Chapter 7: The Unexpected Encounter
It had been two weeks since Ria had ended things with Arun, and she was just beginning to find a rhythm in her life again. The pain hadn't completely disappeared, but she was starting to accept that some things weren't meant to be.
One afternoon, Ria met up with Maya for coffee, the two of them sitting in a cozy corner of their favourite café. They were chatting about everything and nothing, when Ria suddenly froze. There, standing in the doorway, was Arun.
Their eyes met across the room, and for a split second, time seemed to slow down. Arun's face was a mixture of hope and regret, but Ria quickly averted her gaze. She couldn't let him see how much he still affected her.
Maya, who had noticed the tension in the air, raised an eyebrow. "Is that... Arun?"
Ria nodded stiffly, avoiding eye contact. "I don't want to talk to him, Maya. Not now."
But Arun wasn't one to back down easily. He approached their table, his footsteps deliberate. Ria's heart pounded in her chest, but she refused to look up.
"Ria," Arun said, his voice soft but determined. "Can we please talk?"
Ria opened her mouth to refuse, but Maya, ever the peacemaker, spoke up. "Ria, maybe you should hear him out. You never know... Maybe this is the closure you need."
Reluctantly, Ria nodded and gestured for him to sit. Arun took a seat across from her, his expression unreadable.
"I know you're angry with me," he said, his voice filled with remorse. "And you have every right to be. I've made mistakes. I should have been honest with you from the start, and I shouldn't have kept Kiran a secret."
Ria stayed silent, her emotions conflicting. Part of her wanted to yell at him, to accuse him of betraying her. But another part of her—the part that had fallen in love with him—wanted to forgive him. She wasn't sure what to do.
"I've spent the last two weeks thinking about everything," Arun continued. "I know I messed up, and I'm sorry. But I want to make things right, Ria. I want to prove to you that you're the one I want to be with. I've been stupid, but I'm willing to fight for us."
Ria's heart wavered. She had been so sure about ending things with him, but now she wasn't so sure anymore. The love she still felt for him was undeniable, but was it enough to forget everything that had happened?
