Echoes of Hollywood

Chapter 445: Chapter 445: A Bunch of Bastards

A brand-new commercial car, yet to have a license plate, drove through Malibu's city center and slowly approached the villa area where the wealthy gathered by the sea.

Inside the car sat five people. Murphy was driving, Robert Downey Jr. was in the passenger seat, and in the back were James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill. The Stanton faction was all present.

"Are you guys that free?" Robert Downey Jr. ignored Murphy, who was driving, and addressed the back seat. "What are you here for?"

"How could we miss such a good show?" Jonah Hill was the first to speak. "If you didn't let us come, it would be too unkind."

James Franco nodded. "Jonah's usually full of crap, but this time he's right."

Seth Rogen added, "We three might not be much help, but no matter what, we stand together."

The commercial car arrived at a dense cluster of small villas. Murphy gradually slowed down. The streets here were exceptionally wide, surrounded by low villas, offering a very open view. As the car passed a villa with a coconut tree at the entrance, Robert Downey Jr. looked through the window and stared at it for a moment.

"This is it," he said.

James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill also turned to look. It seemed like just another typical affluent residence in Malibu.

According to the information Ross had sent over, the target and the person watching the target would both be there this morning.

The car drove a few hundred meters forward, then Murphy turned around and parked in a spot where they could clearly see the villa's entrance.

As soon as he stopped the car, Jonah Hill spoke up from the back, "This is too far. Move a bit closer."

Murphy glanced back. Jonah Hill pointed to a public phone booth not far ahead. "It's best to park there."

Murphy started the car and drove over.

Seth Rogen didn't understand Jonah Hill's intention. "Why park there?"

"There's a public phone there. It's convenient for us to call the police," Jonah Hill said righteously. "We're law-abiding citizens. How can we sit by and watch a crime happen?"

James Franco gave him the middle finger.

The car parked next to the phone booth, and they patiently waited. Only with enough patience could they see the good show unfold.

After about half an hour, a bright red Ferrari roared past them and stopped in front of the villa they were watching.

"Is that him?" James Franco asked, looking over.

"Yes, that's him!" Robert Downey Jr. also looked over and confirmed, "That's his car."

In the red Ferrari, young Cameron Douglas's face was unnaturally flushed, and his expression was somewhat dazed, but his eyes showed clear hatred as he looked at the villa.

Long ago, he had been the owner of this villa, but after that woman took a liking to it, he had to move out in disgrace...

Now he was back. Cameron Douglas had returned!

He took a small paper packet from his pocket, unwrapped it to reveal tinfoil, and the paper contained some white powder. As usual, he skillfully inhaled it through his nose.

"Ah..."

After a while, Cameron Douglas, frowning and shrunken, let out a moan of pleasure, feeling like an omnipotent god.

As long as he wanted, he could punish anyone; as long as he wanted, he could do anything; as long as he wanted, this world could no longer restrain him...

Not even Michael Douglas!

The inhaled substance gave Cameron Douglas boundless confidence and strength, as well as enough impulsiveness.

He got out of the car and staggered towards the villa's entrance. According to the information his friend had provided, there should be no one at this time; his dear stepmother wouldn't be here for a while.

Cameron Douglas leaned against the locked iron gate, waiting patiently like a hunter for a fox.

"Are you sure she will come?" Jonah Hill was getting impatient. "What if something goes wrong?"

"It shouldn't," Murphy looked at his watch. "There's still some time before 9:30."

Just before 9:30, a red BMW appeared at the far end of their view. It came from the opposite direction and was moving quite fast. As Robert Downey Jr. said, 'She's here,' the car was already close to the villa's entrance.

Jonah Hill immediately perked up. "The show's about to start!"

From their vantage point, they could clearly see the villa entrance. The red BMW was stopped by Cameron Douglas, and Catherine Zeta-Jones got out, seemingly shouting loudly...

Due to the distance, Murphy and the others couldn't hear what Catherine Zeta-Jones and Cameron Douglas were saying.

At the villa entrance, Catherine Zeta-Jones seemed very angry, glaring at Cameron Douglas and shouting, "Who allowed you to come here?"

Cameron Douglas stood with his arms crossed, a cold smile on his face.

"Get out!" Catherine Zeta-Jones had never liked this stepson and even found him repulsive. "I don't want to see you!"

"Whore!" Cameron Douglas's face was unnaturally flushed, and he was extremely agitated. "You British ********"

Catherine Zeta-Jones seemed incredulous at Cameron Douglas's words. "What did you say?"

Cameron Douglas stepped forward and said clearly, "I called you a whore!"

The drugs had significantly lowered his rationality.

Finally understanding what Cameron Douglas had said, Catherine Zeta-Jones was instantly furious. "How dare you insult me?"

"Not only will I insult you," Cameron Douglas walked up to Catherine Zeta-Jones and slapped her face. The crisp sound left a red handprint on her fair cheek.

"I will hit you!" he added fiercely. "I'll return all the abuse you gave me!"

He raised his hand again.

Having lived a pampered life for many years, Catherine Zeta-Jones never expected Cameron Douglas to act this way and was momentarily stunned by the slap.

"Slap!"

The crisp sound echoed at the villa entrance, and a red handprint appeared on the other side of Catherine Zeta-Jones's face.

"You... you..."

Catherine Zeta-Jones finally snapped out of it, but faced with an enraged grown man, her first reaction was not to fight back but to retreat.

Because she saw that Cameron Douglas had pulled out a folding knife from his pocket.

Moreover, she was familiar with the flush on Cameron Douglas's face. Many people in their circle, including herself, had been in that state. It was clearly the look of someone high on drugs and out of control...

In the past, when she was in that state, she would just mess around with men, but what would a man who hated her and was holding a knife do?

Catherine Zeta-Jones had firsthand experience that rationality did not exist in this state.

"Call the police!"

In the commercial car, Murphy casually suggested. Jonah Hill was the first to open the car door. "I'll do it! I'll do it!"

Seeing Jonah Hill get out, Murphy no longer watched the scene. Morally speaking, everyone in the car, including himself, was a bastard without moral bottom lines and deserved to be despised.

But they didn't care. If they had moral scruples, they wouldn't be in Hollywood or be friends.

Murphy himself admitted that aside from Seth Rogen being slightly better, none of the Stanton faction were good people. Sometimes, they were like the characters in the film they had just made: a bunch of inglorious bastards.

Catherine Zeta-Jones had retreated to the red BMW's door, pulling a pepper spray from her bag, but Cameron Douglas's courage wasn't as great as she thought or as he had anticipated.

He never opened the folding knife he held. Cameron Douglas just glared at Catherine Zeta-Jones viciously, "You slut, you bitch..."

Though he had threatened to do something to Catherine Zeta-Jones, when it came to action, even high on drugs, Cameron Douglas's bravado failed him.

Even Catherine Zeta-Jones didn't expect that this seemingly fierce stepson would resort to nothing more than cursing like a woman...

She was momentarily stunned, then remembered to pull out her phone to call the police.

"You Hollywood whore, sleeping with everyone for an Oscar..." Cameron Douglas seemed to want to vent all his resentment for being kicked out of the house when his father married Catherine Zeta-Jones. His mouth never stopped, "Lining up men for an Oscar..."

He didn't care if what he said was true. He was just venting.

Listening to these nasty words, Catherine Zeta-Jones despised him even more. He was ultimately a man without guts.

Then she realized, to her horror, that she had forgotten her phone...

On the other side, Jonah Hill was already in the public phone booth, pressing '911'. When the call connected, he said in a strained voice, "There's a robbery here with a knife!"
