Dying Light: Volatile Virus

Chapter 13: Golden Trial

While leaping between two buildings, you notice a faint but vivid golden trail leading upward, winding across rooftops and walls. This trail is entirely different from the red, blue, or cyan trails he's seen so far. It radiates an aura of warmth and intensity, almost calling to him. His curiosity grows, and he instinctively decides to follow it, his body almost moving on its own.

As you get closer to the source, you begin to hear whispers—not growls or the usual sounds of the infected, but words carried by the wind, spoken in a soothing yet commanding tone. The voice resembles the one he heard from the "Mother" before.

Voice: "Child of the Light, your path has crossed the threshold. Accept the Sun's gift... Embrace your purpose..."

Suddenly, as you follow the trail, you encounter a large golden Volatile, unlike any you have seen before. Its veins glow golden-orange, and its form is slightly bulkier, with elongated claws that shimmer in the sunlight. It stands in the middle of a wide rooftop courtyard, surrounded by faint golden particles swirling in the air.

The Volatile turns to face you, its glowing golden eyes locking onto you. Unlike the others, it doesn't growl—it speaks, its tone calm yet firm, like a guardian testing a new initiate.

Golden Volatile: "You have walked the path. But are you ready to bear the light? Prove your worth, or fall to ash."

Before you can react, the Volatile leaps forward with incredible speed, forcing you into an unexpected fight. This "Golden Sentinel," as it calls itself, seems to test your strength and adaptability in combat.

The fight starts very fiercely. You try to remain on your ground, but as for much you try, the Golden Volatile reaches to make you fall from the roof, but you take it with you.

You both fall, landing on the ground, and quickly, the Golden Volatile rushes once again towards you. You try to counter, but is very fast for you. You are not used to this speed, so your counters are slow, and it's impacts have high effects, but you remain on your place.

After a dodge slipping down, you get your specialized M1911, and start shooting, but the Golden Volatile dodges, moving quickly around, and with a kick, it makes the pistol be thrown away.

You dash back, getting up, and grabbing the pistol, saving it again in it's slot. After a moment for stare each other, the Golden Volatile with incredible speed, jumps at you, and you barely block it's claws grabbing your arms.

The exchanges of impacts is noticeable, but more and more leaves you with more injures, as it's impacts seems to pierce through your vest, while your impacts seems to not leave any visible mark.

You rise both hands together as punches, and punch with strength the ground, making the very near shake slightly, and the Golden Volatile kicks you in the face, sending you to fall down.

As you fall back, the impact shakes your balance, but you quickly roll to the side, avoiding a follow-up strike from the Golden Volatile. It crashes into the ground where you were moments ago, its claws carving deep gashes into the concrete. The force of the attack sends debris flying, and the golden particles in the air shimmer more intensely, as if feeding off the chaos.

You get back on your feet, wiping blood from your mouth, and stare at the Volatile, now standing tall and radiating an aura of dominance. Its golden eyes narrow as it assesses you.

Golden Volatile: "You are resilient, but the light demands more. Show me your true strength, Draemir."

The sound of your new name spoken by this creature ignites something inside you—a surge of power mixed with frustration. The flame in your chest burns hotter, and your claws seem to elongate slightly. The whispers in the air grow louder, urging you to fight.

You lunge forward, this time faster than before, your instincts sharpening as you adapt to its speed. You swing with precision, your claws colliding with its arms in a clash that sends sparks flying. The Golden Volatile counters, slashing at your side, but this time you twist away, feeling your movements becoming more fluid, more in tune with the fight.

The battle becomes a blur of strikes and dodges, both of you moving with inhuman agility. You notice its patterns, the way it telegraphs its leaps and swings, and start using your environment to your advantage. You leap onto a nearby car, then vault over it, forcing the Golden Volatile to adjust its angle of attack. When it lands, you grab a broken metal pipe from the ground and swing it with all your might, connecting with its side.

The Golden Volatile stumbles back, growling—not in anger, but in what sounds like approval.

Golden Volatile: "Good... You are learning."

It charges again, but this time, you anticipate its movements. You duck low, sweeping its legs with a powerful kick that sends it crashing to the ground. Before it can recover, you leap onto its chest, pinning it down with your weight. Your claws dig into its shoulders, holding it in place.

The Golden Volatile snarls, its glowing veins pulsing brighter as it tries to throw you off. But you press down harder, leaning close enough to meet its glowing eyes.

-"What do you want from me?!" you growl, your voice deeper and more distorted than before. "Why are you testing me?"

The Golden Volatile stops struggling for a moment, its expression softening.

Golden Volatile: "To awaken the light within you. The Sun has chosen you, but you must prove you are worthy to ascend. This is only the beginning, Draemir. Embrace the gift... or be consumed by it."

With a sudden burst of strength, it throws you off and rises to its feet. But instead of attacking, it steps back, its aura dimming slightly. It nods, as if acknowledging your progress.

Golden Volatile: "You are not ready... but you are close. Seek the Mother. She will guide your path."

Before you can respond, the Golden Volatile leaps onto a nearby building with incredible speed, disappearing into the golden trail that lingers in the air. The whispers fade, leaving you alone in the aftermath of the battle.

You stand there, catching your breath, your body aching from the fight. The flame in your chest still burns, but it feels steadier now, less chaotic. You look at your hands, your claws glowing faintly in the sunlight, and realize you've changed again—stronger, faster, more attuned to the infection.

But the Golden Volatile's words echo in your mind. "Seek the Mother. She will guide your path."

With renewed determination, you leap onto the nearest rooftop and continue your journey through Old Town, the golden trail still faintly visible in the distance.
