DxD: Lost in Time

Chapter 27: Haywire

Hisashi...

'Whose there?'

"Hisashi... I want you to run from this place," a blonde man with green eyes said with blood flowing out of his lips. He spit out a mouthful of blood before continuing, "Find your mother... and keep her safe, Argh!" A sword was removed from his chest, and his eyes lost light.

"Dad!" I watched as his body fell like a puppet with its strings cut. I gazed up at my father's killer, who had bat wings behind his back.

"You heard him, didn't you, kid?" He gazed at me with sick glee as he smiled like a lunatic.

Run!

"FUCK YOU!" I woke up abruptly in the middle of the night. I looked around the dark room, with the moon being the source of light. I brought my hand to my face and noticed that they were illuminated by red light. I gazed at the mirror, seeing my eyes glowing a faint hue.

My powers were going haywire again...

---

I walked through the otherwise silent halls, the sound of my footsteps echoing in the stillness. It was far too early in the morning, and the atmosphere felt unusually heavy, like something was waiting to happen. I made my way towards Serafall's room.

Halfway there, the person I was looking for had already appeared, clad in her battle attire and looking ready to leave.

"Coming here to observe your progress was already a big risk. This means you won't see your friends for a while," she said, her voice calm but weighted. Her words hit me like a punch to the gut, and hesitation crept in. But I steeled my resolve, determined to answer.

"If they can live in peace without fearing for their lives every day... then I have no choice but to get ready for war."

"Well said." She nodded approvingly. "I brought a little company so you wouldn't be too lonely."

A flash of green light and, just like that, my mom was standing in front of me.

I clenched my fists, a feeling deep inside urging me to change her mind, but I knew she was too stubborn.

"Don't die on me, okay?"

"I'll be here for the longest time, Hisashi," she replied with a smile. "Especially since I had a drastic increase in lifespan."

Her words were meant to reassure me, but I couldn't shake the feeling of dread.

Serafall, sensing the tension, chimed in, trying to lighten the mood. "We'll look out for her. Besides, she's an Early Ultimate-class with unorthodox abilities. Cut her some slack."

I rolled my eyes at Serafall, knowing she meant well but still worried. "I know she's strong, but I can't help but worry."

"Just let me get a few things, and we'll be on our way," I said, turning to gather my things.

Serafall nodded and settled onto a cushion, her eyes flicking to Natsumi. The two of them started chatting, their voices becoming soft and filled with laughter as they discussed whatever it was that girls discussed.

---

Serafall and Natsumi continued talking, laughter ringing through the room at intervals. The two had such a natural, effortless rapport, and it was clear they were completely at ease with one another. They weren't concerned about the differences between them.

So what if Natsumi was human? What if Serafall was a devil? To them, it didn't matter. They were friends.

Eventually, Lady Sitri arrived, and the entire atmosphere shifted. Her presence made the conversation take an entirely different turn. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and a glint passed through them—a silent testament to the mischief that was about to unfold.

Serafall suddenly had a bad premonition.

"So, when are you going to get married, Serafall?" Lady Sitri asked casually, her black hair cascading around her shoulders as she took her seat.

Serafall nearly choked on the biscuit she had just put in her mouth. After gulping down an entire cup of tea to clear her throat, she turned to her mother with a slight pout on her delicate face. "You know I'm not interested in anyone right now. Besides, we're in the middle of a war."

Her mother took a sip of her tea, completely unfazed. "But you see Hisashi in a different light, don't you?" A knowing smile spread across her face.

Serafall's eyes widened in surprise. "What nonsense are you talking about? I have no such interest in a child. I'm not a pedophile!" She blushed deeply, horrified at the thought. How could she, a woman old enough to be his grandmother, think of him as a potential partner?

"Well, maybe you haven't noticed, but Hisashi pays a lot of attention to you," Natsumi said, her chin resting thoughtfully in her hand.

Serafall's ears perked up at the remark. In a flash, she grabbed Natsumi by the shoulders, shaking her urgently. "Really?! Does he like me?!" Her eyes sparkled with hope, and her voice was filled with excitement. "I always thought he saw me as an old hag, not as a woman!"

At that moment, Natsumi realized she may have said more than she intended. She regretted it almost immediately as Serafall shook her again, making her dizzy.

Lady Sitri merely gazed at the scene with a raised eyebrow and a wicked smile plastered on her face. Serafall's face lit up like a Christmas tree—so red it could rival Sirzech's hair in intensity.

"Still think you aren't a pedophile?" Lady Sitri asked calmly, but Serafall's reaction was so exaggerated that she recoiled, covering her ears with both hands.

"Shut up!" Serafall snapped, her face flushed with embarrassment. In her outburst, she failed to notice a figure approaching from behind.

"Hey. How much did I miss?"

"What are you doing here?!" Serafall exclaimed, startled by the sudden interruption.

---

In the frozen land, a woman with black hair and a black cloak covering her features stood alone. Her fair skin and melancholic blue eyes blended with the wintry surroundings. She took shelter inside a cave, watching as shards of ice fell relentlessly from the heavens.

"Another hailstorm. This one seems stronger than before," she muttered, her gaze lingering on the red moon hanging ominously in the sky.

"Seems like it," came a warped voice from behind her.

Yuzūi sighed in exasperation, her frustration apparent. Perhaps they should have put more effort into saving that man, but it was too late for that now. The best they could do was enhance his defenses and hope for his survival.

"We failed our purpose," the woman continued, her voice tinged with bitterness. "The only reason we exist right now is because of Hisashi's need for survival and his ability to take risks. No one could have wanted to be a Vizard!"

Yuzūi gave her a look of mock annoyance. "And who was created solely to be a literal leash?"

The woman straightened up with a smile, puffing her modest chest out. "I prefer to think of myself as a mediator who solved major concerns."

The hollow huffed in irritation. "If only I could rip that smug expression off your face."

"But you can't, you big softie."

"I don't have a heart to begin with!" the hollow retorted, his voice dripping with frustration.
