Chapter 19: Chapter [19]
Kuoh Academy
The final class of the day finally ended, and the sound of the bell echoed through the school corridors, signaling the end of school activities. The students began to pack their backpacks and get up from their chairs, eager to enjoy the rest of the day.
Kaito and Hiro met near the classroom door, ready to leave. "So, Kaito, are you ready for the double date tomorrow?" Hiro asked, still enthusiastic about the idea.
"Yes, I'm ready. It will be interesting, for sure."
Kaito and Hiro walked together to the school gate, still discussing the details of the double date for the next day. The afternoon sun shone softly, creating a pleasant atmosphere as they crossed the courtyard.
As they approached the gate, where several students were gathered in small groups, chatting and laughing, Kaito noticed Nanami standing, clearly waiting for someone. Upon seeing Kaito and Hiro, she began to walk toward them, with a cold smile on her face.
"Kaito, can I talk to you for a moment?" Nanami said, completely ignoring Hiro's presence.
Hiro looked at Kaito, uncertain about what to do. Kaito nodded slightly, indicating that he would talk to Nanami. "It's okay, Hiro. I'll meet you in a minute."
Hiro nodded and gave Kaito a friendly pat on the shoulder. "Alright, Kaito. See you tomorrow." He then walked away in the opposite direction, leaving Kaito with Nanami.
Nanami waited until Hiro was out of sight before getting closer to Kaito. She crossed her arms, maintaining the cold smile on her face. "So, Kaito, you finally decided to give me attention?"
Kaito looked at her, remaining calm. "What do you want, Nanami?"
Nanami narrowed her eyes, still smiling. "I just wanted to know if you've reconsidered my offer from yesterday. We could go out after school today if you'd like."
Kaito looked at Nanami, trying to understand her intentions. His thoughts were confused, a whirlwind of emotions and questions. Why did Nanami, who had rejected him so cruelly and sent people to beat him up, still want to go out with him? Was this all just a game of wounded ego?
He remembered all the times he had tried to get close to Nanami, only to be spurned or ignored. She always seemed out of reach, as if she was playing with his feelings. And now, here she was, apparently interested in spending time with him. The situation didn't make sense.
"She must be messing with me," Kaito thought. "Or maybe it's just an attempt to regain control after being rejected. Is she so obsessed with having everyone at her feet that she can't stand the idea of someone saying 'no' to her?"
Kaito was about to give his response to Nanami, feeling the anger boiling inside him when he suddenly felt a pair of soft and firm arms around his body. The sensation of Akeno's breasts pressing against his back was instantly recognizable. She hugged him from behind, her presence strong and comforting.
"Hi, Kaito," Akeno said in her melodious voice, a playful smile on her lips. "Is everything okay here? It looks like something is going on."
Nanami was left speechless, incredulous to see the second most popular girl in the school, Akeno Himejima, hugging Kaito. Her eyes widened in surprise and anger, unable to believe what she was seeing.
Around them, the students began to whisper among themselves, murmurs of envy and hatred directed at Kaito filling the air. "How did he manage that?", "It's not possible!", "Why is Akeno hugging him?" were some of the questions echoing in the courtyard.
Kaito, still feeling the soft pressure of Akeno's breasts on his back, tried to keep his composure. "Yes, Akeno. Everything's fine. We were just discussing a few things."
Akeno looked at Nanami, who was still in shock, and then turned her attention back to Kaito, giving him a reassuring squeeze. "If you need anything, Kaito, I'm here."
Kaito nodded, feeling grateful for Akeno's intervention. "Thank you, Akeno. I think we've resolved everything here."
Akeno smiled again, her gentle gaze softening the tension in the air. "Great. Let's go then. We have some things to discuss about the club."
As Akeno gently pulled Kaito away from Nanami, the students' murmurs continued, growing more intense. Some looked on with envy, others with disbelief, but Kaito was more concerned with why Akeno had intervened that way.
When they reached a quieter area, Kaito turned to Akeno, still a bit confused. "Akeno, why did you do that?"
Akeno smiled mischievously. "Nanami made a point of talking about some idiot she was stringing along. When I saw her there, I couldn't resist teasing her a bit."
Kaito blushed intensely, his face almost as red as Rias's hair. "I-I... thanks, Akeno. But, actually, I was planning to mess with Nanami's mind so she wouldn't bother me or Hiro, my friend, anymore."
Akeno shook her head, her smile gentle but firm. "Leave that to me, Kaito. I'll take care of her. Don't worry."
Kaito looked at Akeno, still curious. "Why are you being so kind to me, Akeno?"
Akeno paused for a moment, her gaze softening. "One day you'll know, Kaito, but not today."
As they walked, Akeno noticed they had reached the street leading to the shrine. She stopped and turned to Kaito, smiling gently. "I'll say goodbye here. Take care, Kaito."
Kaito watched as Akeno walked away, her graceful figure disappearing in the distance. He felt a mix of gratitude and curiosity, still trying to understand the reason behind Akeno's kindness.
After a moment, he sighed and began to walk towards his own home, reflecting on the day's events and preparing for what the future held. His thoughts wandered to the double date he would have the next day. He knew he couldn't let it be a failure like the last time, but he also felt a slight anxiety about how everything would unfold.
As he walked, Kaito started to notice that something was off. The streets, usually bustling at that hour of the day, were strangely deserted. He frowned, feeling a sudden tension in the air. The wind blowing against his face seemed to carry a sense of warning, as if trying to alert him to something.
Kaito stopped for a moment, looking around, trying to understand what was happening. It was then that he saw him. A man in a black trench coat and hat, with imposing black wings, appeared in front of him, emerging from the shadows of a nearby alley. The air around the man seemed to vibrate with a threatening energy.
