Chapter 23: Chapter 23 • Power, Envy and Anticipation: A Day in the Life of Light
It was already 11 p.m. when they arrived at the abandoned church, the silence of the night enveloping them like a cloak.
It's worth noting that, when they went to the hotel, it wasn't even five in the afternoon.
Kalawarner and Mittelt, in particular, were giving subtly suggestive glances.
However, Light was far from feeling any trace of shyness; his subordinates' assumption about his intimate moments with Raynare was nothing more than a triviality.
Raynare, for her part, didn't show any emotion that might suggest shame; her actions with Light were a closed chapter, away from the eyes of others.
Both she and Light didn't even blink under Mittelt's smug gaze and Kalawarner's analytical stare.
"Asia stayed in her apartment?" Light asked rhetorically.
"Yes, she's probably asleep right now." Mittelt said in his naturally loud and cheerful voice.
Light nodded. Then he turned to Raynare.
"You left tonight, right?" Light asked.
"Yes." Raynare replied.
The truth was that she didn't want to go, she longed to spend more time with Light, but she knew she couldn't just be selfish now, especially if they had been summoned on Azazel and Shemhazai's orders.
━━━━━━━━
At home, Light looked at the Attributes Panel.
Indeed, the close connection with Raynare had not only strengthened his bond, but also, surprisingly, expanded his attributes...
Not only that, he had a small but still significant increase with his devil fruit, and even his Haki went up a little.
Leaving that aside for the moment, Light picked up the Death Note.
After putting up a barrier he had learned from Raynare, he went over to the table and picked up a pen.
Opening the Death Note on the table, his eyes focused.
"Write! Write! Write!"
Various names and causes of death were written down.
The targets were crooks who had gotten away with obstructing evidence, buying off judges, etc.
There were various reasons, and most of them were using crooked means to get out of jail.
After registering the last name, Light stretched, the tension draining from his shoulders. Closing the Death Note, he contemplated the near future: 'In just two days, Lala Satalin Deviluke will arrive on Earth...'
To be sure, he searched his mind for Yuki Rito's script and then confirmed it.
As for her arrival? Of course he was going to take advantage of it.
It was an opportunity not to be missed, and Light was determined not to let it slip away.
Especially since he had been attracted to her when he saw her in Yuki Rito's script, as well as her striking appearance and childlike personality. Lala possessed a remarkable intellect, evidenced by her ability to create extraordinary inventions etc.
Even without the fact that she was the First Princess of Planet Deviluke, and her father was the King of Planet Deviluke and Emperor of the Milky Way, he would still have been interested in her.

As dawn broke, the persistent buzz of the system's notifications cut through the silence, rousing Light from his sleep.
There were four in all.
All of them were about him earning Fate points.
'Interesting,' thought Light, 'four of these evildoers had a Fortune of over 50...'
Opening the Attributes Panel, he saw an increase of just over a thousand Fate points.
'There really are a lot of wicked people with a lot of luck,' Light muttered coldly in his mind.
Of the fifty, it was remarkable that four exceeded the threshold of fifty Fortune points.
It was a fairly high probability, if this was how he always used the Death Note.
As for the future use of the Death Note, Light knew it was premature to contemplate; the right time would reveal the right opportunity.
A little sleepily, he got up.
After a quick visit to the bathroom for his morning chores, Light dressed in his school uniform, preparing for the day ahead.
'Today's Wednesday, there's PE...'
Going to his locker, he grabbed his gym uniform.
━━━━━━━━
A frisson went through the students at Kuoh Academy as they witnessed Light's arrival, their expressions varying dramatically as they realized his presence.
Although Light is known for his high grades and even his good looks, he has started to become the target of stares from both boys and girls because of his involvement with Rias Gremory, even some who have discovered that he seems to be close to the President of the Student Council, Sona Sitri.
Most of it was speculation, but school gossip is like a forest fire; once it starts it's hard to put out and it spreads at breakneck speed.
However, Light laughed at their reactions. It was exactly how he imagined today would be. But, of course, only an idiot would dare come forward and mess with him at this moment.
After all, he wasn't a protagonist destined to be ridiculed by any Tom, Dick or Harry, no matter where he went.
Light himself was tall, with a strong physique and broad shoulders. Even his results in sports were exemplary.
Although many were jealous and envious of him now, none dared to provoke him.
"Issei-san, you lucky bastard!"
Meanwhile, everyone's anger and jealousy was directed at Issei, and he was the target of strong slaps on the back.
As for the reason? Well, he's become the newest member of the Occult Research Club, need we say more?
And, even though he's no longer Heaven's Favored Son, perhaps his upbringing will naturally attract haters who will want to pick on him for even the basest of reasons.
"You bastards! You're going too far!" Issei shouted.
Although he was no longer human, he still felt pain. After the third slap on the back; his back had already started to sting even more than the day after he'd been on the beach without a T-shirt or sunscreen.
"Hahaha! Who told you to be so damn lucky?"
The boys around him didn't mind Issei's anger; in fact, they thought that the anger directed at Issei was justified and that they had the right to at least make him feel a little pain for being a lucky bastard!
And speaking of Heaven's Favored Son, a Chosen by Fortune was approaching...
Yuto Amakawa, along with Rinko and Himari.
Light looked in their direction out of the corner of his eye as he sensed their presence with his Haki.
After giving a discreet smile, he continued walking.
'It's not long until it's your turn too~'
Light walked with nonchalant steps, whistling a tune that evoked the iconic soundtrack of 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly', the music echoing down the corridor.
"Pfft-hahaha!"
Before he reached the classroom, Utaha, who had seen him in the corridor whistling with his hands in his pockets, asked, laughing heartily.
"Light, did you happen to come across any bluebirds today?"
Her reaction took some students by surprise, after all, it was unusual for her to show such a reaction in public.
After all, her usual disinterested expression gives the impression that she is an unapproachable person.
Light raised an eyebrow at her with a smug expression: "Who knows? Maybe I've found something even rarer."
"..." Utaha stopped laughing.
