Chapter 131 Never meet your heroes Part 1
Uriel's words faded in the middle of lobby of the Mapple corporation headquarters, but not before drawing the attention of every single person present at the scene. Jon hunter was obviously embarrassed by the situation and he waved his hands signalling Uriel to calm down.
"Yes, yes, I'm 'that' Jon Hunter, but there's no need to make a fuss alright?" Jon said.
"But- but you are..." Uriel was utterly starstruck and could barely speak.
"See? I told you I was a big deal." Jon hunter shrugged at Seiren who didn't understand why Uriel reacted so heavily.
She knew Jon was one of the few holy rank hunters and that he possessed an unusually strong trait that earned him the nickname of 'Hunter'. He was known as one of the champions of humanity and a hero to anyone who ever heard about him but he wasn't, by any means, famous.
In fact, the Mapple corporation had kept his existence a secret from the general population like they did with most of their strongest hunters.
Contrary to the government who would publicize the achievements of their hunters to boost their reputation and give a sense of security to citizens, corporations preferred to keep every bit of information about their hunters close to the vest.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." She said disinterestedly as she was ushering Uriel through the exit door, but the young archaeology student turned back and struggled to go back inside.
"Please, Profesor Jon, you must give me your autograph, I'm your biggest fan." Uriel begged.
"Wait, are you for real?" Seiren asked Uriel with a dumbfounded expression on her face.
"Yes, Professor Jon is the most famous archaeologist in the world. He's one of the most prolific scholars in the field and has many achievements. He also found so many different archaeological sites before the Mapping project existed." Uriel spoke far too fast and too loud, but he was too excited to keep a hold of himself.
He never thought he would ever meet face to face with the person he admired the most in the world. Being raised by an abusive uncle, Jon hunter was the closest thing Uriel had to a fatherly figure and he was also one of the reasons why he decided to become an archaeologist.
"I see you're well informed. Say, do you fancy a drink?" Hunter asked.
Uriel was in disbelief at the invite and, of course, took the offer on the spot.
Jon led Uriel towards the cafeteria and Seiren tagged along. It wasn't that she wanted to take part in their conversation, but Uriel was technically under her custody because he hadn't left the building.
The place was like the cafeteria on the zeppelin, only much larger and filled with people in business suits coming and going. It was loud and messy, but since both Jon was high on the Mapple corp. echelons he was able to take them to the VIP area.
Uriel took a seat in front of him and started asking Jon as many questions as he could about his favorite books. Jon answered to the best of his ability to the rapid fire questions while the waiter stood idly by the side.
"Chill mate, at least let me order first. When they called me for an interrogatory I didn't think I would be the one being questioned." Jon laughed and then proceeded to ask for coffee.
"You don't drink tea?" Uriel asked confounded.
"Nah, I don't like the taste. I'll take a good cup of coffee over tea any day." He replied.
Uriel couldn't help but to feel a bit disappointed, even though he never met Jon he knew he was from England and always assumed he liked tea. It was for that reason that he always chose tea over coffee and went as far as trying to learn about high quality tea, even though he could barely even afford the instant kind.
But that disappointment wouldn't be the last, because as soon as their drinks arrived, the first thing Jon Hunter did was to take a flask from his jacket and spike his coffee. He offered the flask to Uriel with a mischievous wink, but he declined.
Uriel had a distaste for alcohol and didn't really like people who drank in the middle of the day. Something like that was to be expected as his uncle was usually drunk whenever he beat him, though he was always drunk.
"So, how would you like an autograph?" Jon asked after noticing Uriel's distraught expression.
"Yes, please!" Uriel felt beyond honored just by being invited to have a drink with him and an autograph would be the cherry on top.
The only problem was that he didn't have any books with him at the moment. In fact, one of the few books Uriel owned, and the only one written by Jon Hunter, was lost during his first incursion. He brandished it as a weapon to kill a horned rabbit which resulted in him acquiring a trait at the expense of his precious book.
"You know it doesn't have to be one of my books. I can sign whatever you want." Jon said as if reading Uriel's mind.
"Uhm, sure." Uriel smiled at the man in front of him. The first thing that came to his mind was to take the lewd magazine from his trait and have Jon sign it, but that would leave a bad impression and that was something he wanted to avoid at all costs.
What Uriel wanted more than anything was to be taken seriously by Jon and, if possible, being acknowledged by him as a fellow archaeologist. He wanted to share his theory about the proto civilization, his findings on Chichén Itzá, everything.
Even if Jon turned out to be different from the old and mature scholar and, instead, was a charming and youthful person. All he could think of was to leave a good impression on Jon and that led him to commit a grave mistake that he would deeply regret for a long time.
"Could you please sign this?" Uriel said as he handed him Davy Crockett's diary.
