Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Method to Gather the Dragon Balls
"Hurry up!" The young hunter started running, but seeing Taro still standing there, he anxiously tried to pull him along.
"No rush." Taro raised his hand to stop him. The massive creature had already positioned itself right in front of him, casting a shadow over him. Taro looked up at the dinosaur with his usual calm expression in his eyes.
Roar!!
The dinosaur's eyes were bloodshot, filled with both aggression and a hint of pain. It roared at Taro and the young hunter with all its might, a stench-filled gust of wind rushing toward them. The young hunter coughed, his face turning pale.
The three colorful birds on Taro's shoulders, however, paid no mind to the dinosaur's roar. They didn't flinch at all, chattering softly amongst themselves, occasionally pecking at each other's feathers. They even seemed curious, attempting to fly towards the dinosaur, but Taro raised his hand to stop them.
These birds were descendants of the colorful bird that had flown to him from an unknown place over thirty years ago. They were highly intelligent, even understanding simple words from Taro. When he raised his hand, they obediently perched on his shoulder.
Inside the tightly closed gates of the village, someone peered through a crack in the door to look outside.
"Are they out of their minds?! Why aren't they running?"
"Has that person gone crazy?"
"I'd be scared too. But can you outrun this thing?"
The elder chief remained silent, his face ashen. He couldn't understand why such an agitated dinosaur had suddenly appeared and blocked the village gate. Today... Nombi's chances weren't looking good.
"Hey, why did the dinosaur stop roaring?" Someone peered through the door crack, noticing that the dinosaur's agitated movements had ceased, and even its roars had disappeared. This was strange.
At that moment, the three colorful birds on Taro's shoulders suddenly went silent. They turned their little heads, looking uneasy.
Behind them, the young hunter, Nombi, stared wide-eyed in disbelief at the scene unfolding before him.
Taro extended one hand and placed it toward the dinosaur. For some reason, the creature, which had previously been so agitated, had suddenly quieted down. Upon seeing Taro's hand, it trembled in fear, as though it had encountered something terrifying. Despite its fear, it stood completely still, too afraid to move.
Taro gently stroked the dinosaur's head, which had leaned toward him, and whispered.
"It seems like you don't mean any harm, so I won't kill you today." The dinosaur trembled softly under his touch, its eyes filled with a pleading expression.
At that moment, one of the birds on Taro's shoulder hopped along his arm and jumped onto the dinosaur's head. The creature's life was in Taro's hands, and it stood frozen, overwhelmed by Taro's imposing presence.
The little bird turned its head left and right, observing Taro and then glancing at the dinosaur beneath his paw. It then moved again, flapping its wings and leaping downward, hovering right in front of the dinosaur's slightly open, gaping mouth.
The bird gently pecked at the dinosaur's mouth a few times, chirping in a way that seemed to say: "Hurry up and open the door, I want to go in!"
The dinosaur stared at the little bird with wide, innocent eyes. Taro looked at the bird with some surprise, but didn't say anything, simply patting the dinosaur's head.
The dinosaur obediently opened its mouth, revealing two rows of sharp, uneven teeth. The little bird flapped its wings, hopped into the dinosaur's large mouth, turned its head, and soon leapt even further inside...
"What's that bird doing? Is it crazy?" - Nombi, who had unknowingly caught up, muttered. After all, the dinosaur didn't seem to be a threat anymore... He looked at the large dinosaur, which now appeared to be in a pitiful state under Taro's hand, and it completely overturned his perception.
Since when did dinosaurs become so docile?
Taro continued to observe quietly. He knew these birds were intelligent, and it was impossible for them to act without reason. Suddenly, the dinosaur's head under his palm twitched, and it let out a low, pained growl. If Taro hadn't been holding it down with one hand, it might have become agitated again and started running wild.
Roar...
It growled softly, and within its wide-open mouth, there was the sound of clack, clack, clack, like something tapping on its teeth. Soon, the sound stopped, and a colorful bird hopped out of the dinosaur's mouth. It flapped its wings a couple of times and flew up, circling around Taro, causing the other two birds on his shoulders to take flight as well, joining in the playful chase.
The three birds were fighting over something.
Taro slowly widened his eyes, his gaze fixed firmly on the bird that had flown out of the dinosaur's mouth... particularly on its claws.
A small orange-yellow sphere was tightly grasped in the bird's claws.
A six-star Dragon ball.
The other two birds chased after the six-star ball, playing, chasing one another, and pecking at each other.
For a long time, even the first colorful bird that followed Taro around had the habit of playing with the four-star Dragon ball on Taro's person, often pecking at it for no reason.
Taro had always observed this but never paid it much mind.
What was so special about birds playing with spheres?
"Uncle, what's going on?" - Nombi asked, noticing Taro standing there, seemingly in a daze, and hadn't even noticed that the dinosaur had moved away from his hand. However, the dinosaur, despite stepping away from Taro's palm, appeared relieved, showing no signs of being about to rampage again.
Taro turned his gaze to the dinosaur.
The dinosaur flinched and quickly returned its head to rest beneath Taro's palm.
"... Looks like you just got stuck with that sphere and were looking for help from a human, huh? You can go now." Taro finally snapped out of his trance, gently shaking his head as he patted the dinosaur's large head.
Some animals in the Dragon Ball world were quite intelligent. Like the dinosaur that Son Gohan once encountered in the original story, it had a certain level of reasoning and intelligence, even evolving into humanoid creatures in some cases.
The dinosaur, seemingly granted a pardon, hurriedly ran off with loud thumps.
Taro waved his hand at the three birds circling around him. They immediately flew back to his shoulders, and he took the six-star ball from the bird's claws.
He casually wiped it with the corner of his clothes and carefully examined the six-star ball in his hand.
It was truly beautiful.
"What kind of sphere is this?" Nombi, having seen the bird pull the sphere out of the dinosaur's mouth, was curious.
Taro didn't answer him. Instead, he pulled another similar sphere out of his clothing pocket.
"Huh, two of the same?" Nombi was even more surprised, not expecting that the dinosaur would have the same kind of sphere as this mysterious uncle.
Taro tossed the four-star Dragon ball into the air, and in the blink of an eye, it was gone, its destination unknown.
Nombi was even more puzzled by what this strange uncle was doing...
Taro stroked the colorful feathers of the bird on his shoulder and said.
"Go, find it." He patted the three birds, who immediately spread their wings and took off, flying in the direction where Taro had thrown the four-star Dragon ball, competing with each other as if they were racing.
At this moment, the gates of the village creaked open.
"What about the dinosaur?" Someone cautiously stepped out, holding a long spear with an iron tip.
Nombi only then realized—had that dinosaur really just walked away? He had thought that he was going to die today!
"It's gone! It's fine now! Everyone, come out!" He said happily.
Immediately, a crowd of people emerged from the village, looking around. Indeed, they could no longer see the dinosaur. All that remained were the large footprints on the ground, proof that a terrifying crisis had passed by just moments ago.
Taro put the six-star ball into his coat pocket. Without even glancing at the hunters, he turned to Nombi and said.
"Since the situation is resolved, young man, I will take my leave."
Without waiting for any response, Taro turned and walked away.
Within a few breaths, he had already walked nearly a hundred meters. The hunters behind him stood dumbfounded, exchanging glances. Someone asked in confusion.
"Nombi, what exactly happened outside? How did the dinosaur suddenly calm down? Why did it just leave? Do you think it will come back?"
Nombi seemed not to hear, muttering to himself.
"Incredible... truly incredible..." He recalled the scene he had witnessed at the Martial Immortal School and made up his mind. No matter what, he would make sure his own children went there to study martial arts!
---
Flapping...
Taro walked along the path as three colorful birds flew down from the sky, landing on his shoulders. Taro casually took the four-star Dragon ball from one of the bird's claws, holding it in his palm and examining it.
"Looks like there's hope for gathering all the Dragon Balls now..."
What Taro didn't know was that in the original history, someone had once used these special birds to gather all seven Dragon Balls, made a wish, and became the ruler of Earth, the only monarch.
