Oscar was unwilling, and Tianlin glanced at the others quickly dismissing them from his thoughts. He had no interest in recruiting the remaining people.
Tang San? Useless. His heart belonged solely to the Tang Sect. Even if he joined the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan now it would only be a matter of time before he left to establish his own sect.
Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing? Impossible and they hailed from the Xingluo Empire which was in direct opposition to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan due to the latter's long-standing support for the Tiandou Empire. But Tianlin having read the original novel knew that the Tiandou royal family wasn't exactly trustworthy either.
The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan had been loyal to the Tiandou Empire for many years but what was their reward? In the original story Emperor Xue Ye was poisoned by Qian Renxue and left in a coma an in a desperate attempt to stabilize the situation Ning Fengzhi used a method to stimulate Xue Ye's life potential temporarily reviving him. However this drastically shortened the emperor's lifespan. When Xue Beng took the throne he stripped Ning Fengzhi of his position as National Master and handed it to Yu Xiaogang Worse yet Xue Beng fully supported Tang San's Tang Sect leaving the already weakened Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan to fend for itself.
If it weren't for Ning Rongrong's efforts the clan might have fallen entirely.
Tianlin's resolve hardened. His clan must grow strong enough to stand on its own that are independent of any external power. Tiandou or Xingluo — it didn't matter. He wouldn't go out of his way to provoke them but neither would he become their pawn.
Anyone who dared threaten the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan would be eliminated without mercy.
The single-player competition ended, and the doubles round began. First up were Tang San and Xiao Wu. Their coordination was flawless and making them nearly unbeatable at their level.
Their match ended in an easy victory but not without a hiccup. Their opponents, known as the Iron Blood Combination wielded two iron hammers. During the fight Tang San let his guard down and took a hit sustaining a minor injury.
Seeing him hurt Xiao Wu's protective instincts kicked in and awakening the soul beast's inherent savagery within her. She fired a silent sleeve arrow at their opponents in a moment of rage. Had Tang San not acted quickly to deflect the arrow with a hidden weapon the Iron Blood Combination would have left the arena in body bags.
After the match Xiao Wu supported Tang San as they exited. Tianlin approached them with a mischievous grin "Congratulations, Brother Tang, on your victory. I originally wanted to invite you to join my clan, but now I see it's impossible."
"Hmph! You didn't even ask us to join. How do you know we'd refuse?" Xiao Wu pouted and hands on her hips. She felt slighted by Tianlin's apparent disregard.
Tianlin chuckled unfazed "Because Brother Tang already has a sect, doesn't he? One that isn't known on the Douluo Continent." He glanced at Tang San knowingly "The silent sleeve arrow you used, your footwork during the match — they're dead giveaways. It must be *that* sect."
Tang San's eyes widened in shock, while Flanders looked equally confused. The old mentor assumed Tianlin was referring to the Haotian Clan. After all, it was a powerful sect that had long retreated from public view. But the Haotian Clan didn't specialize in hidden weapons, so how could Tianlin know?
Tang San however, saw things differently. His heart skipped a beat. Tianlin's words hinted at a deeper understanding — one that stretched beyond this world. Did this boy know about the Tang Sect?
Before he could ask a loud announcement rang out across the arena.
"Gold Spirit Jingtian and Iron Spirit pagoda, please proceed to Arena Four for your battle!"
Jingtian was the alias Tianlin used in the arena, a nod to the legendary swordsman from a game he loved. Ning Rongrong's alias pagoda, represented her Seven Treasures Glazed Pagoda spirit. Both donned masks as they made their way to the stage.
It was a precaution Ning Fengzhi had drilled into them "Hide your identity, or risk being targeted."
As they passed by Tang San, Tianlin gently patted his shoulder "Brother Tang, we'll talk later. If you have the Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus name your price. I'll pay anything for it."
Buddha's Wrath Tang Lotus!
Tang San's mind whirled. There was no longer any doubt. Tianlin knew the Tang Sect. Perhaps… he came from the same place as Tang San.
Meanwhile, Tianlin and Ning Rongrong stepped onto the stage prompting gasps from the audience. Two kids? One of them already a Gold Spirit? The crowd buzzed with disbelief.
Their opponents Qian Lin and Li Zong however weren't pushovers.
"Qian Lin, martial soul Golden Shield, Level 46 Defensive Battle Soul Master!"
"Li Zong, martial soul Spear, Level 45 Strong Attack Battle Soul Master!"
Both men were around thirty — respectable levels for their age though far from extraordinary. Compared to Tianlin and Ning Rongrong however, they seemed significantly more seasoned.
Their spirit rings glowed as they introduced themselves. Qian Lin's rings followed the ideal configuration of two yellow and two purple. Li Zong's rings however, weren't as impressive; his first ring was white. Still, it was clear Qian Lin was the duo's core.
Tianlin and Ning Rongrong stepped forward to introduce themselves as well.
"Jingtian, martial soul Sword, Level 45 Strong Attack Battle Soul Master."
"Liuli, martial soul Seven Treasure Glazed Pagoda, Level 29 Auxiliary Spirit Master."
Ning Rongrong released her Seven Treasures Glazed Pagoda, the iconic tower shining with two yellow rings. Concealing the pagoda would have been pointless, so she only hid her name and appearance.
Tianlin's martial spirit took the form of a simple ancient sword and devoid of any striking features. Dai Mubai observing from the stands frowned.
"Why does his martial spirit look different from this morning? Is he a twin spirit user? And why hasn't he released his spirit rings? That's too arrogant."
Tang San activated his Purple Demon Eyes and his gaze sharpening. "No, Boss Dai, that's the same martial spirit he used this morning. He's just concealing its true form using some special method."
Indeed, Tianlin had learned a new technique from the Shushan Treasure Record after obtaining his fourth spirit ring — the art of talisman-making. He used low-level concealment and transformation talismans to mask his martial spirit and spirit rings, ensuring his identity remained hidden during battles.
As a hit target by the Spirit Hall he had no choice but to be cautious.
Unfortunately Tianlin hadn't yet mastered the Five Spirit taoism. If he could mass-produce offensive talismans like the Flame Sky Slash he wouldn't have to rely on Tang San's hidden weapons.
But for now it's better to be cautious.
