After returning to the hotel, Lin Yongming exchanged a few words with Bibi Dong before heading to his room next door to rest and meditate.
Once Lin Yongming left, Bibi Dong fell into deep thought.
"Holy Maiden, should we keep an eye on that woman?" Bi Shi asked respectfully.
"Go ahead. Report back if anything unusual happens," Bibi Dong replied.
"Understood!" Bi Shi nodded and quickly left the hotel.
"Ye Ying," Bibi Dong called out after Bi Shi left.
"I'm here!" A cold, silent figure appeared before Bibi Dong.
"Balak City is adjacent to Suoto City. Given what Torres has done, I suspect the bishop of the Spirit Hall in Balak City might also be involved. Investigate him secretly," Bibi Dong analyzed.
"Understood!" Ye Ying replied, transforming into a shadow and disappearing from the room.
With that, the two Spirit Sages by Bibi Dong's side left the hotel.
The night passed, and neither Bi Shi nor Ye Ying returned.
During the day, Lin Yongming and Bibi Dong strolled around the area near the hotel.
Lin Yongming noticed that two people were no longer by Bibi Dong's side and guessed that she had sent them to monitor the Mad Tiger's family.
"Blind guy, where do you think Mad Tiger has gone?" Bibi Dong asked curiously.
"You know how fast I am. That day, because Wang Ming warned me in advance, I left first. Later, outside the southern gate of Suoto City, Mad Tiger realized he couldn't catch up to me, so he activated his Spirit Avatar to chase me. I took a few hits, but when he injured me, he might have gotten careless. I used the force of his attack to propel myself toward the nearest mountain outside the city. The complex terrain helped me escape."
Lin Yongming suddenly began recounting the events of that day.
"You've already told me this part," Bibi Dong said, puzzled.
"So I'm thinking, if Mad Tiger hasn't returned home yet, is it possible that his enemies found out about this situation and followed him? Maybe after he used his Spirit Avatar, his enemies killed him."
"You know that when a Spirit Sage uses their Spirit Avatar, they become extremely weakened afterward. If an enemy had been following Mad Tiger, a Spirit Emperor could easily take advantage of his weakened state to kill him," Lin Yongming explained, using this as an excuse to divert suspicion.
"Hmm… That's a possibility. In the world of spirit masters, who can guarantee they don't have hidden enemies? Whether it's due to conflicting interests or blood feuds, enemies can appear at any time. Just like Wang Ming, who endured humiliation by Torres' side for years, waiting for the right moment to take revenge," Bibi Dong said, half-convinced by Lin Yongming's reasoning.
"Of course, this is just speculation. There are so many spirit masters on the continent, and Mad Tiger, as a viscount of the Balak Kingdom, has a complicated network of relationships. It's impossible to determine whether he's alive or dead, who his enemies are, or which enemy might have acted against him," Lin Yongming added, shaking his head helplessly.
"If Mad Tiger isn't here, how can we confront them? Without evidence, Mad Tiger's wife won't admit to anything," Bibi Dong said with a wry smile.
"If Mad Tiger doesn't show up in the next two days, we'll have to let this go. If he's really dead, then I'm safe," Lin Yongming said, shaking his head.
"Let's wait two more days," Bibi Dong agreed, equally frustrated.
That night, Bi Shi, who had been hiding in the Mad Tiger's estate, noticed a guard rushing into the main hall.
"What did you find out?" Lady Hailis asked sternly.
"Madam, after a day of investigation, it's confirmed that the master did chase that blind man outside the southern gate of Suoto City. The blind man fled into the mountains, and the city guards saw the master use his Spirit Avatar to severely injure him. Later, they saw a blue light shoot into the mountains, and the master led a group to search the area."
"According to the villagers nearby, they heard intense noises coming from the mountains. After a blue light shot into the sky, all the noises stopped," the guard reported truthfully.
"A blue light… the blind man… Could it be the same blind man who was with the Spirit Hall girl last night? Is that why the Spirit Hall came to us?"
"Where is Ah Hu?" Lady Hailis shouted in agitation.
"Madam, I'm not sure if I should say this," the guard hesitated, his expression uneasy.
"Speak!" Lady Hailis demanded.
"The villagers at the foot of the mountain said they saw a group of people enter the mountains, but no one ever came out. That group was likely the master, Brother Huang, and Brother Wei. It's been days, and they haven't returned. They're probably… dead," the guard said cautiously.
"Impossible! Who could have killed them?" Lady Hailis refused to believe it.
"Madam, who else but the Spirit Hall? I also heard that the bishop of Suoto City's Spirit Hall was replaced yesterday. It's too much of a coincidence. Maybe the Spirit Hall happened to pass by that mountain and saw their own people being chased, so they… eliminated the master," the guard said mournfully.
"No… this can't be!" Lady Hailis collapsed into her chair.
"Madam, what should we do?" the guard asked softly.
"You've done well. Leave me," Lady Hailis said weakly.
"Yes," the guard replied and left the room.
Lady Hailis sat in a daze for a long time. As the clock neared 10 p.m., her expression finally changed.
"Ah Hu, I will avenge you," Lady Hailis said, her face hardening. She stood up and entered a room.
When she emerged, she had reapplied her makeup, looking more alluring than before. She then climbed over the backyard wall and left the estate.
"Where is she going at this hour?" Bi Shi wondered, following her.
Bi Shi trailed Lady Hailis until she arrived at a familiar castle—the Spirit Hall of Balak City. He watched as she spoke to the guards and was allowed inside.
"Why is she here at the Spirit Hall in the middle of the night? Is the bishop here also corrupt, like Torres?"
"I need to see what's going on," Bi Shi thought, sneaking in by climbing over the wall.
However, shortly after entering, a shadowy figure approached and tapped Bi Shi on the shoulder.
"Who's there!" Bi Shi was ready to summon his spirit, but the figure spoke.
"It's me, Ye Ying," the figure said. It was the same Ye Ying Bibi Dong had sent to investigate the bishop.
"You scared me! I thought I'd been discovered."
"Why are you here?" Bi Shi asked, relieved.
"The Holy Maiden sent me to investigate this place. Why are you here? Did she give you new orders?" Ye Ying asked.
"No, I followed Lady Robert here. She came to the Spirit Hall in the middle of the night. Her intentions can't be good," Bi Shi explained.
"I see. Shall we work together?"
"Let's do it."
Under Ye Ying's guidance, the two quickly made their way to the residential area at the back of the Spirit Hall.
Lady Hailis walked down the corridor and soon arrived at a door in the center of the courtyard.
The two observers watched as Lady Hailis knocked on the door.
"Who is it at this hour?" A lean man in his fifties, with a black mustache and goatee, opened the door. It was Bishop Greenk.
"Lady Hailis? What brings you here at this hour?" Bishop Greenk asked, puzzled.
"Bishop Greenk, aren't you going to invite me in?" Lady Hailis said with a faint smile.
"Oh, of course. Please, come in," Bishop Greenk said, stepping aside politely.
Once Lady Hailis entered, Bishop Greenk glanced around before closing the door.
Bi Shi and Ye Ying exchanged a look and quickly moved closer to eavesdrop.
"Lady Hailis, please sit. Would you like some tea?" Bishop Greenk offered.
"Thank you, Bishop Greenk," Lady Hailis said gracefully, sitting on the sofa.
"Lady Hailis, what brings you here so late?" Bishop Greenk asked casually as he prepared the tea.
"Bishop Greenk, I won't beat around the bush. I need your help," Lady Hailis said, looking directly at him.
"What kind of help do you need? Please, tell me," Bishop Greenk said, pouring her a cup of tea.
"Alright, I'll be frank. Yesterday, members of the Spirit Hall from another division came to my estate…" Lady Hailis recounted the events involving Lin Yongming and her family's pursuit of him.
Of course, she twisted the story to make her family seem justified, claiming that Lin Yongming had stolen her son's spirit beast and then killed him.
"Lady Hailis, you're putting me in a difficult position. They're also from the Spirit Hall, and one of them is a seven-ring Spirit Sage. Even if you're in the right, I'm afraid I can't help you," Bishop Greenk said with a smile, shaking his head.
"Bishop Greenk, you're a level 78 Spirit Sage. That person is only a level 72 Spirit Sage. He's no match for you. With your three Spirit Emperor assistants and my family's guards, dealing with them shouldn't be too difficult," Lady Hailis pressed.
"No, no. If I intervene, and the Spirit Hall headquarters finds out, it would be tantamount to betrayal. The risk is too great," Bishop Greenk continued to refuse.
"Bishop Greenk, you could simply claim they're imposters using the Spirit Hall's name to commit crimes. There's no need to refuse so quickly. I'm willing to pay you one million gold spirit coins upfront," Lady Hailis said, pulling out a purple-gold card.
"Lady Hailis, that's quite a sum—almost equivalent to my lifetime earnings. But I'm an old man now. What use do I have for so much money?" Bishop Greenk said, unmoved.
Bi Shi and Ye Ying exchanged approving glances upon hearing Bishop Greenk's response.
"Bishop Greenk, you're too modest. I've always heard of your integrity and how you're unmoved by wealth. It seems the rumors are true," Lady Hailis said with a forced smile.
"Haha! Lady Hailis, you misunderstand. If I were a few years younger, I might have been tempted by your offer. After all, people die for wealth, and birds die for food. But now, I've come to realize that accumulating wealth is meaningless. I'm alone—what would I do with so much money?" Bishop Greenk replied, sipping his tea.
"Then, Bishop Greenk, what would it take for you to help me? What do you need? If it's within my power, I'll do it," Lady Hailis said, her expression darkening before she forced another smile.
"This old man's personality has changed. Ah Hu always said Greenk was greedy. What's going on?" Lady Hailis thought angrily.
"Let's not talk about that. Instead, I must say, Lady Hailis, you look exceptionally beautiful tonight—more so than the few times I've seen you before," Bishop Greenk suddenly changed the subject.
"What do you mean?" Lady Hailis asked, startled.
"I'm not saying I won't help you. As I said, I'm old, and money is just a worldly possession. But that doesn't mean I don't have other needs," Bishop Greenk said with a slow smile, pouring himself another cup of tea.
"Oh! I misunderstood you, Bishop Greenk. What do you need from us?" Lady Hailis said, pretending to understand.
"There's a saying: 'Food and lust are human nature.' What do you think of that, Lady Hailis?" Bishop Greenk said, taking another sip of tea.
"I see! Alright, if you help me kill those six people at the hotel, I'll find you the perfect woman. How about that?" Lady Hailis said with a forced smile.
"No, no. Lady Hailis, you still don't understand. I think you're quite perfect. Why look for some inexperienced girl?" Bishop Greenk said with a smile.
"What are you implying!" Lady Hailis stood up abruptly, her face filled with anger.
"Lady Hailis, I'll be honest. Ever since I saw you at those gatherings, I've felt that you're different. Spend one night with me, and I'll help you," Bishop Greenk said, his eyes roaming over her.
"Hmph… Don't even think about it!" Lady Hailis said, furious.
"Then, Lady Hailis, feel free to leave," Bishop Greenk said, making no move to stop her.
Lady Hailis stormed toward the door.
Bi Shi and Ye Ying, hearing her footsteps, quickly hid in the shadows above.
However, as Lady Hailis reached the door, she hesitated. She glanced back at Bishop Greenk, who was still sipping his tea.
"Ah Hu, no matter the cost, I will avenge you."
In that moment, Lady Hailis thought of many things. If Mad Tiger was truly dead, their family would lose its pillar. The news would spread soon, and their family's assets would be divided among the other nobles.
Thinking of the future, Lady Hailis reluctantly returned to Bishop Greenk.
"Fine, I agree. But you must help me eliminate those six Spirit Hall members first. After that, I'll do as you wish," Lady Hailis said, staring directly at him.
"No, no. I'm taking a huge risk by betraying the Spirit Hall. If word gets out, I'll lose my position as bishop. Let's complete the transaction first," Bishop Greenk said, shaking his head.
"I knew it!" Lady Hailis thought, closing her eyes. She had anticipated this response.
However, she hadn't expected Bishop Greenk to be this kind of person. In the past, he was greedy for money. Now, he was greedy for something else.
"Fine. But if you don't keep your word, don't blame me for taking you down with me," Lady Hailis said firmly.
"That's more like it. It's just a small favor, after all," Bishop Greenk said, standing up and walking toward Lady Hailis.
With that, Bishop Greenk shed his gentlemanly demeanor, his eyes filled with desire. He picked up Lady Hailis and carried her toward the bedroom. The living room fell into darkness.
Bi Shi and Ye Ying exchanged a look of disbelief, ashamed of their earlier naivety.
