Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The First Spirit Ring

Chapter 28: The First Spirit Ring

After finding a clearing, Yang Wudi set down both the Thousand-Jin Ant and Yang Potian, a look of concern on his face. "Potian, to acquire a spirit ring, you must kill the beast yourself. Now, it's up to you to end this Thousand-Jin Ant."

"Potian, think carefully. This ant's age exceeds the usual limit for a first ring by quite a bit, which will make the absorption process dangerous and very painful."

"Grandfather, you've already tested my body's resilience. I can handle it—I'm certain."

Yang Potian called forth his Po Soul Spear and, with a precise thrust, pierced the ant's eye. Blood flowed freely, and the Thousand-Jin Ant fell lifeless.

Above the ant's corpse, a yellow spirit ring materialized.

Yang Potian gazed at the ring, seated himself on the ground, and took a deep breath to calm his mind. He adjusted to his optimal state before initiating the absorption.

Following the correct technique, he raised his right hand, gathering all his soul power in his palm. A sharp glimmer appeared as his Po Soul Spear manifested in his hand, the black metal exuding a powerful aura. At the same time, his entire body seemed to respond, as if it, too, craved the ring, which made sense—this ring suited his body spirit well.

Ignoring the sensation, he used his soul power to guide the spirit ring slowly toward him. As the ring approached, he felt an overwhelming pressure that made his bones creak under the strain.

When the spirit ring hovered over his head, an immense force surged into his body, pushing him past his limits. The energy raced through him, making it feel as if his veins and meridians would burst.

In this critical moment, his body spirit activated, steadily absorbing the overwhelming energy and restoring balance within him.

Suddenly, the yellow ring shrank, condensing into a small bracelet-sized ring that settled around his Po Soul Spear. Potian's hand instantly felt as if it had plunged into molten lava as fiery energy coursed through his body, searing every muscle and fiber. His entire being trembled from the intensity.

He gritted his teeth, gathering all his strength and focusing his mind, using his meditation techniques to channel the energy throughout his body. The Po Soul Spear in his hand felt as if it were being forged anew, its shaft darkening, becoming more resilient, like iron tempered a thousand times over.

As the energy merged with him, Potian could see the flow of soul power more clearly within him. It was as if he could visualize every detail of his inner structure: a towering figure wielding a spear, enduring a sea of flames with unyielding resolve.

Eventually, the powerful energy settled, integrating into his body and leaving him feeling warm and comfortable. His meridians seemed wider, his soul power flowed more swiftly, and his body felt like it had broken past a previous limit.

"It's done. I've finally absorbed my first spirit ring."

Opening his eyes, Yang Potian felt a profound sense of freedom and strength. His body felt stronger and more robust, and he even seemed taller than before.

Yang Wudi, watching from the side, breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that Potian had successfully absorbed the nearly 600-year-old ring, a feat unheard of for a first spirit ring—a historic milestone.

"Grandfather, I did it! I've absorbed my first spirit ring!"

Yang Wudi's face shone with pride. "Well done, Potian! You really are my grandson!"

"Let me check your condition, just to make sure you haven't suffered any hidden injuries," Yang Wudi said.

"Grandfather, I feel great; there's nothing wrong."

Despite Potian's reassurances, Yang Wudi carefully examined him. Finally, he nodded in satisfaction. "Indeed, you're fine. In fact, you seem stronger. So, what is your first spirit ability? How does it work?"

"My first spirit ability is called 'Strength of a Thousand,' and it's remarkable. When I activate it, my physical strength increases by 50%, and my Po Soul Spear's power doubles for up to ten minutes. Also, my soul power is already at level 12."

Yang Wudi swallowed in astonishment. "Potian, that first spirit ability is incredible! It's comparable to some thousand-year abilities from the Strength Clan. I've rarely heard of a weapon spirit that also boosts the body's strength—usually, that only happens after the seventh ring."

Hearing this, Yang Potian couldn't help but smile. After reaching Soul Sage level, many soul masters achieve perfect harmony with their weapon spirits, but his situation was different. With two spirits—his Po Soul Spear and his body spirit—this synergy occurred much earlier, allowing his body to benefit from the ring.

Unlike most soul masters, who can only sense their weapon spirit before reaching Soul Sage, Potian could already visualize a towering figure wielding his weapon—a true connection between body and spirit.

Moreover, the ring was not only strengthening his Po Soul Spear but subtly enhancing his body spirit as well, making it an ideal match.

Yang Potian could feel the weight of his spear increase, along with his strength. Even his mental fortitude had grown. Could these advantages be attributed to his body spirit?

Bolstered by this outcome, Potian felt confident in his decision to pursue strength-enhancing rings, particularly those beyond his age limit. In Douluo Dalu 2, the character "Du Bushi" had a body spirit, the entire form of which could transform. His seventh spirit ring was a ten-thousand-year ring, proving how formidable the body spirit could be.

One day, thought Potian, I will train hard enough to reach the seventh ring—and make it a ten-thousand-year ring.

By now, Yang Wudi had finished examining the Thousand-Jin Ant's body but found no spirit bone.

As they prepared to leave, Potian had an idea. "Grandfather, it seems there are many medicinal herbs growing in the Sunset Forest. Why don't we explore a bit and see if we can find something valuable?"
