Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Training Plan
Chapter 24: Training Plan
After reaching level 10 spirit power, Yang Potian sat down to carefully contemplate his future training plan.
The Po Clan's Soulbreaker Spear spirit pursued the pinnacle of offensive power—maximum destructive force. The clan's legacy focused on a battle-tested approach, choosing all spirit rings with offensive skills to enhance this aspect. This method allowed Po Clan spirit masters to dominate their peers in terms of attack power, even occasionally enabling them to challenge higher-ranked opponents.
But there was a drawback: the emphasis on offense left them with limited defenses and little versatility. The approach was solid in theory, but it wasn't exactly the path Yang Potian envisioned for himself.
Recalling the original story, Yang Potian noted the world's most elite tool spirits: the Clear Sky Hammer, the Seven Kill Sword, and the Soulbreaker Spear, wielded by Tang Hao and Tang Xiao, Sword Douluo Chen Xin, and his own grandfather, Yang Wudi, respectively. Yet, despite their similarities, there were distinct differences in strength and versatility.
Tang Hao, who had just become a Titled Douluo, had defeated Qian Xunji along with two other Titled Douluos—a testament to his formidable power. Tang Xiao, at level 97, was able to use the Clear Sky Clan's unique battle formation to defeat three Titled Douluos of similar strength from Spirit Hall, stunning everyone who witnessed it. Meanwhile, Sword Douluo Chen Xin, during the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan's battle, managed to overpower four Titled Douluos—but he was already level 97 and had the support of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda, while his opponents only reached level 92 at most. Impressive, but not miraculous.
His grandfather Yang Wudi, though also a powerful force, only managed to achieve mutual destruction against a level 92 Serpent Lance Douluo. His lower spirit power level of 82 had held him back, and his battle record, though remarkable, was limited by his level.
The core difference, Yang Potian realized, lay in how the Clear Sky Clan developed their Clear Sky Hammer with raw, unrelenting strength, combined with the clan's unique skills, the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes. The Seven Kill Sword and the Soulbreaker Spear both leaned toward offense, but neither focused on pure strength as intensely as the Clear Sky Hammer did.
With this in mind, Yang Potian resolved to hone his training toward pure strength, intensifying his spear techniques as a secondary focus to maximize his potential.
On the topic of spear techniques, Yang Potian had a head start. He had always been drawn to spear combat, dabbling in the Yang family spear techniques and Yue family spear techniques in his previous life. While he only grasped the basics, he believed mastering the foundations could eventually lead him to create his own spirit skills.
Another dilemma was his dual spirits. If he trained his Body Spirit first, his physical strength would grow tremendously. By the time he reached Spirit Sage level, his physical attributes would likely rival that of a Titled Douluo. Starting with the Body Spirit could make him even more formidable once he turned his focus to the Soulbreaker Spear.
However, he understood that his Body Spirit had to remain hidden for now. Being the Po Clan's heir, his standing demanded that he exhibit his Soulbreaker Spear spirit, as this would ensure the clan's confidence in his leadership.
After weighing his options, Yang Potian mapped out his training path. The next piece he needed was his spirit ring, and he'd need his father's and grandfather's support to put his plan into action.
The next morning, Yang Potian went to his father and grandfather. "Grandfather, Father, I've reached level 10."
Both looked at him in surprise, particularly his father. "Son, your cultivation speed is impressive. You're already at level 10?"
Yang Potian inwardly chuckled. Some father—he doesn't even keep track of his son's progress.
His grandfather, Yang Wudi, was the first to respond. "Well done, Potian. We'll find you the perfect spirit ring, using the best training resources the Po Clan has to offer."
Yang Potian nodded resolutely. "Grandfather, Father, I want my first ring to be focused on strength."
Both looked intrigued. "Why choose a strength-based ring?" asked Yang Wudi. "Isn't the clan's traditional spirit ring configuration effective?"
"Grandfather, I know the Po Clan's configuration is strong, but I want to dedicate every ring I obtain to increasing my strength."
Yang Wudi's expression grew serious. "Potian, focusing on strength alone has risks. Are you trying to emulate the Clear Sky Clan?"
Potian gave a firm nod. "Yes, Grandfather. I've thought about the consequences, which is why I plan to absorb rings that are beyond the typical age limit. My first ring should be 500 to 600 years old."
His grandfather's brow furrowed. "You understand the risks of absorbing rings beyond your limit, don't you? It can cause internal injuries. Are you prepared for that?"
Yang Potian was unwavering. "Grandfather, the Po Clan's strength lies in our knowledge of medicinal treatments. Any injuries I sustain can be managed with our medical techniques and herbal baths. I've trained my body rigorously, and with these treatments, I believe I can handle the strain of higher-age spirit rings."
After a thorough examination of his grandson's physical condition, Yang Wudi finally smiled. "Good. Your physique is indeed strong enough. Absorbing a 500-year ring should be feasible."
Yang Zhentian, Potian's father, let out a sigh of relief.
"Tomorrow, I'll take you to find your spirit ring. Have you thought of a specific target?"
Potian replied with a mischievous grin, "I don't have anything specific in mind, just that it should be a strength type. But the rarer, the better—like a Titan Giant Ape or a Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear."
Yang Wudi chuckled and lightly tapped his grandson on the head. "You think big! Those are incredibly rare, Potian, and finding one of the right age is even harder."
Potian couldn't help but chuckle. An elder of the Clear Sky Clan's outer sect and he's never even seen a Titan Giant Ape?
After some discussion, they settled on a list of potential spirit beasts. They decided to seek out strength-oriented beasts like the Thousand-Jin Ant, various bears, apes, tigers, and dragons. Next, they would need to find a spirit beast that had lived between 500 and 600 years—no small feat.
It was decided that Yang Wudi would accompany Potian to the Sunset Forest. Although the forest wasn't known for high-level spirit beasts, it was abundant in other spirit creatures and was one of the most famous forests for spirit hunting on the Douluo Continent.
For Potian, there was also another goal. If he could locate the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, it would be ideal. He hoped to secure it before Dugu Bo discovered its power, or at the very least, find its location and plan for the future.
The following morning, Yang Wudi and Yang Potian set off in a carriage bound for the Sunset Forest. Although the forest was only 60 kilometers from the Po Clan, it was still too far for a six-year-old to make the journey on foot.
