Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Rising Tensions Among Factions
At the same time, within the palace of Heaven Dou City...
Today was the coming-of-age ceremony for Xue Beng, the fourth prince of the Heaven Dou Empire. Emperor Xue Ye had spared no effort, inviting many prominent forces across the continent to celebrate his somewhat troublesome son's milestone.
Among the attendees were key factions, including Spirit Hall, the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan, and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan—top forces renowned throughout the continent.
As the palace resonated with lively music, laughter, and conversation, an unexpected rumble of thunder cut through the festivities, startling everyone present. A massive, ocean-like aura emanated through the space, detected by the keen senses of the stronger attendees.
"What's happening? What was that?" Emperor Xue Ye, a Soul King himself, frowned, sensing the unusual disturbance.
Hearing his question, Captain Rokeson of the Heaven Dou Royal Knights, responsible for the event's security, promptly replied, "Your Majesty, I will send someone to investigate immediately."
With that, Rokeson selected two elite knights and headed toward the origin of the powerful aura. The task of guarding Emperor Xue Ye's safety fell to the three formidable Soul Douluo experts, Bai Baoshan, Meng Shenji, and Zhi Lin.
"Such immense power... this thunder... is it a natural calamity or something man-made?" Ning Fengzhi gazed into the distance, noticing the unusual dark lightning shaped like a long blade. Puzzled, he murmured to himself.
The deputy leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu Luomian, the father of Liu Erlong, overheard him and spoke up. "This thunder must be a rare natural phenomenon. Not even our clan's master could create something of that magnitude."
The clan master, Yu Yuanzhen, a Soul Douluo at level ninety-five, was widely acknowledged as the foremost authority on lightning manipulation across Douluo Continent. If he could not match this lightning's power, then surely it was a calamity beyond human control.
The spectators unanimously agreed with Yu Luomian's assessment, convinced this "dark lightning" was a natural occurrence rather than a human feat. After all, if even the continent's foremost expert in lightning couldn't conjure such destructive force, how could anyone else?
Meanwhile, in the grand hall, Bibi Dong, seated gracefully on her throne, slowly opened her eyes, a glint of curiosity flickering within. Among the attendees, Bibi Dong possessed the highest strength, her formidable spiritual sense easily detecting the foreign aura emanating from the thunder.
The energy she sensed felt distinctly different from soul power, yet it carried immense potency. So powerful, in fact, that even she, a Titled Douluo at the peak with dual Martial Souls, felt a hint of apprehension.
Realizing this, Bibi Dong's interest piqued. That "dark lightning" was far from ordinary. Driven by curiosity, she resolved to investigate, suspecting that something unknown, perhaps a hidden power or secret, lay behind this strange phenomenon.
With a slight smirk, she spoke up, "Why has the Crown Prince not arrived yet? Could he be entering the city just now? I recall that the thunder struck near the city gates. Perhaps… he might be in danger."
Her words caused a sudden shift in the atmosphere. Emperor Xue Ye, Xue Beng, and Ning Fengzhi each turned visibly pale.
The Crown Prince, Xue Qinghe, was Ning Fengzhi's disciple and a critical pillar for the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan. Any harm to the prince would ruin years of careful planning and investment Ning Fengzhi had made in his future.
Once he composed himself, Ning Fengzhi stood up and said, "Your Majesty, I will go with Uncle Sword to check on the Crown Prince."
Emperor Xue Ye promptly responded, "Very well! I leave the matter in your capable hands, Sect Master Ning."
With a nod, Sword Douluo Chenxin summoned his sword spirit, flying toward the eastern gate with Ning Fengzhi following closely behind.
Watching Ning Fengzhi depart, Bibi Dong saw her plan progressing smoothly. She then took advantage of the moment, "Your Majesty, I will assist Sect Master Ning as well."
Without waiting for a reply, Bibi Dong, accustomed to doing things her way, departed with Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan and Ghost Douluo Gui Mei at her side.
Seeing this, Emperor Xue Ye decided it best to say nothing, simply encouraging the remaining guests to resume the festivities.
As they flew toward the gate, Chenxin transmitted a message to Ning Fengzhi, "Be cautious, Fengzhi. I sensed a distinct sword aura within that dark lightning."
"A sword aura?" Ning Fengzhi responded, his brows knitting in concern.
"Yes, and not just any ordinary sword aura. I could feel it was stronger, sharper, and fiercer than my own Seven Kill Sword aura!" Chenxin confirmed.
"So, that dark lightning likely isn't a natural phenomenon. Yet I cannot fathom who on Douluo Continent could wield both lightning and swordsmanship to such a terrifying degree. Proceed with caution."
Stunned by Chenxin's revelation, Ning Fengzhi involuntarily swallowed. Someone possessing greater sword aura than Sword Douluo, the continent's most famed swordsman? Could such a person truly exist?
Though initially in disbelief, Ning Fengzhi's expression turned grave. As they approached the gate, his anticipation mingled with trepidation, though his thoughts briefly drifted to his daughter, Ning Rongrong, currently attending Shrek Academy.
Meanwhile, as Bibi Dong, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei neared the gate, a strange feeling of unease crept upon them.
"Your Holiness," Gui Mei spoke, his tone laced with gravity, "That dark lightning… seems to stem from a peculiar energy. While distinct from our soul power, its strength could rival both Yue Guan and myself. Moreover, there's a sense of sharpness within it."
Gui Mei's face showed an uncharacteristic seriousness. This unusual energy pressured him, and few on the continent could manage that, aside from the oddities within the Hall of Elders or figures like Chenxin or Tang Hao.
In response, Bibi Dong transmitted back, "Remain alert. Follow my lead once we arrive."
"Understood!" Both Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo responded in unison.
Though spiritual energy and soul power were fundamentally different, both were forms of energy. Thus, when Lu Yunzhou had invoked his spell, the energy fluctuations inevitably drew Bibi Dong and her companions' attention.
