Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The City Lord’s Son – Part 1
As the son of Tang Hao and the 100,000-year-old Blue Silver Emperor, his lineage was inherently powerful. Moreover, the Blue Silver Emperor was a spirit beast renowned for its extraordinary vitality. Thus, even if Tang San possessed only one martial soul, it was inevitable that he would have full innate soul power. The only explanation for his initial lack of such power was the abuse Tang San endured during his childhood.
Every day, he subsisted on thin porridge—a source of poor-quality carbohydrates in medical terms—and lived in abysmal conditions. How could his innate soul power not suffer as a result?
Based on this, Ye Wen proposed a hypothesis: the innate soul power of a martial soul is closely related to the nutritional intake during fetal development, as well as the living environment and dietary conditions after birth.
However, a hypothesis is still just a hypothesis. In the original story, Oscar—an orphan—possessed full innate soul power, which raised questions about other potential factors. Ye Wen speculated that Oscar might have accidentally consumed some rare medicinal herb before awakening his martial soul, as his poor diet and living conditions made it implausible for him to possess full innate soul power otherwise.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, school had started. By this time, Ye Wen's soul power had reached Level 20.
As for controlling his soul power, Ye Wen had already deceived the Spirit Hall into granting him a monthly stipend of one gold coin before the holidays began. It was undeniable how advantageous being a soul master was—one gold coin could sustain an ordinary family of three for several months.
At school, Ye Wen maintained the persona of an 11th-level soul master.
Currently, Ye Wen wasn't in a rush to hunt for his second soul ring. His target for the second soul ring was a thousand-year soul ring—a notion that would shock most soul masters of this era. However, the Douluo world thousands of years later had already proven the possibility of such feats.
Aside from Tang San's overpowered patchwork daughter, the most prominent example was Long Ao Tian of the Body Sect, whose martial soul was skin.
By now, Ye Wen's physical strength had reached 1,000 jin. However, he felt it was still insufficient. To prepare for unforeseen circumstances, he decided to train until his strength reached 1,300 jin before obtaining his second soul ring. Even without a soul ring, he could continue cultivating his soul power—it wasn't something he needed to rush. Moreover, the target for his second soul ring wasn't a particularly powerful spirit beast, so he could afford to wait.
As for Ah Yin, she had already condensed her second soul ring: **Blue Silver Wild Waves**.
This wasn't an offensive soul skill but rather a defensive one. It involved summoning a large amount of Blue Silver Grass in front of her. If there was existing Blue Silver Grass nearby, she could conserve soul power by directly stimulating its growth. This created waves that blocked enemy attacks and hindered their movements, making it a versatile crowd-control skill with both defensive and controlling capabilities.
When used within Ah Yin's Blue Silver Domain, the potency of this soul skill increased significantly. Ye Wen estimated that even an ordinary Soul Elder might struggle to approach Ah Yin under its effects—though flying-type soul masters were an exception.
Additionally, Ah Yin's spiritual power was still relatively low, preventing her from finely controlling the Blue Silver Grass to weave armor or similar constructs. However, she could still perform basic manipulations, such as forming a shield or enclosing herself in a cage of Blue Silver Grass. Even flying-type soul masters would find it difficult to threaten her.
Though Ah Yin's offensive capabilities were weak, when paired with the pulley crossbow and supported by her second soul skill, assassinating a Soul King was still within the realm of possibility.
In light of this, Ye Wen couldn't help but scoff at what Yu Xiaogang had taught Tang San. Such simple control-based strategies seemed entirely lost on him. Wasn't the core of a control-type soul master to disrupt the enemy while ensuring their own survival? Look at how Tang San turned out—when things went smoothly, he was fine, but when the tide turned against him, he could only rely on his hidden weapons for self-defense. Ridiculous.
As Ye Wen quietly studied his martial soul and led a peaceful student life, trouble inevitably came knocking.
The arrogant nobles, who always looked down on others, finally set their sights on Ye Wen's dormitory.
It was unclear which noble harbored such delusions, but despite Dormitory Three never having any conflicts with them, they deemed it an insult to their noble status to leave Dormitory Three alone. Then, upon catching a glimpse of Ah Yin's delicate features during her morning routine, lustful thoughts took hold—
"Little sister, associating with these peasants is a waste of your potential. Become my wife, and you'll live a far more luxurious life."
A narrow-eyed youth smirked as he addressed Ah Yin, while behind her stood everyone from Dormitory Three.
Even Ye Wen slowly stepped forward.
Ye Wen sneered inwardly at the noble's words. Marriages arranged for political gain among nobles were nothing new. Marry Ah Yin as a wife? More like taking her as a concubine—or perhaps not even that.
"I'm perfectly content with my current life. Please leave and don't disturb my studies," Ah Yin coldly rejected him.
However, the arrogant noble youth, accustomed to getting his way, wasn't so easily deterred. With an air of superiority, he declared:
"Choosing you is a gift I bestow upon you. Don't be ungrateful. After all, I am the son of Notting City's lord."
Observing the situation, Ye Wen furrowed his brow. Though he didn't fear the noble himself, the fact that he was the city lord's son complicated matters. Moreover, Ah Yin had no concept of class distinctions in human society—if she spoke out of turn, it could invite serious trouble. Thus, Ye Wen decided to intervene.
"According to imperial law, no noble may forcibly marry a commoner soul master. Violators face imprisonment for over a year and a fine of one thousand gold coins. Does Young Master intend to break the law?" Ye Wen interjected calmly.
"Boss!!!" The members of Dormitory Three shouted in unison, their collective presence startling the usually carefree noble youths.
Xiao Lie, the city lord's son, hadn't expected anyone among these peasants to know imperial law. Combined with their intimidating demeanor, he was momentarily at a loss.
Seeing this, Xiao Lie's lackeys whispered urgently:
"Young Master, you haven't married her yet—you're merely proposing. You haven't broken any laws."
Regaining his composure, Xiao Lie confidently retorted, "I'm merely expressing my affection for this young lady—I haven't forced her into anything. Let me warn you, commoner, don't slander me falsely. Otherwise, our city lord's residence will make you regret it."
"So Young Master is aware of the law, is he? But clearly, my sister has already declined your proposal. May I ask what other business you have here?" Ye Wen asked indifferently.
Xiao Lie was once again at a loss for words. Initially intending to cause trouble, his lust for Ah Yin's beauty had clouded his judgment. Now, torn between his two conflicting objectives, he found it difficult to justify suppressing Dormitory Three further.
