Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Showdown
After waiting for five hours, Liu Erlong finally dared to step forward.
No one wanted to face the final, desperate counterattack of a 40,000-year-old soul beast.
The Red Flame Python, now a corpse, had long lost its original form.
Its dark red scales had evolved into a golden red, it had grown five or six meters longer, and a large tumor had appeared on its head.
The strange fire had refined every part of the Red Flame Python, forcing it to evolve, but it also burned away its essence. If this had been a benign evolution, it might have even become a Flame Dragon, Liu Erlong thought.
In the remains of the dead Red Flame Python, she sensed a strong fluctuation of soul power. Her martial spirit possessed her, and she slashed down with a knife.
...
The sound of metal clashing rang out.
Liu Erlong's attack had failed to move the scales of the evolved Red Flame Python. She couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed. She looked around—there was not a soul in sight, human or beast. The python's roar and the power of its evolution had scared off nearly all the nearby soul beasts.
Frustrated, she activated her martial soul once more. Her hands transformed into dragon claws, and she began attacking with abandon.
Finally, as the last scale, roughly the size of a human head, was torn off, Liu Erlong's claws ripped through the python's flesh.
The appearance of the evolved Red Flame Python was fierce, but its insides had been burnt beyond recognition, reduced to a paste of flesh. Amid the ruin, a ball of red light caught Liu Erlong's eye.
It was a left arm soul bone.
Just one look awakened an intense desire within her. Soul bones are rare, and ten-thousand-year soul bones are priceless. Finding a soul bone with attributes that matched her own was nearly impossible.
Liu Erlong was confident that by absorbing this soul bone and using her heart fire to temper it, she could break through the level 80 barrier and advance to Soul Douluo.
With trembling hands, she pulled the soul bone from the python's flesh. She could still feel the fierce aura of the Red Flame Python lingering in it. Taking a few deep breaths, she reminded herself that this soul bone would also be suitable for Xiaoyan. With Xiaoyan's twin martial souls, it could help him even more.
Suppressing her desire, she quickly stored it in her soul guide, fearing that if she looked at it again, she might not be able to resist absorbing it on the spot.
She cut off a few scales from the Red Flame Python, unleashed her soul skills to destroy the corpse, and then returned to Lanba Academy.
The next day, Liu Erlong, who often forgot the courtesy of knocking, kicked open Yu Tianyan's door.
"Xiaoyan, wake up!"
Yu Tianyan reluctantly opened his eyes, yawning. The mental strain from using the fission fire had drained him, and one night's sleep wasn't nearly enough to recover. It would take at least half a month for him to fully bounce back.
"What's the rush, Sister? I'm exhausted."
Seeing Yu Tianyan's haggard face, Liu Erlong felt a pang of guilt, but her excitement made her press on.
"Look, Xiaoyan!"
With a small movement of her fingers, a red, crystal-clear soul bone appeared in her hand.
Yu Tianyan blinked, confused. The soul power radiating from the soul bone was strong, giving him the feeling of facing a fierce beast. It seemed the fire snake he had defeated hadn't gone to waste after all.
Seeing Liu Erlong's serious expression, he sighed and said with a faint smile, "Sister, you should keep it. I found it for you in the first place."
Letting Liu Erlong absorb a high-quality, attribute-matching soul bone was just the first step in his plan.
"Xiaoyan..."
Liu Erlong, who had been sleepless with excitement, now suspected that Yu Tianyan had targeted the Red Flame Python to let her absorb the soul bone. Hearing his answer now moved her deeply.
"Sister, don't worry. With the power of my strange fire, we can acquire any soul bone we want in the future. Now, focus on breaking through to Soul Douluo."
She put away the soul bone, took out a plan she had prepared, and thought of Yu Tianyan's abilities. With him around, soul bones would not be in short supply.
"An artificial Titled Douluo?" Liu Erlong exclaimed, surprised.
She read on, and the more she read, the more astonished she became. She could feel a slight sweat on her forehead—her six-year-old brother had planned all this for her.
"The Artificial Titled Douluo Plan"
"A Six-Year Transformation Plan"
"The Comprehensive Strengthening Plan for Erlong"
"The Optimal Soul Bone Pairings for Erlong"
"The Ideal Breakthrough Timelines for Sister Erlong"
"Full Fire Dragon Martial Spirit Development Guide"
Even with her bold heart, Liu Erlong was shocked by Yu Tianyan's thorough planning. Six years to become a Titled Douluo—it felt completely achievable.
"Xiaoyan, can this really work?"
Her hands trembled, nearly dropping the few pages of the plan.
On the Douluo Continent, Titled Douluo are among the strongest forces, second only to the gods. This level is the lifelong pursuit of countless soul masters.
With Liu Erlong's innate soul power level of 7, reaching Soul Douluo was likely the furthest she could have advanced on her own. Three years ago, with Yu Tianyan's help, she absorbed a wisp of heart fire that greatly improved her potential and made Titled Douluo a possibility.
Now, even though she had only activated her heart fire three times in three years, she had reached a cultivation speed similar to a soul master in their youth. Without a bottleneck, it would normally take her at least 20 more years to reach Titled Douluo.
"Sister, I need power. Will you be my strength? I need you."
Summoning his energy, Yu Tianyan looked at her with a sincerity that moved her.
For the sake of his revenge, he couldn't afford to wait any longer. He would never forget the tragic death of his biological parents. He harbored doubts about Liu Erlong, given her ties to the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Rex family. Would she really fight against her own clan for her adopted brother?
Could she, for his sake, even oppose the Soul Saints of her family, the bedrock of the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Rex?
"Xiaoyan, what are you talking about? I am your sister. If I won't help you, who else will?"
Still, Liu Erlong's gaze flickered with uncertainty. Yu Tianyan's eyes were so sharp, so intense. He had been this way since childhood—always resolute about anything important, to the point that she often felt as if she were speaking to a peer.
"Sister, do you need me to say it more clearly?" he asked, needing her commitment before he could go ahead with his plan.
Liu Erlong was silent, putting the plan down and contemplating.
Had she been wrong all along in assuming Xiaoyan didn't remember how his parents had died?
"Xiaoyan, do you remember your parents?" she finally asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Yu Tianyan's weariness faded, his gaze filled with an unmistakable hatred.
"You already know the answer."
After a moment, Liu Erlong took a deep breath as she pieced together her thoughts. One name flashed through her mind, and a fierce resolve filled her expression.
"I'll help you, Xiaoyan."
