Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Showdown (3)
The powerful gorilla is an exceptional martial spirit, known for its immense strength, surpassing that of other beast spirit masters at the same level. Its defense is also top-tier among beast spirits. This was the first time Tai Long had been overpowered by someone at the same level.
As the light of his shield continued to weaken, Tai Long gritted his teeth and continued to pour soul power into it. He believed that releasing such a strong lightning attack would consume a lot of Yu Tianyan's soul power. Considering Yu Tianyan's age, Tai Long was sure his soul power level must be lower than his own. If he could hold out a bit longer, there might still be a chance to win.
The lightning in Yu Tianyan's palm kept striking the shield. He frowned, not expecting Tai Long's first soul skill to resist elemental attacks so effectively, though it wasn't an insurmountable obstacle.
With intense mental focus, Yu Tianyan controlled the lightning, forming it into a concentrated beam as thick as a bowl. The lightning, which had previously enveloped Tai Long's entire body, now focused sharply on a single point. "What incredible control," Yinshu murmured in awe. Liu Erlong nodded, impressed. Lightning is one of the most powerful elements in existence, yet also one of the hardest to control. Even the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Rex soul masters could only release it with attachments and soul skills.
With a sound like shattering glass, Tai Long's soul shield finally broke. The focused lightning beam pierced through his first soul skill and struck him directly. Tai Long's horrified eyes widened as the lightning attack hit him squarely.
Soul masters relying purely on strength have little chance to dodge lightning attacks, just as Tai Long had once struggled against Thunder students in the past. They could only endure and hope their opponent's soul power ran out before they did.
Seeing the direct hit, Yu Tianyan ceased his soul power output. This attack was sufficient for a three-ring powerful gorilla spirit master. As expected, under the lightning's onslaught, Tai Long collapsed with a tremor.
"Ah…ah…ah…" He lay on the ground, his entire body charred and emitting black smoke, with his reddish-brown hair standing on end. Fortunately, Yu Tianyan had avoided attacking his internal organs, sparing his life.
"This attack power! Jiangzhu, heal him immediately!" Yinshu shouted urgently. Jiangzhu nodded, raising her healing staff.
[First Soul Skill, Healing Aura][Second Soul Skill, Healing Array]
A soft green light infused Tai Long's body, followed by a green circle on the ground where he lay, warming and healing his injuries. His charred skin gradually regained color as the damage repaired itself.
"Xiaoyan, that was too much," Liu Erlong remarked as she approached, looking displeased as she surveyed Tai Long's injuries. Yu Tianyan waved a hand dismissively, adding mockingly, "It's not my fault. I told you they're weak—they can't even handle one attack."
Jing Ling, Huang Yuan, and Jiang Zhu, who had initially been stunned, now felt anger rise within them. Jiang Zhu, normally mild-mannered, glared at Yu Tianyan as she continued her healing work. Tai Long's defeat had been humiliating enough, but now he added insult to injury.
Yin Shu helped Tai Long up as he slowly regained mobility. His horrified gaze held a mixture of reluctance, anger, and humiliation, yet he was too shaken to say anything. Even his second soul skill had been useless against Yu Tianyan's defense.
Suddenly, Jing Ling stepped forward, her normally pale face hardening with cold resolve, but Huang Yuan caught her arm. "If Tai Long couldn't beat him, you're no match either. Don't be reckless," he whispered, gritting his teeth.
Jing Ling's head dropped in reluctant acknowledgment. Though Yu Tianyan had used up some soul power, he was still more than a match for her. Even Tai Long's strong defense couldn't withstand his lightning.
Seeing her classmates' frustration, Liu Erlong gave Yu Tianyan a firm slap on the head. "You little brat! Apologize to your seniors!"
Though Yu Tianyan was incredibly talented, these students were also some of the academy's top talent. If their frustration caused them to leave, Liu Erlong feared it would take ages to repair the academy's reputation. Yu Tianyan sighed, looking at the annoyed Huang Yuan and Jing Ling.
"Are you telling me I was wrong to call you weak?" he sneered.
Huang Yuan's face darkened, and he clenched his teeth, but he held his silence, grabbing Jing Ling's arm to prevent her from making a scene. If he could, he would've punched Yu Tianyan right there.
"Xiaoyan, that's enough. Don't go too far," Liu Erlong warned in a low voice. She felt Yu Tianyan's words had already gone too far—there was no need to humiliate them any further.
Yu Tianyan shrugged, casting a disdainful look at his classmates. "If you're not doing anything useful, go back to training. You're just in the way."
Everyone's eyes widened at his audacity—his words reminded them of things Liu Erlong herself had once said.
"Xiaoyan, are you out of your mind? Who do you think you're talking to? Apologize, now!" Yinshu cried, his face pale.
But Liu Erlong raised a hand to silence him. "Director, please escort Tai Long back to rest," she instructed, her tone icy and unyielding.
"Yes, Dean." Yinshu's eyes were full of resignation. Though Yu Tianyan's behavior was out of line, he dared not disobey her. He picked up Tai Long, feeling a pang of pity for Yu Tianyan, who he thought would likely pay for his impudence soon.
Huang Yuan, sensing the tension, quickly bowed. "Dean, we'll take our leave now," he said hastily. The academy's tales of the dean's strictness were not lost on him, and he knew Yu Tianyan's actions would not go unpunished.
Before Liu Erlong could reply, Yu Tianyan interrupted. "Aren't you supposed to have a wolf spirit? Why are you acting like a turtle—so cowardly!"
Huang Yuan's tolerance finally snapped. Enraged, he lifted his head and shouted, "You bastard! Lone Wolf Spirit Possession!"
