Chapter 29: Chapter 29: A Silver Submission
Zhu Zhuqing's decision to join Shrek Academy stemmed from practicality and caution. With her noble background, enrolling in another institution risked exposing her location to those who might report her to her brother, driven by promises of profit.
Both she and Dai Mubai were fugitives, striving to minimize risks. Furthermore, Zhu Zhuqing entertained the thought that perhaps Dai Mubai's strength had significantly improved over the years. Maybe his seemingly carefree demeanor was just a facade, and his resolve to train hadn't waned.
This rationalization comforted her, though she chose not to share her inner conflicts with Yun Feng, as her thoughts were her own burden to bear.
---
After leaving Soto City, Yun Feng and Zhu Zhuqing continued southward. The road was lined with vast farmlands, a testament to Soto City's reputation as the "Granary of the Balak Kingdom." However, apart from these fields, no structures resembling an academy were visible.
Zhu Zhuqing began to doubt the accuracy of the information she had received.
"Could it really be in one of those small villages?"
In the distance, about a mile ahead, stood a village surrounded by wooden fences, seemingly to ward off wild beasts.
Yun Feng's intuition told him this was likely Shrek Academy.
---
As they drew closer, Yun Feng confirmed his hunch.
At the village entrance was a wooden archway with a worn plaque bearing the words "Shrek Academy" in large, simple characters. Above the words was a crude, green humanoid monster's head.
The design was hideous, even nauseating.
Zhu Zhuqing was utterly stunned.
"Is this supposed to be an academy? It looks more like a village!"
Though her thoughts churned, she kept her composure and asked Yun Feng,
"Are you sure someone with your talent should attend a place like this?"
Yun Feng chuckled, glancing at Zhu Zhuqing.
"Talent like mine? It doesn't really matter where I go."
Hearing this, Zhu Zhuqing sighed softly.
"You don't have to demean yourself like this..."
Yun Feng saw that she misunderstood but chose not to clarify. Her misunderstanding worked in his favor.
---
As they stood at the entrance, Yun Feng felt a faint noise from his backpack. Zhu Zhuqing didn't notice, but Yun Feng immediately recognized it.
Activating his mental connection, he entered his spiritual sea to confront Ah Yin.
Her spectral form appeared fragile and haggard. Yun Feng's tone was mocking.
"What's wrong? Did you sense your son nearby and decide to run for it?"
Ah Yin's expression twisted between shame and defiance before she replied coldly,
"What do you want from me? Why are you doing this?"
Yun Feng smirked.
"Don't ask questions unless you want your precious son, Tang San, to be marked by me as well, bound to my will."
Ah Yin's body trembled violently. She knew Yun Feng wasn't bluffing. His ability to control her was terrifying, and she dared not imagine Tang San suffering the same fate.
Suppressing her pride, she bowed her head in submission.
"I'm sorry. I won't try anything like that again."
Yun Feng nodded, satisfied.
"Good. Make sure you remember this. Next time, the consequences won't be so simple."
Ah Yin whispered, "Understood..."
Satisfied, Yun Feng severed the connection and returned his attention to the present.
---
Seeing Yun Feng's momentary pause, Zhu Zhuqing interpreted it as reluctance.
"If you don't want to stay here, you don't have to, especially not for my sake," she said softly, her tone carrying an unusual warmth.
Yun Feng smiled, shaking his head.
"It's not like that. I was just thinking about something else. Don't worry about it."
"Let's head inside. It looks like registration is still open."
With that, Yun Feng led the way into the village.
After asking a few locals, they discovered that Shrek Academy was located in the rear half of the village. As they approached, they found no students, only silence.
Circling the academy grounds, they finally heard faint voices coming from the training field.
As they moved toward the sound, a middle-aged man suddenly appeared behind them.
"Who are you? Why are you at Shrek Academy?"
Startled, Yun Feng and Zhu Zhuqing turned to face the man.
He looked about fifty, with a stocky build and a strikingly distinctive face—broad cheekbones, a flat nose, and a slightly protruding jaw. If one had to describe him, his face resembled the sole of a shoe.
Despite his unassuming appearance, he radiated an invisible pressure, his soul power evident in every word.
Unfazed, Yun Feng responded calmly,
"We're here to register but missed the deadline. We came to take a look."
The man seemed unconcerned by Yun Feng's casual demeanor. After a moment's thought, he said,
"Registration costs 100 gold soul coins. If you fail the tests, there are no refunds."
Before Yun Feng could respond, Zhu Zhuqing retrieved a pouch from her spatial ring and handed over 200 gold soul coins without hesitation.
"We're registering."
The man weighed the pouch in his hand, nodded in satisfaction, and said,
"Follow me."
He turned and began walking toward the training field, with Yun Feng and Zhu Zhuqing following close behind.
