Douluo: Becoming a God by Relying on my Enemies

Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Absurd and Laughable!

Seeing the lack of reaction from the woman, Yun Feng continued speaking.

"You don't need to worry too much about other things. My name is Yun Feng. I'm twelve years old, a Rank 40 Soul Master, just one soul ring away from becoming a Soul Ancestor. And I'm not bad-looking, either."

His words had an immediate effect. The woman's eyes widened in shock, her previous despair completely replaced by astonishment.

She took a closer look at Yun Feng. While his clothes were decent, they didn't scream nobility. Based on his earlier explanations, he seemed like an ordinary civilian soul master. More surprising, however, was his age and cultivation level.

"Twelve years old… and a Rank 40 Soul Master?"

Her mind reeled. Even among great sects and Spirit Hall prodigies, such a feat was unheard of.

Her disbelief soon turned into suspicion, but Yun Feng responded by releasing his aura. The moment his martial soul appeared, the woman's body instinctively trembled, her soul power quivering in submission.

"This…!"

She was stunned. Not only was Yun Feng not lying, but his martial soul was so overwhelmingly powerful that even her own near-top-tier martial soul felt inferior.

"Who is he…?"

Her initial shame and frustration melted into curiosity.

"You don't need to worry about me abandoning you. As long as you don't betray me, I'll take responsibility for you. What do you say?" Yun Feng's tone was honest, almost too straightforward.

In his mind, taking her in wasn't a bad deal. She was beautiful and would make for pleasant company, if nothing else. Moreover, he knew many dual-cultivation techniques that could help both of them grow stronger together.

The woman, however, seemed momentarily lost in thought. Her expression grew pained, and Yun Feng realized she might have been reminded of someone—or something—from her past.

Seeing that his words weren't persuading her, Yun Feng sighed. "If that's your choice, I won't insist. I have other things to do."

He finished his breakfast, packed his belongings, and prepared to leave.

Just as he was about to walk away, the woman snapped out of her daze.

"Wait! My name is Zhu Zhuqing. Please give me some time to think this over."

Her words froze Yun Feng in place. He turned back, disbelief etched on his face.

"Zhu Zhuqing?"

He had briefly suspected it could be her—black clothing, a slender figure, feline grace. But he dismissed the thought due to the timing and her severe injuries.

In the original timeline, Zhu Zhuqing was uninjured when she arrived at Shrek Academy. Could his presence in this world have triggered a butterfly effect that altered her fate?

Yun Feng couldn't shake the possibility.

Realizing Zhu Zhuqing was watching him warily, he softened his expression. "You're Zhu Zhuqing? Really?"

Her guarded stance returned. "Yes. Why do you ask? Do you… know me?"

Yun Feng quickly masked his surprise, crafting a plausible explanation.

"I've heard rumors. I'm an information enthusiast, so I tend to pick up on these things. Your name isn't exactly a secret."

His answer was reasonable enough. Gossip about noble families often spread among the common folk, and Zhu Zhuqing's name was tied to the Star Luo Empire's politics.

Zhu Zhuqing relaxed slightly, though she remained cautious. "I apologize for doubting you earlier."

Yun Feng waved dismissively. "No need. But these wounds of yours… they don't look like they were caused by soul beasts. Were you really being chased, as the rumors say? Did your fiancé abandon you?"

Zhu Zhuqing's face turned pale as she nodded, the action draining her of all remaining vitality.

"Abandoned by your fiancé and hunted by your family. How absurd… how laughable," Yun Feng muttered, shaking his head.

Seeing Zhu Zhuqing's forlorn expression, Yun Feng spoke again, his tone more serious.

"Let me ask you something: do the rules of the mortal world truly matter that much to you?"

She hesitated but remained silent.

"You came here seeking the man who abandoned you, right? Why let a piece of paper—a mere engagement—dictate your life? Do you really think your family would lose their standing without you?"

Zhu Zhuqing didn't answer, her gaze distant.

"Think about it," Yun Feng continued. "Without your martial soul fusion technique, the Star Luo Empire's deterrence weakens significantly. They wouldn't let that happen. But here you are, risking everything for someone who may not even know or care about your sacrifices."

Each of Yun Feng's words struck like a blade, cutting straight to the heart of Zhu Zhuqing's predicament.

Tears welled up in her eyes, but this time she didn't hold them back. Her lips trembled as she finally spoke.

"It's not about whether it's worth it," she said softly. "It's about survival. Without power, I'm nothing but a pawn for the Star Luo Empire to discard. My only chance is to grow stronger, no matter the cost."

She paused before adding bitterly, "I was hunted down by my sister. I fell off a cliff and into a river, which brought me here."

Yun Feng fell silent.

Her story was both tragic and infuriating—a web of familial betrayal, societal expectations, and personal sacrifice. It was absurd and laughable, yet heartbreakingly real.

"Even so," Yun Feng said after a moment, "you should live for yourself, not others. Power is important, but so is freedom."

His voice was steady, his words laced with conviction.

"Stick with me, and I'll make sure you never have to bow to anyone again."

Zhu Zhuqing's tear-streaked face turned toward Yun Feng, her eyes shimmering with a mix of hope and doubt. Could he really of

fer her the strength to escape her chains?

For the first time, she considered the possibility.
