Chapter 99
Dorothy sat in her room, her expression focused as she awaited the results of the system’s exchange.
Through the information channel opened by the system, Dorothy received the secretive sacrificial offering transmitted from an unknown believer on the distant end. Without so much as glancing at it, she used the system to exchange it for knowledge. Shortly after, the result of the exchange appeared.
“Swordsmanship—Blazing Quickstrike Sword, exchanged: Laurent Swordsmanship.”
The system’s response surfaced in Dorothy’s mind. Hearing this voice, she paused momentarily, immediately recalling the origin of what had been exchanged.
Laurent Swordsmanship originated from the game “League of Legends,” specifically from the noble Laurent family’s martial heritage in Demacia. Known as a deadly dueling art, it was epitomized in the game by the Demacian hero, Fiora, the Grand Duelist.
“Swordsmanship… it turned out to be swordsmanship, huh? Well, that’s fine, it’s just what they need to face an enemy.”
Murmuring to herself, Dorothy immediately sent the exchanged knowledge back through the information channel, imprinting it into the Soul Codex of the anxious believer on the other side, allowing them to master the skill instantly.
…
In the crypt beneath the small chapel of Red Creek Town, Vania stared in astonishment at the ash-dissolving remnant of the mystical sacrifice offering before her. Her expression revealed a mix of confusion and surprise.
“Lord Dietrich’s offering… turned to ash… Was the sacrifice a success or a failure?”
Uneasiness welled up in Vania’s heart. But just then, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her consciousness, followed by a surge of unfamiliar information flooding into her mind.
“Ugh… What is this?”
Clutching her forehead, Vania frowned as she spoke. She could clearly perceive what the incoming information entailed.
Steps, stances, techniques, parries, attacks… various principles, various skills, and refined expertise. To her astonishment, Vania realized she had somehow, without instruction, mastered an advanced and profound sword technique.
This phenomenon was explained in terms she had read about in the scripture.
“This… this is divine enlightenment? My Lord… is this your divine revelation to me? Is this your will, that I use this to fend off the enemy?”
After such a wondrous experience, Vania no longer doubted the divinity of her benefactor. At last, she saw a glimmer of hope for her escape.
“This divine revelation is swordsmanship… First, I’ll need a sword. There must be one buried with Lord Dietrich in his crypt!”
Frantically, Vania began searching around for a sword. As a scholar of history, she knew of the legendary “Swift Radiance Sword” Dietrich, who was also known as the Sword Saint Bishop and a master duelist three centuries ago. It was inconceivable that his crypt would lack a sword.
Sure enough, after scanning the room, Vania spotted a sword displayed on a high wall plaque. Rushing over, she found it was out of reach due to her height.
Frustrated, Vania dragged over a nearby box to stand on tiptoe, barely managing to touch the sword. However, her hurried and clumsy movements caused her to lose balance, and she slipped, falling to the ground. The sword fell with her, clattering to the floor.
“Ow… that hurt! Oh no! Is the sword okay? Please don’t let the artifact be damaged!”
Ignoring her own pain, Vania scrambled to check the sword. To her relief, it showed no visible signs of damage.
“Whew… thank goodness…”
“Who’s there?!”
A stern voice suddenly rang out from a neighboring chamber, evidently alarmed by the noise. Rapid footsteps followed, drawing closer.
“They’re coming!”
Hearing the approaching footsteps, Vania hastily picked up the sword. The moment her hand grasped it, the imprinted memories and experiences etched into her soul activated. Instinctively, she straightened her posture, holding the sword in one hand pointed forward in a perfect dueling stance.
It was the memory of the soul.
A man in a white robe and mask entered the crypt, wielding a single-handed mace. He found Vania, dressed in her nun’s attire, holding a sword at the ready.
Although her stance was impeccable, Vania’s face betrayed her anxiety, utterly lacking the composure of a seasoned duelist.
“A surviving blasphemer!”
Upon seeing the nun, the masked man brandished his mace and charged forward. To him, Vania’s panic-stricken expression resembled that of a non-combatant clutching a weapon in desperation.
What he failed to notice was that despite Vania’s distressed face, her sword hand was steady, and her stance was flawless.
The mace swung down with a fierce whistle, aiming for Vania’s head. Though her mind was in chaos, unsure how to react, the muscle memory imprinted on her soul moved before her thoughts could catch up.
With a small sidestep, Vania evaded the attack. Her eyes widened as she caught sight of the man’s exposed weakness.
“There it is… this is my chance!”
Adjusting her footing and shifting her body slightly, Vania maneuvered into the optimal position. Guided by well-honed instincts, she thrust her sword forward, piercing the masked man’s throat with precision.
“What…?”
The man’s eyes widened in disbelief as he collapsed. Watching him fall, Vania’s heart surged with emotion.
“He… he’s dead? I won? I… I killed someone!?”
“Mark, what’s happening in there?!”
Another white-robed man, alerted by the commotion, entered the crypt. Seeing his fallen comrade and Vania with a bloodied sword, he immediately drew a pistol and aimed it at her.
“Die, blasphemer!”
The man fired his weapon. However, guided by the battle instincts etched into her soul, Vania sensed the danger and acted first.
She channeled the spirituality within her, activating the core technique of Laurent Swordsmanship.
Insight.
In that moment, Vania’s thoughts expanded. Time seemed to slow, and her perception broadened to encompass a 360-degree awareness.
She discerned the danger of the gun’s muzzle and visualized the bullet’s trajectory. Then, she moved preemptively.
Bang!
The white-robed man’s pistol fired, and the bullet sped toward Vania. Yet it struck not flesh but steel.
Clang!
A sharp, metallic sound echoed through the chamber. Guided by experience and insight, Vania deflected the bullet with her sword at a precise angle, sending it ricocheting into the wall before it rebounded into the man’s body.
With the spiritual essence of Insight, Vania had executed Laurent Swordsmanship’s ultimate technique: Laurent Insight Blade.
