Chapter 586: No Idea!
Zach hadn't really thought about his Material Extraction the same way Ursula did, but she had a point. He was still a little doubtful about its power. However, if he honed it as he had honed Blessed Defense, it would become a potent tool in his arsenal. One skill for perfect defense and one skill for the annihilation of his target.
He also had one skill that let him reveal the truth of his target and one skill that was completely useless.
"Thank you, Ursula." Zach bowed his head toward Ursual. She had provided him some valuable insight. It was only right that he show his appreciation.
"There's no need for that. You've done so much for this Empire that something as small as this doesn't even count. That's why I would like to tell you about Ozra, but…"
"Yeah, whether it's her or the principal, it's best not to upset either." Zach nodded in understanding. He assumed Ursula didn't want to talk about Ozra because Ozra didn't like to be talked about or because the principal didn't want people talking about his first potential disciple.
There could be a number of reasons for either option. Both could even be true at the same time. But whatever the case, going against the principal's wishes wasn't wise. And Ozra was powerful and wild enough that it wouldn't be wise to offend her, either.
"Something like that." Ursula nodded with a thankful expression. She appreciated Zach's understanding attitude.
"Instead…" But she still wanted to give Zach something. He had already been rewarded for his efforts in the war, but Ursula didn't think that was enough. She also wanted to give him something more useful than a territory he probably wouldn't visit for quite a while.
She waved her hand, and a tiny wooden box appeared in front of her.
Needless to say, it was not the box that was the gift. It was what was inside.
It was a tiny, shiny, metal disk with a light blue hue. It looked like someone had forged a piece of the sky into steel.
Ursula slid it across the table to Zach.
"For you," She said simply.
Zach naturally grabbed the box and looked closely at the disk. He was thankful for the gift, but…
"What is it?" He couldn't help but ask.
Ursula smiled widely.
"I have no idea."
Zach gave her a blank stare.
Ursula was still beaming. If Zach hadn't been used to the beautiful faces of his familiars, he would have fallen hard. The Empress Dowager was beautiful and carried an extraordinary grace with each of her movements. Even something as small as the twitch of an eyebrow or the corner of her lip pulling to the side was entrancing.
Her whole-hearted smile lit up the world. It was the kind of beauty that would bring ruin to kingdoms.
"Ah. I see," He said simply and closed the box.
Ursula giggled.
"To be exact, I have no idea what it does, but I know kind of what it is. It's a piece of Vidrium."
"Vidrium? As in…"
"Yes. It is an alloy created by Vidri. That is the only piece that's not in one of her artificats or other things. There's a few fragments in the Emperor's crown, for example."
"It's pretty valuable, then." Zach's grip on the box didn't change, and he tilted his head as he looked at Ursula.
"But what am I supposed to do with it?" He asked. After the necklace made by Vidri turned out to be useless, he wasn't her biggest fan. But that was probably why Ursula had decided to give the disk to him.
"Whatever you want," She answered, still smiling.
"It's the perfect metal, whether you want to make a necklace, a ring, a gauntlet, a sword, a shield, or a mace. Maybe some armor?"
Zach raised an eyebrow and glanced at Yanael. It was metal. She could probably absorb it with her sword.
"Are you interested in it, Yanael?" He asked.
Ursula was only a little surprised. She knew Zach well enough to know that he wasn't greedy, at least not in the typical meaning of the word. What he wanted, he wanted badly. What he wasn't interested in, he didn't care much about. Still, that piece of Vidrium, if he could find someone who could afford it at its rightful price, could finance the entirety of the East's reconstruction multiple times over.
Zach was willing to give it to his familiar without hesitation.
"A little, but only because it sounds like an interesting material. I have no desire to add it to my sword, Master." Yanael had done a reset on her swordsmanship. Right now, she did not need to strengthen her sword any further. Besides, it had already absorbed a lot from Zach's vault in Haven. The piece of Vidrium would make it stronger, but it wouldn't be a great change.
"Can't you just hold onto it, Zach?" Nessa asked.
Zach shrugged and picked up the disk.
"I suppose." He fished out the necklace from under his shirt. After everything he had been through, it was still unscratched. Ursula's words that the necklace was indestructible seemed to hold some truth to them.
Out of curiosity, he tapped the disk to the amulet. Maybe the two creations of Vidri would react when coming into contact. However, nothing happened.
Zach closed his hand and wrapped the disk around the amulet, giving it a new, light blue layer. Now, he wouldn't lose it or forget it.
Nessa glanced at Ursula.
"Is—is Vidrium soft in that state?" She asked. It hadn't looked soft until Zach did that to it.
Ursula slowly shook her head. It was a thin plate, but it was still harder than steel.
"Thank you, I guess, Ursula," Zach said after stuffing the necklace back under his shirt and standing up.
"I would love to chat some more, but we have some business to attend to."
Ursula had expected it when she heard Zach was coming to visit her as soon as he woke up.
The young man was not going to rest. She followed them out.
"Take care of yourself, Zach. I want to see you grow old."
"Haha!"
