Divine Harem: My Sect of Heavenly Beauties

Chapter 260: Revenge or Freedom

Slaves were never given a choice. They were enslaved against their will and then sold against their will. They couldn't choose the master they wanted to serve.

Never once in their life as a slave would they be given the chance to choose anything.

It was all true, and Qiao Long knew it too. So now that he was given a chance to finally choose his life, he was stumped for a moment.

'Is this how we're guided in the next life? Or maybe my thoughts of revenge are holding me back in this life?'

Qiao Long thought.

His guess was that he was going to die, but his will for revenge was holding him back. So, whatever or whoever controlled life and death was giving him an option.

He could stay in this life and struggle for revenge, or forsake all of it for a new life where everything would be different.

He became hesitant.

As he closed his eyes, the memories of his torture flashed through his mind. The pain he had endured was still vivid, as if he was reliving every moment.

All of that—for what? Just because a kid wanted to practice her techniques. What had he done to deserve that?

They were the ones who had killed and burned his whole village before taking them in as slaves. They never even considered them as humans.

He hated them to the core and had sworn to take revenge if he ever got the opportunity.

Yet, this paper was telling him to forget it all for a new life. How could he do that? How could he forget the scars on his soul and body left behind by years of torture?

'But what's the point of it all?'

There was little chance of him getting revenge. Even if he was blinded by his hatred, he still understood reality. Because of the slave collar, he couldn't even go against his masters—so how would he take revenge?

The chances of escaping were low, and the chances of becoming powerful enough to take revenge were even smaller. He knew all of that, yet he still desired vengeance.

Then, an image of his parents flashed through his mind. He remembered the time when they played together in the fields, living a simple yet happy life.

Years of torture had made him forget their faces, but he still remembered their backs and their voices. Their sweet, warm, and loving voices still echoed in his ears.

"Listen closely, Little Long. The world is cruel, but you still need to live a good life. Never become blind in worldly matters and forget what you actually want."

"What I actually want..."

Qiao Long closed his eyes as he asked himself what he truly desired. Was it revenge, or was it a life where he could live with freedom and choose his own path?

He finally had the chance to choose—wasn't that the very thing he had always wanted?

'Haha! What's the point of revenge if it makes my life a living hell? Why should I suffer just to make others suffer?'

Qiao Long chuckled softly. He had made his decision—to live a good life, far away from all of this.

Did he forget his revenge? Of course not. If he ever got the chance, he would absolutely slaughter the entire Feng Clan.

It was just that he prioritized his life over his hatred. If taking revenge meant continuing the miserable existence he was living, then there was simply no point.

Having made his decision, Qiao Long tried to sit up, but his wounds made it almost impossible. However, he didn't give up. The pain was nothing compared to what he had endured up until now.

If enduring a little pain meant freedom, who wouldn't endure it?

Gritting his teeth against the pain, he finally managed to lift himself up enough to reach the paper. Since his hands still weren't working, he simply bit the corner of the paper while thinking.

"Take me to the portal. Take me to my new life."

He half-expected nothing to happen, as if everything would vanish, and he would realize it was all just a hallucination. But it was real.

The paper glowed brightly before disintegrating into countless small golden particles. The particles surrounded Qiao Long, lifting him up from his makeshift grass bed.

Qiao Long began hovering in the air, slowly approaching the golden portal. It felt like a dream, but the pain in his body reminded him that this was his reality—his choice.

Soon, he passed through the golden portal and appeared on the other side.

Opening his eyes, he was greeted by a vast hall adorned in red and black. A dark, soft mattress was beneath his feet, while intricate paintings hung on the white and red walls.

"W-What is this?"

Qiao Long instinctively took a step back, frightened by the sheer vastness of the hall. But then he realized something and looked down. His eyes widened in shock as he saw his new appearance.

He was completely healed from head to toe. There were no injuries or wounds left behind. No longer was he clad in a torn tunic. In its place, he wore a long white robe tied by a red sash at his waist.

It was comfortable—something he never thought he would experience again.

"What now? Is this the afterlife? Will someone come to get me?"

Footsteps echoed behind him, causing him to turn around. A figure clad in black was approaching him. Instinctively, he took a step back and asked,

"W-Who are you?"

The figure stopped a short distance away and answered in a gender-neutral voice,

"Fear not, for our Master has saved you. Wait for a few more minutes, and we will explain everything. Until then, you may enjoy yourself."

The figure gestured toward the top right corner of the hall, where a long table was adorned with a variety of delicacies.

Seeing the food, Qiao Long couldn't help but lick his lips in hunger.

"You don't need to stand on ceremony," the figure continued. "The food is prepared for everyone who arrives here, just as you did. So go ahead and enjoy yourself."
