Chapter 37: -Chapter 37-
...
"TK!"
Matt had suddenly moved to the little blond boy's side giving him a tight hug, fearing that releasing him would make him disappear again. Instead TK's eyes widened like saucers as he looked at the person hugging him with surprise, several feelings met at the same time in the little blond boy's heart.
Finally, with a small cry of relief and joy, TK hugged his brother back feeling small tears forming in the corners of his eyes. "B-Brother?!"
Trying to keep his expression as serious as possible, and failing miserably, Matt looked into his brother's eyes with a huge smile. Feeling as if all the stress and guilt of the past few months had suddenly eased, Matt had to take a deep breath to keep the tears of joy off his face.
Bringing his hands to TK's shoulders, Matt proceeded to examine his little brother very carefully looking for any damage. But to his relief, there was nothing he could see with the naked eye. "Oh God! TK...are-are you okay?"
Matt's brain began to spin. After imagining reuniting with his brother for weeks in a myriad of scenarios, both good and bad, Matt thought such a reunion wouldn't affect him that much, but now he found himself speechless and looking at TK with glassy eyes.
"Brother, I'm fine! R-Really!" TK exclaimed with a small embarrassed blush on his face, but even then, a bright smile remained plastered on his face. "I... uhm, I didn't know you were here! Piximon said there were only a couple of Noah's friends!"
Matt couldn't help but raise an eyebrow before looking suspiciously at the large wolf, who was lounging lazily in the corner of the room, surveying the scene with obvious disdain on his face.
Realizing that Matt was glaring at him in anger, BlackGarurumon shook his head slightly as he let out a growl while glaring at another figure in the room. "Don't look at me, it wasn't my idea."
Following BlackGarurumon's gaze, Matt looked at an unusually cheerful fairy who was letting out affectionate noises and guffaws in droves. It was then that he noticed how everyone in the room was looking at them with pleased smiles on their faces.
"Hihihi! Did you like the surprise, Ma-boy! Pi! It was hard to hide from him that you were here, you know?! Pi!"
The blond boy seriously considered Digievolving Gabumon just to wipe that smirk off Piximon's face, in the end, he dismissed that thought in favor of talking to his brother after months.
When he turned around, Matt could only blink in bewilderment to see that at some point, Mimi had taken his brother from his arms and was now holding him with a loving gaze, as if she had gotten a new toy.
"So you're Matt's grumpy little brother? You're a cutie!" Mimi exclaimed with a squeal as she poked TK's soft cheeks with her fingers.
TK's face began to redden, but he still managed to respond with a shy smile. "M-My name is Takeru! But my friends call me TK!"
It was at that time that Matt noticed a small, orange, odd-looking creature a little ways behind TK. "You're TK's partner, aren't you?"
Patamon blinked twice before fixing his gaze on Matt with a slight surprise. He had been so focused on all the new faces and TK that he had completely forgotten his surroundings.
"Y-Yes! My name is Patamon!" Exclaimed the little Digimon with a friendly smile before tilting his head curiously. "You're TK's brother, aren't you? You look just like him! TK is always talking about you!"
"Hehe, yeah, we do look a bit alike..." Matt the scratched his head as he tried to hide a small smile, knowing his brother had been talking about him. Coughing into his fist, the older blond looked at Patamon awkwardly. "Anyway, I wanted to thank you for...you know."
Patamon simply looked at the blonde in confusion as the latter forced the words out of his mouth.
Matt let out a sigh as he ran a hand down his neck and averted his gaze. "Thanks for taking care of TK, it must not have been easy with Etemon out there and all those super strong Digimon... so, uh, thanks a lot for protecting him."
That was another thing that scared Matt at first when Gennai's old man had told them that the Server Continent had Digimons stronger than Devimon. At the time, it had seemed like an impossible thing considering how ridiculously strong Devimon was in the first place, and just the thought of his brother possibly being in such a place was enough to give Matt nightmares.
But TK was in one piece despite being in a rather dangerous place, and he could only be grateful to Patamon for this. Although Matt wouldn't say it out loud, he vowed to repay Patamon in some way for keeping his younger brother safe.
However, to Matt's confusion, Patamon quickly shook his head as he smiled awkwardly and his eyes looked at a point across the room. "I, uh, well, I wasn't the one who protected TK exactly."
Patamon's comment caused Matt to blink in confusion as a literal question mark appeared on the blond's head.
Matt frowned before crossing his arms in an intimidating pose, oh well, intimidating to the little Digimon which let out a small squeak. In truth this was the pose he used with TK when he wanted him to tell the truth about something, it seemed to work quite well on his Digimon for some reason. "What do you mean it wasn't you who protected TK? Aren't you supposed to be his partner?"
Patamon's ears flopped back against the ground as he grimaced. He didn't need to be reminded of how useless he had been over the past few months. "Y-Yes I am, but it wasn't me taking care of him all the time, in fact, it was only recently that I've fought other Digimons..."
Matt hummed thoughtfully before shooting a glance at the lazy wolf who was talking to a mischievous pink fairy. "So it was BlackGarurumon and Piximon that protected TK?"
Patamon again shook his head, though this time he seemed hesitant on how to answer.
"I guess technically BlackGarurumon hasn't protected, he has helped us on countless occasions, but I feel he feels obligated to protect us rather than because he wants to protect us" Explained the orange Digimon as he took a quick glance at the wolf before looking back at the fairy. "And Piximon we've only known him for a few weeks, so... no, they weren't."
"The one who protected TK for all these months was-"
Suddenly, all the Children's Digivice glowed with a faint white light before a series of messages appeared right in front of each Chosen One.

In the deepest part of the pyramid, in a room unknown to its own conqueror, two figures could be seen reclining on long, strange chairs made of stone with several wires connected to it.
These chairs seemed to emit a faint blue glow from strange hieroglyphic-like symbols carved into the corners.
On top of one of the chairs, you could see an unconscious little silver colored hedgehog, which was almost completely surrounded by wires, preventing its release.
On the other chair was the unconscious figure of a slightly tanned boy dressed in a white shirt with yellow sleeves and black shorts. In his hand, he clutched tightly a strange sky-blue device which on its screen emitted a flashing red glow.
However, from time to time the hedgehog seemed to glow with a small golden light, which was quickly absorbed by the wires and carried to a large computer. Similarly, in the boy's pocket, a very small golden light was absorbed by the wires.
Suddenly, a strange beeping sound from the boy's device echoed in the silent room for a few seconds before going silent again.
But this time, the boy's device was not on.
