DEVIL'S advocate

Chapter 2: The Oath

On that day I lost my sister,my family and my life, I started living in the woods all by myself, sometimes mike comes to visit and my mom usually brings food without my father knowledge. so I swore to avenge my sister and hunt all Devil's until the day my body gives up.

A spark of determination ignited within me. I would prove myself no matter the cost.

The gentle gurgle of the river, the soft rustle of leaves, and the creaking of tree branches had become my lullaby, "I stirred, my eyes snapping open to the familiar sight of the forest canopy above, the morning light filtering through the leaves."The air was crisp, filled with the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers. A bird chirped in the distance, its melody blending with the soothing sounds of the forest. As I sat up, the warm sunlight danced across my skin, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor."I took a deep breath, feeling the familiar ache in my chest, a reminder of what I'd lost and what I sought to reclaim."My eyes narrowed, focusing on the task ahead. Today was a new day, a new chance to take a step closer to my revenge."

I set off towards the village, my feet carrying me along the familiar dirt path. As I walked, the trees grew closer together, and the sounds of the forest gave way to the murmur of human voices. I approached the village, my senses on high alert. As I entered the village, I noticed the villagers' eyes on me. Some of them whispered to each other, their faces filled with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. I recognized a few of them, but they looked at me differently now.

One of the villagers, a young boy, pointed at me and asked, "Momma, is that the Devil's son?" His mother hushed him, but I could sense the fear and uncertainty emanating from them.An elderly woman approached me, her eyes narrowed. "You're the one who's been living in the woods, aren't you?" she asked, her voice laced with suspicion. "Some say you're a Devil in disguise."I ignored her comment, my focus on finding Mike. "I'm looking for Mike starseeker,He's hard to miss - tall, with piercing blue eyes and jet-black hair that always seems to be perfectly messy. He's got a scar above his left eyebrow from a fall and he often wears a worn leather jacket with intricate star patterns embroidered on the sleeves."

" I said, scanning the crowd. "Have any of you seen him?"The villagers exchanged uneasy glances, and one of them nodded towards the village tavern. "You might find him there."I nodded and headed towards the tavern, the villagers' whispers and suspicious glances following me like a shadow.

As I walked towards the tavern, a gentle touch on my arm stopped me. I turned to see a young woman, her eyes cast downward. "You're the one," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "The seer has sent me for you."

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What seer?"

The woman didn't answer, instead beckoning me to follow her. We navigated through the village, avoiding the curious glances of the villagers. We stopped in front of a small, unassuming hut on the outskirts of the village.

The woman pushed open the door, revealing a dimly lit interior. A figure sat cross-legged on a mat, her eyes closed as if in meditation. But what caught my attention was the milky white color of her eyes - she was blind.

"Oh, young one," she said, her voice low and soothing. "I have been expecting you. You are the one with the fire in your heart, the one who seeks revenge against the Devils."I was taken aback. How did she know? "How can you see me?" I asked, gesturing to her closed eyes.

The seer smiled. "I may not see with my eyes, but I see with my heart. And I sense that you are driven by a burning desire for justice."

She paused, her expression turning serious. "But to achieve your goal, you must first make an oath. An oath to uphold the balance, to protect the innocent, and to vanquish the Devils."

I hesitated, unsure of what to do. The seer's words echoed in my mind, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty.

"Wait," I said, turning to the seer. "How do you know I'm the one? You're blind, aren't you?"

The seer smiled, her expression unwavering. "I may not see with my eyes, but I see with my heart. And my heart tells me that you are the one."

"But...how do I look like?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.

The seer's smile grew wider. "You have hair as black as the night sky, messy and unkempt, like a wild tangle of darkness. Your eyes burn with an inner fire, a fierce determination that cannot be tamed. They are like two stars shining bright in the darkness."

I felt a shiver run down my spine as the seer continued. "Your skin is tanned and weathered, like the leather of a well-worn saddle. Your jaw is set, your lips pressed together in a firm line, like a warrior preparing for battle."

I was taken aback by the seer's description. It was as if she had seen me with her own eyes, despite her blindness."How...how do you know all this?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. The seer's smile grew wider. "I told you, I see with my heart. And my heart tells me that you are the one, the chosen one, destined for greatness."I felt a surge of emotion, a mix of wonder, fear, and excitement. What did the seer's words mean? What lay ahead for me?The seer's voice brought me back to the present. "Now, will you make the oath?"

I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. 'I'll make the oath,' I said, my voice firm. The seer smiled, her eyes closed in satisfaction. 'Then let us begin,' she said, beckoning me closer.

I stepped forward, feeling a strange energy building up inside me. The seer raised her hands, and I felt a surge of power flow through me.

'By the ancient powers that bind and protect,' the seer began, her voice chanting in a hypnotic rhythm. 'I call upon the spirits of old to witness this oath.'

I repeated the words after her, feeling the energy build up to a crescendo.

'What is your oath?' the seer asked, her eyes snapping open.I took a deep breath. 'I swear to hunt down the Devils and avenge my sister's death,' I said, my voice shaking with emotion. The seer nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "The seer's smile seemed to hold a secret, her eyes closed as if savoring a moment of triumph. 'Then let us begin,' she whispered, her voice dripping with an otherworldly authority. I stepped forward, feeling the weight of my oath settling upon me like a physical burden. The air seemed to thicken, the shadows cast by the flickering candles twisting into menacing shapes. I sensed that I was crossing a threshold, leaving behind the familiarity of my forest home and entering a realm of ancient magic and forgotten lore."

I knew in that moment that my life would never be the same again."

The seer's eyes snapped open, and she nodded in satisfaction. "The oath is made. May the spirits guide and protect you." With a gentle wave of her hand, the meeting was disbanded.I stood up, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. As I turned to leave, I noticed a familiar figure waiting outside - Mike Starseeker. His piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, and he nodded in greeting."Mike," I said, falling into step beside him. "What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing," he replied, his voice low and even. "But I think I already know. You're in this deep, aren't you?" I nodded, and Mike's expression turned serious. "Let's get out of here. We can talk in the woods."

We walked in silence, the village giving way to the familiar trees and underbrush of the forest. As we walked, the scent of roasting meat and freshly baked bread wafted through the air, making my stomach growl with hunger.Mike smiled. "I think your mom beat us to it."We emerged into a small clearing, and there she was - my mom, surrounded by a spread of food and drink. Her eyes lit up with warmth as she saw me, and she hurried over to hug me tightly.

"Be careful, okay?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "I don't want to lose you too."I hugged her back, feeling a lump form in my throat. "I will, Mom. I promise."As we ate and talked, the forest seemed to grow darker, the shadows deepening. I knew that I had a long and difficult road ahead of me, but with Mike and my mom by my side, I felt a sense of hope that I hadn't felt in a long time.

And as we finished our meal and prepared to part ways, I knew that I was ready for whatever lay ahead.

Bring it on!. I whispered to myself ready to face whatever lays ahead.
