Book 2 Chapter Sixteen; the Second Floor of the Ocean Temple
Jazmel winced as a spear skimmed his ribs and he bent his body away from another attack. Jazmel felt the pain of it and sighed with the affliction within. The mermaid who struck him, withdrew another spear but Tera Nema who was fighting beside him blasted Mana into the face of the merman. Fire beneath the ocean was a rare thing and the light and heat of the arcane Mana from her wand struck it fiercely in the face. It fell to the ground melting and squealing. In pain, it was a new thing as the fish averted this body and it fell to the ground before floating up slowly to the ceiling.
They had made it to the second floor and the mermen were fighting fiercely. Long muscular fish tails were propelling them through the water towards them and Jazmel and the four girls were carving a bloody swathe through these CORRUPTED beings of the temple.
Few fish were privy to this part of the attack, but the attacks were far fiercer, Jazmel took a spear to the shoulder and then the chest. But Tera Nema was beside him and killed the attacker. He chugged a potion and pulled the spears from his body. The next attack he feinted to the right and waved his sword, pushing against the lag of water. He cut through three large torsos, and they floated around him.
DING!
TIER II CORRUPTED MERMEN X10 KILLED
SHADOW WRAITH SLUMBERS BUT HUNGERS
CONSUME?
He accepted and his shadow erupted, pulling the corpses into its darkness, and scaring the girls.
“It is a skill!” he explained, waving his arms and Tera Nema looked at him confused.
TIER II MERMEN X5 CONSUMED
TIER II OCEANIC SPEAR X3 COLLECTED
TIER II MERMAN PEARLS X23 COLLECTED
TIER I UNCORRUPTED CORRAL X3 COLLECTED
The system pinged off new additions to his storage but for now he fought on. The landing they were fighting on would bring them up to the third floor of the temple. But the grand landing had two openings to the east and west wings of the temple. This was funnelling the mermaids as they came, and Jazmel and Tera Nema fought with their backs to her party members. They held the west while Jazmel fought off the east.
“We just need to run up the stairs!” Morwen shouted.
Jazmel agreed, but he was not sure if the mermen and their soldiers would follow him. If they did, they would be overwhelmed by these tier II creatures and the possibility of other tier II stronger creatures above.
“We need to go now!” grace yelled as she swung her sword and cleaved through more forces.
Tera Nema took the initiative and ran up the steps, Jazmel followed her and fought while the others backstepped up the stairs slowly. Once they were on the last step of the first floor, the mermen stopped. Railing and banging against an unseen force that was blocking them from ascending the steps.
“Now we know they cannot follow us while we ascend.” Morwen confirmed and everyone agreed.
“Rest quickly, we move in five minutes.” Tera Nema told everyone, Jazmel nodded and sat to check his notifications.

He was getting stronger again too, travelling alone had been a tremendous help, though he missed his party. He was not going to pretend that he had not seen the benefits of it.
“We are moving on, everyone ready?” Tera Nema asked, and Jazmel used his scabbarded sword to stand back up.
