Chapter 301: Official Invitation
Strax descended the stairs of Scarlet's mansion with a calm step, trying to enjoy a rare moment of peace after the chaos of the previous night. The house was silent, and he could hear the echo of his own footsteps on the grand marble staircase. The corridors were wide and imposing, with old tapestries on the walls and refined furniture, as if luxury was embedded in every corner of the mansion.
He was a little tired, after all... Daniela had played with him a lot, but the day was beginning, and he knew that sooner or later, the drama that always accompanied his life would resurface. However, Strax was determined to make this morning a moment of calm, without confrontations or arguments. Maybe, just maybe, he could drink his favorite beverage and spend the rest of the day resting.
But fate seemed to have other plans.
Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, he saw his wives. Cassandra, Belatrix, and Scarlet were sitting, almost waiting for him, their expressions of pure expectation filling the air with an unmistakable tension. They had their eyes fixed on Strax, and he felt that something was... different.
Cassandra was the first to speak, her voice soft but carrying a tone Strax immediately recognized. "Darling, it took you longer than usual to come down. I was starting to think about coming to get you..."
Strax let out a faint laugh and gave a sideways smile. "You know how it is, the night was long. Needed a bit of rest and a good bath." He tried to approach, but the look the three women gave him made him stop halfway. Something was wrong.
Before he could process what was happening, Belatrix, with her impetuous attitude, stood up from her chair and looked directly at Strax, narrowing her eyes. "Strax..." She said, her voice filled with a suspicious tone. "You smell different today. Almost like... something familiar?"
"Me? Smell familiar?" Strax asked, sensing that something was wrong. He tried to maintain his composure, but the way they were acting made his spine tingle a little. "This is ridiculous. What are you..."
Before he could finish, Scarlet, who had been sitting calmly watching, stood up so quickly that Strax barely had time to react. She stood tall, her expression a mix of anger and... something else. "You... you did something with Daniela, didn't you? I can smell her on you!" Scarlet's voice was rougher than usual, and Strax felt the pressure intensifying around him.
'Huh? Why is she angry?'
Cassandra looked intently at her husband, her gaze sharp like a blade. "Don't tell me you..." She paused, as if absorbing every word. "Don't tell me you went after Daniela... again. Strax, you can't be serious!"
Now aware that he had been caught, Strax raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Guys, calm down! It's not what you're thinking! I mean, yeah, it was her who came after me, but wait!" He tried to explain himself, but seeing their expressions, he knew there was no way out of this easily.
"Are you really trying to lie to us?" Belatrix crossed her arms with a mischievous smile, but her eyes were clearly furious. "What else are we supposed to think when you show up smelling like you've been rolling in bed with Daniela?" She couldn't help but laugh, but her tone was far from playful.
'Why are they so upset about this? Isn't it normal?'
Strax sighed deeply and ran a hand through his hair, trying to deal with the situation. He knew he couldn't escape this, but at least he could try. "Okay, okay, is that it then? You guys are jealous?" He tried to focus on the humor of the situation, hoping to ease the tension.
The three women exchanged looks, clearly more irritated than anything else, but when Scarlet stepped forward and looked at Strax with a piercing gaze, he knew he was in trouble. "Jealous? JEALOUS? Strax, do you have any idea what this is like for us?" Scarlet said, her voice barely concealing her frustration. "That slut skipped the line!"
'Line?'
Strax shuddered slightly at Scarlet's words, and for a moment, he thought he might have gotten himself into an even more complicated situation than he had imagined. "Line?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow, trying to understand what she meant.
Scarlet, with her arms crossed and a severe expression on her face, stared directly at him as if expecting a reaction. "Yes, Strax. A line. You know very well that when it comes to us, there's an order, an understanding." She pointed to herself. "I'm the first, the mother, the oldest. Cassandra is second, Daniela is third, and Belatrix is the last." She paused dramatically, and her gaze intensified. "That slut skipped the line!"
"..."
Strax couldn't even continue thinking... "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Strax began to laugh uncontrollably, a loud and intense laugh that echoed through the room, causing the three women to look at him with a mix of surprise and frustration. He held his stomach, unable to stop, his eyes gleaming with the absurdity of the situation he found himself in.
"You're laughing at this, Strax?" Cassandra asked in a threatening voice, which only made Strax's laughter increase even more.
"Yes! Yes, of course I am!" Strax managed to recover enough to speak, still laughing at the situation. "You're arguing... about a line?" He shook his head, tears running from the corners of his eyes. "Is that what's happening here?"
Scarlet, her face red with anger, extended her hand as if she were about to strike him, but Belatrix, who had been quiet until then, stopped her with a gesture.
"If you keep hitting him, you'll end up killing him," Belatrix said with a twisted smile.
"Humpf! Idiot!" Scarlet said... honestly, she looked more like a lovesick girl than the ruthless, strong woman she usually was...
"Okay, okay, let's get back to it. I'll give you some affection later, okay? Now, it seems like the Strange Maid wants to say something," Strax said, glancing towards the entrance of the room where the woman was waiting with a tray and a letter.
"Thank you for your help, Master Strax." Aria bowed slightly and went towards Scarlet. "This letter arrived for Mistress." She said, extending the tray for Scarlet to take the letter.
Scarlet took the letter with a curious look, but her eyes soon narrowed as she saw what was written.
She unfolded the letter calmly, but as her eyes scanned the words, a look of disbelief overtook her face. Strax, still with a mischievous smile, observed every movement she made, and soon everyone in the room's curiosity was piqued.
"Scarlet... What does the letter say?" Belatrix asked, taking a step forward, clearly intrigued.
Scarlet, still holding the letter, looked at the paper as if it were almost... offensive. She didn't say anything for a few moments, before finally speaking, her voice laden with sarcasm and a slightly ironic tone.
"Elizabeth Tepes..." She said the name as if she were chewing each syllable. "Inviting the Vermilion Family to a formal dinner." She paused, her gaze fixed on the letter. "But... here's the best part... she ends with a 'PS: Bring your weapons, we're going to fight.'" Scarlet looked at Strax, her gaze burning with irritation, mixed with a touch of amusement. "This slut wants to fight me?" Scarlet smiled before letting out a laugh...
"HAHAHAHAHAHA I THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE, BUT SHE REALLY WANTS TO HAHAHAHAHA!" Scarlet couldn't contain a low laugh at hearing that, she had to shout.
"Looks like she's willing to turn this into a spectacle, huh?" Strax commented with a mischievous smile. He crossed his arms, finding the situation funny, but at the same time, he knew things could quickly spiral out of control. Elizabeth, with her imposing personality, wouldn't invite anyone without a reason behind it. "And you, Scarlet? Will you accept the fight?"
Scarlet stared at the letter for a few more seconds, her eyes glowing with a mix of anger and excitement. She was obviously controlling herself, but Strax knew her well enough to know she was about to explode at any moment.
"I never back down from a challenge," Scarlet replied with a calmness that only heightened the suspense. She looked at the others, who were eager for her reaction. "Elizabeth dares to challenge me like this, so... of course I accept."
"Aren't you going to get upset that she included a 'bring your weapons'?" Cassandra asked, her voice skeptical but also curious.
"I expected that, Cassandra," Scarlet replied, her gaze cold. "She's always been like this—provocative and full of theatrics. But this... this is personal. I will go to her and show her who the real authority in this game is."
Strax could feel the energy in the room shift completely. The atmosphere was thick, and he knew that this was just the beginning of something bigger. Elizabeth Tepes didn't do anything without a reason, and her invitation was clearly a provocation, a direct challenge to Scarlet. But he also knew that Scarlet couldn't back down from this. It was as if her very honor was at stake.
"Well, it seems like we're in for an interesting evening," Strax commented with a sardonic smile, looking at the three women.
