Demon King Who Will Rule the Infinite Worlds

Chapter 30: Chapter 30 - Working Together

"Over this way, take everything inside," Aerith waved her hand, moving the line of students carrying a bunch of food, from instant noodles to daily necessities, everything that could be found in Convenience Store. There was a store around the corner from the school, which they looted to store food here, along with all the electronic appliances.

Everything was going down in the basement for storage. The least she could do was use Aura to freeze the walls of the basement to keep everything cold. While it was happening, she heard a commotion coming from where the bus was parked a few minutes before. Shizuka and Tifa had gone to pick any survivors that Cloud and Saeko might have found in the school, for that they took the bus.

She curiously hopped over to check what was going on, hearing the shouts of Rei Miyamoto, "keep dreaming you asshole! Don't think I don't know what you did!"

"Rei, calm down," one of the boys tried to hold her back, but her boyfriend stopped him.

"Takashi, let her. He's evil."

"Come on student, is this how you should be talking to your teacher? I am only saying that we need a proper distribution for food and who better than your teacher who has experience with management and is fair that he would pass the job on to?" a glasses-wearing man, Shido Koichi with black hair, parting to his left poke.

Shido Koichi had an important position in the school. His father was a politician and carrying his name was enough to make him more important than any other teachers.

"This property isn't yours, you didn't drive the bus, you didn't help us carry the items. You have neither right nor a reason for trying to set yourself at the top," Hisashi Igou cut him off. Rei's sharp gaze was enough to cut him, but he merely sneered.

He adjusted his tie, "then how are you going to keep all these students in the house? Are you going to send them to fight zombies? There was only a bunch of dead inside the campus before! Are you going to keep the students outside where the zombies are?! Do you want to hog the food and use these poor students as buffers?! I won't let that happen!"

Rei clenched her jaw, hearing the whispers from the scared students who thought they'd be put in danger, "You bastard! You are the most corrupted person I've ever met! You want me to believe that you will be fair! You piece of!"

"Stop it, all of you," Aerith ran over, gripping Rei's arm, stopping her from continuing this fight.

"Finally, someone with sense," Shido narrowed his eyes, "Don't you think so too, Miss? That a teacher who knows his student the best should be in charge?"

Aerith stuck out her tongue, "try it, when Cloud comes back he's going to beat you up."

That made Shido flinch, not for long though. Two boys, one of them looking like a delinquent walked behind him, holding baseball bats. He smirked, "Not if we have you helping us. He won't attack you, would he?"

"You are crazy! They saved you," Takashi found it unbelievable how much of an ass this teacher was being. Even now Cloud, Saeko, Tifa and Shizuka-sensei were taking the risk to save people in the school while this guy wanted to be left in charge of food while others were fighting.

"Shut up, Takashi! Don't you see that Sensei is doing this for our sake!" The yellow-haired delinquent shouted at him, while Shido simply smiled seeing how smoothly it was going.

It was like an archaic world now. Strength and ability alone, no matter how good, won't protect them. They'd need shelter and food. Something this young girl, as lovely as a flower in a sea of concrete and dead, didn't understand.

"Aerith, Hisashi and Takashi will hold them here. Get a gun and shoot him!" Rei angrily growled.

BANG

She only said to bring a gun to threaten them, but she didn't expect someone would actually shoot at the man she despised. It was a moment of disbelief, horror, fear. The students screamed and stepped back, while Shido nearly fell back on his butt. He breathed heavily, his ears ringing.

"Don't worry, I have the guns, they can't to anything," Kohta Hirano, the slightly fat boy wearing glasses, held onto a pistol he fired. He maliciously grinned and pointing the pistol at Shido, "I am not going to miss next time," he stressed the next word that left his mouth, "SEN-SEI."

"You! How dare you shoot at me!" Shido scowled when a woman wearing a hoody in this season walked out of the house, her head covered by the hood, her legs covered in stockings. All they could see of her head were golden hair falling to her chest along with her chin and lips.

"Behave," her voice rang in their ears, soothing many of the students, making their heart beat faster, "No one is going to be fodder for zombies. Cloud, Tifa, Saeko, and Hirano will be guarding from four directions at night to keep us safe. We'll use what we find to make a temporary fence. You'll have to sleep on the grass or cloth of any kind we can find before night falls. If we get time, we will go to the nearest building and clear the zombies so you can find a house to live in and decide what you want to do. If you want, a group can take each floor. The houses would have rationed to help you through the month. The government should be able to help you by then."

"You can either be helpful with the preparation so we can clear a building with zombies by tonight. Or you can make trouble and sleep outside in fear of the zombies. You decide."

"She's right," one of the students whispered.

"They have done so much to keep us safe already. It's only fair," the other nodded, convinced she was being truthful.

"Cloud-san saved me," one of the students walked forward, "I believe him. How can we help!"

"Yeah, me too! Him and Saeko-san can clear the zombies in no time! We can sleep in houses and live there until government helps us!"

"I don't want to sleep outside tonight.'

"Cloud and Saeko-san won't let us down!" One student after the other spoke.

"How do we help?"

"Everyone," Aerith raised her arm, waving, "Whoever wants to help come to me! If you have any helpful information, then tell me first. Any sharp objects you brought to school. Anything that can be used like a weapon! Also, who knows how to cook!"

"The government can't do anything," Shido pointed at her, shouting at her face but not stepping close enough, "they aren't even gonna save us. If anything, they will rob us like those thugs, take everything away, then give us food grains enough for weeks. If they even come," he turned away from the group of students and the four that remained with him, "those who know what is good and fair are welcomed with me. As the only teacher left alive, you kid should listen to me."

"Are you saying we shouldn't believe in the nation's greatest authority, but believe in your authority as the teacher? Don't you think that's a little...what's the world," Saya Takagi walked out of the house, her arms crossed, a smug, mocking smile on her lips, "Ah right. Greediness is too high of a compliment for you. Just plain old megalomania."

Koichi Shido glared at her from behind. How dare she say that out loud, in front of these students...and her posture showed that she wasn't afraid of anything, not zombies...not him.

"Ignore him," Aerith waved her hand, "those who want to help come over!"

Soon the students moved in hoards towards them. They were easily reaching a hundred in numbers, all because of Saeko slaughtering the zombies as fast as possible.

Takashi, Rei, Hisashi, and Kohta were also quick to be a part of the preparations, the most efficient group among their peers. Eve went back inside the house, followed by Saya Takagi, who carried a frown on her face, "he's going to make trouble."

"Not as much trouble as it would make if we use our powers to deal with him," Eve removed the hood, hiding on the side of the window to look outside, "Or I remove my hood in front of them."

She tucked her golden hair behind her ear, noticing the mesmerised look in Saya's eyes. Eve smiled at her, causing the pink-haired girl to break out of her trance with a small blush on her cheeks, "at moments like these, when people's emotions are high...I cause their scales to tip towards recklessness and bad choices."

"It's best if we wait for them to come back..." Eve looked at the horizon where the sun was high, "We have time before sun falls."

"Yeah," Saya crossed her arms, "Do you think...my Mom and Dad..."

"They should be fine," Eve reassured the girl, taking her hand, "We know who is behind this disaster. Before this happened, we were preparing for them, including your father. He has an arsenal in his backyard to deal with them the moment they use a chemical or biological weapon..."

"You didn't expect this...?"

"Who could believe they'd be crazy enough to destroy the world," Eve sighed, "No one expected this."

"Yeah...makes sense," Saya pulled the hood over Eve's head, having her wear a black mask that covered her face. A few students entered the house, taking some school bags down to the basement.

It took an hour before Cloud, Saeko and Tifa returned, by then, the group of students had already prepared lunch for everyone to eat. The three of them directly went to the attic where they found Eve hiding, looking out from the small window.

"You brought back more survivors."

"Not many," Tifa hugged Eve's arm, "sadly...can't we do anything?"

"We are only Newborn Demons. We aren't even Phase 2 yet..." Eve looked at the storm of deadly, dangerous aura moving towards the sky, like a dark river flowing across the world, "we'd die if we touch something like that..."

"Taking out Umbrella should do it. We need to find their base and kill them," Cloud suggested.

"No need, Sir Aransae should be enough to deal with Umbrella. Now that Umbrella doesn't have any hostages, they can't defend themselves. We need to make a settlement that can't be broken or destroyed by zombies, so there is some hope for people in the future. And defend it, in case these shoot off groups from Umbrella try to gain control of it," Eve shook her head, "it's best if we can manage to awaken a few people's demons, hoping the world bestows a blessing to one of its own. For their survival."

"How do we do that?" Saeko tilted her head. She wanted her demon to grow stronger.

"For now, we clear a building nearby for them to live. From tomorrow, we reshape the area around us and turn it into a settlement. With this much aura surging in the world, while untouchable, should provide a boost to anyone with aura," Eve placed her hand on the window, "Are you guys tired?"

"No. They are just walking target," Cloud turned around, "I'll deal with them."

Saeko bowed towards her, following Cloud, and then Tifa kissed Eve's cheek, "we'll be back."

"Careful," Eve whispered, watching them leave. She returned to the stool, staring at the hundredth painting she made of the grey, circular pit with a black circular hole at the centre, spreading cracks in the swirling grey, "World...Mom...help me understand...what do I do with this? If only I could remember..."
