Defying the Rogue Alpha

Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Ava groaned at the instant flash of sunlight in her face. She could smell black coffee. Her calves were aching badly from all the dancing on heels last night. She had fun; she would even classify it as happy. She had almost forgotten what happiness meant.

When she finally opened her eyes, she found Alpha Lucas standing beside the bed, holding a steaming cup of coffee and a large hoodie in the other. His presence was suffocating even early in the morning.

Ava pushed herself up on her elbows. "Did you kill me? Is this my heaven where you get to serve me coffee?"

Lucas grunted in frustration. "Would you be so mouthy if you were dead?" He muttered, setting the coffee down.

"Are you planning to kill me then?"

"Get dressed. We leave in ten minutes." He threw the hoodie at her.

"Is this yours? I thought you preferred me with nothing on." Her eyes narrowed at him as she got up to get out of her torn dress from last night.

"You want to walk out of here and through the mansion full of able bodied wolves, be my guest. But you will be walking back if that is your decision. Cant have people thinking I pick crazies as concubines."

"Ah… you care what people think about you."

"You have eight minutes." He threw a paused glance at her body as she slipped into the hoodie before walking out of the room.

The hoodie barely covered her ass; she pulled it further down, slipped into her heels, grabbed her coffee, and headed out of the room.

She met him waiting in the SUV and slipped into the passenger seat. He drove in silence to the mansion, a scowl perfectly placed on his face.

Ava heard whispering as she headed into the dining room for breakfast.

"Nelly, I am serious; the girl is a witch! You have to do something!" Lily whispered.

"The Alpha needs a bit of change; let him have it. He has been under a lot of pressure for years." Nelly said. She sounded more like a mother and not a concubine.

"Lily, ignore her. The alpha isn't attracted to her anymore anyway, so it's clearly not her problem that some girl is coming to upset the balance."

Ava smiled to herself. Good, this means everyone also was noticing the alpha crack.

"Gooooood morning everyone!" she breezed into the dining room cheerfully. "Who else had a great night? I know I did."

She plopped into the dining room chair. She was actually enjoying that people were jealous of her, and it may be getting to her head a little bit.

Everything she was experiencing was a first, and she wanted more; she wanted people to be jealous of her, fear her, and worship her.

"Is that Lucas's hoodie?" Lily pointed.

"Yeah, he ripped my dress, so he brought me another this morning."

"He brought you another?" Sarah argued.

"I am famished. I have a few minutes before heading to meet the alpha."

"Ava?" Nelly called. "Can I have a word with you?" Nelly got up without waiting for a response. Ava followed her into the living room.

"Are you a child?!" she thundered.

"I don't understand."

"Listen, I am glad that you can give our alpha a bit of excitement, switch things up for him a little. It's good for him, but don't rub it in the faces of the other girls. You are acting like a spoiled child. Three days ago, you were broken and battered. And now…" Nelly placed her hands on Ava's shoulders.

"Use your head, Ava. Or you will crash just as quickly as you rise."

"No! I have been put down, stepped on, spat on, punched, bullied, insulted, despised, and every derogatory thing they could cook up in their brains because they thought me weak," Ava shouted almost like a growl. "Whatever little strength I get, I will harness it and turn it into something explosive. I don't care who I burn on my way up."

"Oh dearie, you may end up being the one burning up, but I promise I will not say anything on the topic anymore."

Nelly finished and made to walk away until she turned to say something else. "But if your misguided ambition hurts my alpha in any way. I will break you." Her eyes flashed a dark gold, her wolf just at the surface.

Ava shivered and watched her go, her appetite suddenly gone. She decided to head to her room to freshen up before heading to see the alpha.

*****

Ava got to Lucas's office and found him studying a map of the Crimson Pack. She took a seat and watched him for a few minutes.

"If you are looking for a point of entry, you can try the North entrance. There is an underground escape hatch that leads straight into Leon's estate. It's there in case the alpha needs an escape plan." Ava suggested.

Leon raised an eyebrow, impressed by the information. "Leave it to Leon to be a wimp. An alpha never deserts. How did you find this place?"

"When he found out I was his fated mate, we used to sneak in there for a bit of privacy."

"My little virgin, not so much of a virgin after all." Ava saw something darken in his eyes.

"We never really did anything; we would just talk and make plans about our future. A few kisses here and there but he was trying to keep our relationship secret so that was the best spot for us." Ava explained.

"Why the secrecy?"

"Political unrest, he called it. He married Selene to strengthen the pack so they could fight back against your attack."

Leon sat at the edge of the desk, paying attention to her story. "Yeah, I heard about that. I am sorry to say, but your former alpha has been scammed. I will attack whenever I want to."

"Why don't you?"

"Rules, laws… You won't understand. Let's just say I have two strikes from the High Council already. I need diplomacy to take over a territory this time, which is where you come in." he leaned down till he was almost at eye level with her.

"How can I take over Leon's territory without too much bloodshed?"
