Chapter 30: At Home
Aizawa, at the request of the police, which rarely happened, arrived at another crime scene that was completely sealed off by the police. His work often revolved around investigation, fortunately his intellect along with the experienced detective Naomasa Tsukauchi always produced fruitful results. However, unlike previous encounters, Tsukauchi looked slightly pale and worried this time. Aizawa immediately realized that this case was unusual.
Ever since he captured the death of his classmate and best friend Oboro Shirakumo due to an unknown villain, his attitude towards the work of a hero has changed greatly and is more serious. Aizawa had previously been quite cold and reasonable, now he was trying to devote more time to work as a pro-hero Eraser Head.
Entering the sealed and abandoned factory, he simultaneously came across worried faces of operatives and investigators.
-"This is the first time I've seen so many investigators in one place. What happened here..." - Aizawa immediately noticed a strong door and a wardrobe lying next to it, apparently overturned by force. Then, entering the room, he was dumbfounded. A pile of already rather rotten bodies and dried whole pools of blood under them were scattered around. All the corpses had only one trace of violent death - a hole in the head, obviously from a bullet. - Damn it... - a gag reflex was felt in his throat.
Tsukauchi went inside and tried not to look once again at a dozen corpses over which flies were flying. - We have almost no leads. We watched the nearest cameras, saw only a silhouette in a black suit running across the street not far from here, he was moving towards the neighboring area to the west.
- Motive?
- Most likely revenge. Neither phones nor wallets were stolen from the victims. We read the correspondence from the victims' phones. They apparently belonged to some Grimm cult.
-Grimm...
-Yeah, that name sounds familiar. -Tsukauchi, like many police officers, heroes, and villains, remembered this internet phenomenon. Grimm had previously become famous for live-streaming the torture of pedophiles a couple of years ago in the city of Jaku. -But there's been no trace of him for a long time, maybe he's gone into hiding...Damn, let's get out of here. -They left the disgusting crime scene.
-What else is in the correspondence?
-We found drugs in Watanabe's house, the potential leader of the cult, and a couple more cult members suspected of a number of both light and heavy crimes.
-Apparently there was something to take revenge for.
-And also...Aizawa, maybe they're connected to the another villain. It's in Watanabe's correspondence, some unknown contact. - After an anxious pause, he continued. - Watanabe was probably not the real leader of this group. This is indicated by the commanding tone of the correspondence of the unknown contact, signed with a single dot. Unfortunately, most of the correspondence was deleted, and the oldest message was dated several months earlier.
Aizawa was taken aback by this. Apparently, he would have to go on night patrol again and look for new details on this case.
- I'll take care of it. I'll be glad to receive any information.

In his small room, standing in front of the mirror, Taiko peered at his newly acquired wings. The vast wings were very flexible, but at the same time strong, shimmering in the light. Until now, he had difficulty believing what was happening, but he was so overcome with trembling, from these majestic wings, as if he was standing at the top, above everyone else. The Hornet King.
After everything that happened, he should have kept a low profile for the time being, although he was lucky to escape from that unpleasantly placed camera.
Being a loner was becoming increasingly difficult even among villains, given the constant improvement of the heroes' cooperation and the strengthening of their quirks. Villains, on the other hand, do not have the opportunity to train their powers, at least not openly. Such are the trends, crime is increasingly becoming organized, but the overall number of crimes is also decreasing, all due to the effective work of the tops and their teams. All Might alone does so many things in a day that it is difficult to keep up with the legal recording of each accomplishment.
Taiko had long wanted to leave his old way of life in the past, just like Kuinn. But something constantly made his body boil from the inside. A feeling of his own dissatisfaction. Eternal self-improvement had always been part of his daily routine, and villainous and criminal activities had instilled in him certain patterns of behavior. Why not reject emotions and do what he does best? He had already tried to distract himself with less destructive things, like school, friends, and hell, he even thought about becoming a hero - it didn't help. Everyday life now seemed like boring crap after the ride he had been through.
As for Kuinn, he still had fading feelings that he didn't really try to hold back.
- So. I need to distract myself. - Taiko waved away the tear of sadness that had appeared. In fact, the money situation wasn't that bad. He had basically been living off benefits all this time. Formally, Kyudai was still the guardian, but he gave all the money and compensation to Taiko. At least somewhere the old man had acted according to his conscience.
The foundation and the government really did help a lot. They took on the burden of paying for the housing of the victims, and the bills for the insured houses were fully compensated by the insurance companies. In addition, from the past, being Grimm, he left a buried cache worth a million yen. Therefore, Taiko now had a total of twelve and a half million yen. He proudly invested ten million yen in the shares of the All Might Foundation, and lived on the remaining two and a half million for the past three years, sometimes getting by with some daytime work.
Why didn't he put it at compound interest in a Japanese bank? A good question. Japan has had a soft monetary policy for loans for a long time, which does not allow banks to earn interest on loans, but also does not allow depositors to receive income from deposits. All this is done with the aim of combating the deflation of the yen. This policy has been working for many years and has proven itself to be quite effective.
Taiko spent money differently in different months, but it would be wrong to say that he was living hand to mouth. Since the foundation and the state took on the burden of providing housing, on average 35,000 yen was spent on food per month, considering that Musutafu is a fairly large city even by the standards of urbanized Japan. Plus hygiene, plus transportation, plus clothes. As a result, he now had a little less than a million yen left on hand.
Taiko just felt like eating after all the recent events. Ordering food is a bit expensive, but he doesn't do it often, and he doesn't really want to show off right now. So he ordered udon and pizza, feeling like his stomach wouldn't leave him alone from simple udon.
The guy with wings wanted to surf the news on his phone while waiting for the food. Unfortunately, he didn't find any news about the massacre at the factory. There was no mention of it anywhere in the last 24 hours.
-Hmm. It's up to the cops, whether they'll let the media in or not, it's up to them.
Taiko's smartphone was middle class. He decided that today in the world you can do without a computer, a phone could easily replace most of the tasks, although perhaps not as convenient as it would be on a computer. Watching the old stream on all sorts of third-party sources, where Grimm tortured pedophiles, Taiko realized one simple fact a long time ago.
People on the Internet like it. They like freedom of speech and anonymity, maybe that's why they write such angry and resentful words. And what does he care? The best defense in such a situation would be to just smile and be glad that your opponent's ass is burning with envy. Especially in private groups in the main messengers of the country, where Taiko will monitor every group that has mentioned him in any way lately.
There are still Grimm fans who sometimes exchange memes. They also ridiculed and, apparently, were proud of the fact that Grimm tortured pedophiles in his time, defending them in every possible way and becoming an unbreakable mountain for him.
As a result, Grimm still survived as an Internet phenomenon and many still remember him in the hope of returning such lynching to active use. Vigilantism in the old days of rebuilding after the destructive era of quirks enjoyed active support among the people until the beginning of the last decade, until the new and official system of heroism began to displace and catch lynchers.
- "There are no real lynchers left in our time." thought Taiko, realizing that pro-heroes had displaced all competition, essentially legalizing their activities. Having become interested in this issue, he found old articles about the activities of a certain Lady Nagant, where she killed the head of the HPSC, but her words were missed in one forgotten source about corruption. She didn't tell him more, and this seemed strange to Taiko, because before this incident she was an optimistic pro-hero. - "What prompted her to change like that? Corruption?"
Taiko was becoming more and more worried about this question. He wanted to know everything first-hand, because nothing else was mentioned anywhere, or at least he couldn't find it. The guy took a ticket to Tartarus for the next weekend, as funny as it sounded. He needed a good reason to visit the prisoner, they don't let just anyone in there. But Taiko thought that telling the guards that he was her distant relative would be enough.
- Yeah... a crazy idea. Going to Tartarus, I never thought I'd go there. I probably have too much money. Do I have nowhere to put it now? - Taiko asked himself reproachfully.
This impregnable fortress was not displayed on the public map, but you could go there through some official intermediary.
Besides that, there were a few other minor vigilantes mentioned, like Stendhal, Knuckleduster, The Crawler, and...
Taiko came across some pretty explicit photos of a certain Pop☆Step, but one of the photos stood out in particular. In this photo, Taiko realized how similar some of her features were to Kuinn. Hair covering one eye, sharp teeth, a smirk... This photo was different from the others and was taken rather surreptitiously, as if the photographer was hiding, unlike the others.
Taiko's heart began to pound harder. - "What's going on? Who the hell is this!?"
- No... it can't be her. - he tried to calm down, citing that he had started raving about Kuinn. He decided to leave this question for later.
In general, Taiko was not a hikki, and did not like spending time on the Internet. His trained body liked to be in motion, to be beaten to a pulp, and spending time in one relaxed position for too long negatively affected all his indicators, even psychological ones. Frequently reading comments, you could earn brain liquefaction to the level of processed cheese and sometimes wonder how stupid people can be.
Having eaten udon, he wanted to go to Giran, grabbing pizza and thanking him for the tip and a small gift. Apparently, the toothless villain still felt guilty for working with the Cult. Of course, without Giran, the outcome would have been the same anyway, all because of the direct intervention of AFO.
"Am I afraid to visit one of AFO's bases? To answer "no" would be a serious understatement, but AFO has been sitting in some unknown hole for a long time and does not stick its head out, will he reveal his location for me, risking being exposed earlier than expected? I doubt it. This devil has many incomprehensible plans, he went into passive underground immediately after his defeat. The loss of old connections and respect in the criminal world contributed to this." Taiko thought while putting on clothes different from the ones he wore on his last foray into the factory.
A red hoodie, khaki pants and white sneakers, to hide his face he put on a white medical mask, not standing out much on the street.
About Oneself. This quirk strangely resonates from time to time, but nothing more. -"Apparently, she is waiting for some trigger to awaken. Most likely, contact with AFO will contribute to this, because it was from contact with it that she was formed." During his training with Kyudai, Taiko knew the nature of the behavior of quirks and how they interact. Although here it was easy to guess.
