DC:The Darkest Knight

Chapter 8: Before the funeral

I stepped out of the car and gazed at Wayne Manor. It was huge and well-kept, despite looking like it had been built for a king a hundred years ago.

Once inside, I quickly scanned the interior, which was even more luxurious than I expected. But after a few glances, I stopped looking, not wanting anyone to see me admiring my own home as if it were my first visit.

Unlike Selina, who was looking at everything with wide eyes and an open mouth, there were antiques in every corner and expensive-looking old paintings on the walls.

There were also suits of armor on display. While I was glancing around sneakily, a maid approached and asked if I needed anything.

I told the maid to take Selina to one of the bathrooms, while Alfred to led me and Teleute my room.

Entering the room, which looked like it belonged to a prince with how luxurious it was, I took off my clothes and entered the bathroom to take a shower.

After my shower, I asked a maid to prepare a meal. Teleute and I walked to the dining room, where I saw Selina already at the table with slightly damp hair, enjoying a steak. I took the head chair, and Teleute sat next to me as the maid served our food.

"Master Bruce, Officer Dan Corrigan and his partner James Gordon from the Gotham City Police Department are here to take your statement about the incident in the alley. They are waiting for you in your father's study," Alfred informed me while serving another plate to Selina.

Selina grabbed the plate and quickly devoured the steak without pausing.

*Cough* *Cough*

"Slow down, Selina," I said, handing her a glass of water as she choked on her food. She was eating the steak on her plate as if it would come back to life and escape at any moment.

I didn't find her actions strange or disgusting because I knew how she was feeling. Since in my previous life, when I was being trained to be a mercenary, I was often left starving as well.

"Thanks, and I'm sorry. It's just that it's my first time eating something so delicious," Selina said with a blush, feeling embarrassed, then she looked at me and asked, "Can I take some of this to my sister too?" She gave me a pleading look, making puppy eyes, or in her case, kitten eyes.

"Sure, if you want anything else, just let the maid know, and they will prepare it for you," I set my fork down.

"I'll be right back," Kissing Teleute's hand. I stood up and left the dining room.

"Alfred, when Selina leaves today, go with her and take her and her sister to a hotel until you can arrange a house in a safe location for them and Make sure they have everything they need. After that, enroll them in a good school," I instructed as I walked toward Thomas Wayne's study with Alfred.

"As you wish, sir, but wouldn't it be better for Miss Selina and her sister to stay here until we arrange a house for them?"

"It's not like I'm going to throw her back onto the streets, Alfred. I'm already providing her with a hotel to stay in, and even if she is a child, I'm not going to let someone I just met today live in my house."

"Mr. Wayne, I'm Officer Daniel Corrigan from GCPD, and this is my partner, James Gordon,"the man in a police uniform introduced himself as he stood up from the couch and pointed to the red-haired man beside him.

"Nice to meet you, Officer Corrigan, Officer Gordon," I nod at them and take a seat on the couch across from them.

"How have you been since the last time we met, Bruce?" James asked me with a smile, as he and Corrigan settled back.

However, I looked at the fake James Gordon with confusion, as we had never met before.

I referred to him as fake because he had yet to grow his legendary mustache.

"It looks like you don't remember, hahaha. I'm talking about the time you skipped school to watch a movie," James said, laughing.

"Ah, I remember now, but it is an embarrassing memory for me, Officer Gordon, since I got caught, haha," I said with a laugh of my own.

"Mr. Wayne, we don't have much time. If it's convenient for you, we would like to ask you some questions about the night in the alley," Corrigan interrupted us and took out a notebook from his pocket.

"Of course, Officer. I'll try my best to answer any questions you have. Alfred, please serve some tea for the officers,"

"Oh, there is no need. We just have a few questions and won't take up too much of your time," James Gordon said hastily as he waved his hand.

After that, they asked me some questions like, Did you see the killer's face,What kind of gun did he use,Did my father have any enemies, etc. After answering their questions, they left.

I went back to the dining room, finished my meal, and stayed with Selina until she left with Alfred, as I only trusted him. Then, I headed to the manor's library with Teleute to read science books until nightfall.

Even if I did get Batman's skills, I wanted to see if I could learn more from the books, but the manor's library was mainly composed of history and novel books. There were only basic science and technology books, along with Thomas Wayne's medical books, and I finished all of them in 10 minutes. So when Alfred returned, I asked him to buy every science book that was missing from the manor's library.

The next day, Alfred got me a dozen science books because he thought I would need a while to read them. But I finished them in just a few minutes since I understood most of the content. I speed-read them, probably looking like that guy from the African talent show who reads books in seconds.

At first, Alfred didn't believe me, so I handed him a book and asked him to pick a random question. After witnessing my genius, Alfred decided ordered some science and technology books. I spent the entire next day reading about 1,000 of them.

The reason I was able to read this many books in a day, other than my 1045 IQ, was thanks to skills I got from Batman, and thanks to those skills, I know, or more like understand, most of the content in those books.

I also asked Alfred to send a written request to my school stating that I will be homeschooled from now on, as I didn't want to waste my time with school. Of course, Alfred protested against my request, stating that it is important for me to attend school, even if I don't need it academically. He believed that school would help me socially. But after some light manipulation, I was able to convince him.

On the following day, I learned the names of every influential person in Gotham, such as businessmen, politicians, mob bosses, cops and their relatives, for future use.

I spent the last day before the funeral with Teleute at the amusement park. It was nice, and I had fun. It was also the first time in my life that I visited an amusement park.
