DC: Zoom

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Reign of Zoom

Zoom tore through the city, streaks of blue lightning crackling in his wake. His mind raced just as fast—his sister had uncovered the truth. The police were working with the Crimsons, the very group responsible for trafficking children. Now, there was only one thing left to do.

Kill the men responsible.

The police station was just ahead when something caught his attention. A presence. A force trailing behind him.

He glanced back. Orange lightning.

It flickered and pulsed, struggling to keep up. Zoom let out a low, amused hum. How cute.

He slowed just enough, letting his pursuer think he had a chance. The chase led them further, deeper into the city, until Zoom finally came to a halt in the middle of a scrapyard.

The air hummed with electricity as he turned to face the fool who dared to follow.

"What the hell is that? That doesn't look human," Cisco's voice crackled through Barry's earpiece, his usual humor replaced with unease.

Barry took a step forward, fists clenched. "Hey, you!" he called out.

Zoom let out a low, guttural rasp, the sound unnatural, inhuman.

Barry's breath hitched. "You were there that night… the night my mother was killed."

Zoom tilted his head slightly, studying him. "You're the man everyone calls a hero."

Barry's patience snapped. "Tell me!"

His eyes flared with lightning, electricity surging through him as he lunged forward in a blur of orange energy.

"Barry, don't!" Wells' voice shouted through the comm, but it was too late.

Barry lunged, but Zoom was faster—much faster. Before Barry could react, a blur of blue lightning struck first. His eyes widened in shock, barely processing what he was seeing.

Then came the onslaught.

Lightning crackled, fists collided, the air split with the force of their speed. But it wasn't a fight. Barry was swinging at a ghost, striking nothing but air while Zoom landed every hit with brutal precision.

This wasn't a battle. It was a massacre.

Zoom stood victorious.

With Barry limp in his grasp, he streaked across the city, blue lightning illuminating the night as he ran straight up the side of a skyscraper, scaling it effortlessly. In seconds, he reached the rooftop, dragging the broken Flash behind him.

Zoom held Barry against the ledge, his grip like a vice. The city lights flickered below them, far too distant for comfort.

"What do they call you?" Zoom drawled, his voice a low, distorted growl, laced with amusement and menace.

Barry coughed, blood dripping from his lips. "The Flash," he rasped.

Zoom let out a low, amused chuckle. "The Flash," he repeated, as if testing the name. His tone darkened. "I am Zoom. The fastest man alive."

Team Flash watched in horror, their screens flooded with the live feed of the brutal scene. Fear gripped them, but one man remained deathly still—Wells.

His gaze locked onto Zoom, the past clawing its way back. The man who broke me. The man who stole my speed.

But this wasn't the time for vengeance. No matter what, The Flash could not die. Wells clenched his fists, his mind racing. He had to act—now.

"My God… he's going to kill him," Caitlin whispered, fear tightening her voice.

But Zoom didn't strike the final blow. Instead, he hurled Barry aside, sending him tumbling onto the rooftop. A crack of blue lightning split the air as Zoom vanished, his speed ripping through the night like a storm.

Wells exhaled sharply, relief washing over him. His fingers twitched, his foot almost shifting—almost stepping out of the wheelchair.

Zoom tore through the city, a streak of blue lightning splitting the darkness as he raced straight for the police department.

Inside, chaos erupted. Officers scrambled, drawing their weapons, barrels locking onto the blur that came to a sudden, unnatural stop.

"Freeze!" one of them shouted.

Others rushed to activate the metahuman dampeners.

Zoom tilted his head, an amused growl escaping his throat. His body crackled with energy, vibrating at impossible speeds. The bullets fired—yet they passed through him, as if he wasn't even there.

"David." His voice was a distorted rasp, dripping with malice.

Then, the room bathed in a sudden blue glow as the dampeners activated. Zoom glanced around, unfazed. A chuckle rumbled from his chest.

In a blink, he was gone.

And then—he was there. Right in front of the Chief of Police. A gloved hand clamped around the man's throat, lifting him effortlessly off the ground.

"You little toys won't work on me," Zoom sneered.

The entire force stood frozen, helpless as the monster in black tightened his grip. Blue lightning snapped around him as he raised the struggling man higher, making sure every officer in the room watched.

"I am Zoom," he declared, his voice a guttural roar. "This man will die as a warning to all of you. This city belongs to me."

Without hesitation, his hand phased through the Chief's chest.

The man's body jolted, a strangled gasp escaping his lips.

Then—nothing.

David collapsed, lifeless.

Zoom's dark eyes flickered across the room, locking onto his next targets. In a blur of blue lightning, he was on them before they could react. Screams barely had time to escape their lips before he struck—swift, merciless, final.

Bodies hit the floor.

Without sparing another glance, Zoom turned and vanished, blue lightning crackling in his wake as he sped out of the police station, leaving only chaos and death behind.
