Chapter 12: Chapter 12
Dane ignored Clark and turned his gaze to Jason.
"Your wound should heal soon. Don't worry; what you need most now is rest."
Jason glanced at the bed next to him. "What about her?"
"Her injuries are less than a tenth of yours. She'll recover much faster than you will."
Relieved, Jason shifted his attention back to Clark.
"Excuse me, but what about the Joker?"
Clark scratched his head, looking embarrassed. "He... got away."
Jason clenched his fists in frustration. Dane turned to Clark, his expression questioning, almost demanding: How did you let him escape?
Clark was embarrassed: "That criminal is cunning!"
He went on to explain how the Joker had ruthlessly and decisively used his subordinates as pawns to create a distraction, allowing him to escape.
Dane sighed. It was no surprise. The Joker had earned his title as the "greatest villain" for a reason—his decisiveness and unpredictability made him unmatched.
Dane mused that the Joker wouldn't bother hiding after his escape. Instead, he'd probably go straight back to toying with Batman. To someone like the Joker, everyone else was just an appetizer; Batman was the main course.
With that thought, Dane snapped his fingers. "Cortana, take over the satellite signal and find me the latest local news from Gotham."
"Cortana, take over the satellite signal and find me the local news in Gotham."
"Right away, Dane," Cortana replied.
The AI immediately completed the task, displaying results in seconds.
Clark hesitated. "Uh... isn't that kind of... illegal?"
Dane feigned innocence. "Is it? I wouldn't know. I'm a 'god'--who doesn't understand human law."
Clark could only stare, speechless. Jason, meanwhile, remained unbothered. He and Batman often did this sort of thing, so he didn't see the issue. Still, he was curious about Dane's self-proclaimed "godhood."
A virtual screen unfolded mid-air, displaying footage from Gotham's local news.
The video, filmed from a helicopter, followed a spotlight tracking a pitch-black Batmobile as it rampaged through the city streets. The chaos it left in its wake was evident—countless buildings and public facilities were damaged along the way.
On the screen, journalists condemned the behavior, calling it reckless and unacceptable.
Clark frowned, but Dane remained unfazed. To him, the chaos unfolding in Gotham was nothing compared to the building demolition during Man of Steel.
Then, something even more thrilling appeared on the news footage. The Batmobile began to transform, revealing a massive "rocket" launcher. it fired, instantly halting the car in front of it with an explosion.
"This car is incredible! If I ever get the chance, I'm getting one!" Dane exclaimed, his excitement akin to someone watching a action movie.
Clark, however, didn't share his enthusiasm. "That could hurt people," he said, his expression darkening.
The next moment, Batman emerged from the Batmobile, dragging a figure from the wreckage of the overturned car. Jason's pupils contracted—it was the Joker.
"Looks like he's out for revenge on your behalf," Dane said with a sly smile.
Jason felt a mix of emotions. Seeing Batman deliver punch after punch to the Joker stirred something in him—gratitude, perhaps. But deep down, he knew Bruce wouldn't cross the line.
Killing the Joker would be easy for Batman, but he wasn't doing it. Jason suspected Bruce hoped Commissioner Gordon would arrive in time to stop him. When the police dragged the Joker away, Jason thought did bruce questioning of his justice, his principles. Does any of this make sense ?
Jason, too, felt disappointed. The Joker had escaped death once again. This incident solidified his belief—criminals like the Joker didn't deserve Arkham. That mental hospital was more like an amusement park for psychopaths, a revolving door from which they could escape to wreak havoc on innocents.
Bruce is wrong! Jason clenched his fists. He wasn't the same Robin he once was. He realized he couldn't follow Batman's "no-kill" rule anymore. His identity was exposed, and he couldn't keep working as Robin. he would have to go his own way.
Dane's voice broke his thoughts. "What's you plan next?"
Jason hesitated. "I... don't know."
His mind drifted to his past—his father abandoning the family, and his mother left him overwhelmed.
Before meeting Bruce, he'd stolen to survive. The first time he encountered Batman, he'd stolen the wheels off the Batmobile.
Bruce saw potential in him. After rigorous trials, Jason became the second Robin. But they always clashed over how to deal with criminals. Jason had lived at society's lowest level and knew how unrepentant criminals could be. He wanted them exterminated, but Bruce's staunch code prevented that.
He looked at Dane and Clark. "Who are you, really?"
Dane and Clark exchanged a glance, silently reaching an agreement.
"Our true identities aren't something we can reveal lightly," Clark said. "I'm sure you understand why."
Jason nodded slowly.
Dane grinned. "To simplify it: the hero who saved your mother and son is from an alien planet, and we're currently standing on their ancestral spaceship."
Jason listened in stunned silence as Dane rattled off Clark's abilities: invulnerability, incredible speed, flight, X-ray vision, heat vision, super breath, and more.
Dane was clearly enjoying himself, but Clark interrupted. "That's enough exaggeration! And I don't have... whatever frozen breath is supposed to be."
"Oh? You haven't figured that out yet?" Dane quipped with mock surprise before shrugging. "You'll get there eventually. I can help."
Jason felt overwhelmed. Was this real? He glanced at Dane—taller and more imposing than Clark. He doesn't seem ordinary either...
Clark took the opportunity to interject. "This man before you is a true 'god.'"
Jason blinked in disbelief. "What. The. Hell?"
"Not quite," Dane corrected. "I'm more of a demigod."
He explained that while he had divine strength, he lacked the authority to manipulate life and death. Jason's mind reeled as he processed this information.
Dane clapped him on the shoulder. "Take your time. The world hasn't changed—it's always been like this. You're just seeing more of the truth now. On the bright side, Batman doesn't know any of this yet. Imagine his reaction when he finds out!"
Jason managed a chuckle at the thought. Surprised at his own amusement, he looked at Dane. "Thank you."
Dane smiled but said nothing. He could see that Jason will ready to chart his own path. Like Nightwing before him, Jason would go solo.
He still remembered Nightwing's infamous line from Titans: "F*** Batman!" Jason might not be dead in this world, but it seemed inevitable that the Red Hood would emerge.
Dane supported Jason's choice. Some criminals deserved more than the revolving door of Arkham. A Punisher-like figure was needed in this world.
Superman and Dane couldn't take on that role. Their immense power made it too easy to devalue human life. Batman, capable but restrained, struggled with the burden of his principles.
Dane nodded. "Stay here on the ship and recover. When the time comes, decide where you want to go."
Jason agreed. "Shazam, can you... not tell Batman I'm alive yet?"
"Just call me Shazam. And sure, it's your call when to tell him."
Jason nodded in gratitude, beginning to think of Dane as the one in charge here.
