Chapter 260: Chapter 260 The Chitauri Descend
In the Manhattan area, clouds connected to a blue beam of light exploded with intense energy.
As most of the citizens had evacuated Manhattan, they watched the clouds, now tinted by the blue light and revealing a backdrop of stars, and remembered the previous alien invasion of New York.
It seemed exactly the same.
Could it be that aliens were attacking Earth again?
Why is it always New York that suffers?
Suppressing the panic in their hearts, the citizens thought back to the recent battle between Cyborg, Iron Man, and Harry, and another unbelievable thought emerged.
Iron Man and Harry, both members of the Avengers, why would they stand against Cyborg?
Could it be that the Avengers had turned traitor?
Reflecting on the history since the formation of the Avengers, Crossbones, a former member, was a Hydra spy,
and the recently recruited billionaire Victor Von Doom announced his defection at yesterday press conference, now a fugitive...
And just now, the people around Tony Stark and Harry Osborn seemed to be Victor Von Doom!
What a damn Avengers, more like a Traitors League!
Apart from the chaotic thoughts of those outside the Manhattan area, the situation in Manhattan was quickly exposed online.
Some even took out their expensive cameras to capture the starry sky opposite the clouds from a great distance.
The camera lived up to its hefty price tag, delivering a very clear picture of the starry sky.
The image was uploaded to the internet.
In the midst of heated discussions, astronomers immediately declared that they had never seen this star map before.
In other words, it was almost certain that the portal in the clouds led to another galaxy.
Simply put, the aliens were coming again!
Panic spread not only throughout New York but also across the entire digital world and other regions, as people began to realize the gravity of the situation.
Lately, events had been frequent and dramatic.
Though the incident was occurring in New York, in reality, Earth was facing an unprecedented upheaval.
It seemed humanity was about to enter a new era, a grand era full of turbulence.
Boom!!
Finally, the most feared scenario unfolded.
In the clouds above, groups of massive alien battleships from that unfamiliar starry sky appeared.
The bio-mechanical battleships passed through the portal in the clouds and descended to Earth, hovering over Manhattan, exuding an imposing aura.
"What is that?"
"Aliens! It aliens again!"
The citizens stared in shock, clenching their fists as they thought of the Justice League, which had already begun to assemble.
"They have to defeat them!"
Countless hopes and prayers silently cheered for the Justice League.
At this moment, they had completely cast aside any thoughts of the Avengers.
Based on what they had seen earlier, no one believed the Avengers would play any meaningful role in this battle.
It would be a relief if they didn't become a hindrance!
Elsewhere.
On the rooftop of a building not far from Stark Tower, a special forces unit and their allies also caught sight of the bio-mechanical battleships emerging from the portal.
These battleships, resembling mutated turtles, swayed their limbs as their bodies, covered in thick metallic shells, hovered in the air.
Along their sides were numerous paddle-like appendages resembling centipede legs, creating an awe-inspiring and intimidating sight.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Soon, swarms of aliens riding hovercrafts and wielding alien energy weapons burst forth from within the battleships.
The aliens wore gray and white armor, their faces resembling bone masks. Though humanoid in shape, their appearance was distinctly different from humans.
"Hehehe!"
Some among them raised their arms in a triumphant gesture, prompting roars of approval from their comrades as they spread out in all directions to attack.
The special forces, fully prepared, were waiting for the aliens to emerge.
They split into two groups.
One group unloaded weapons from their vehicles, while the other positioned themselves on the rooftop, firing at the aliens.
Taking advantage of the aliens distraction, they managed to shoot down several hovercrafts.
"Ka-ka!"
One of the Chitauri soldiers spotted the special forces position and charged forward with an energy weapon in hand.
"Damn it, there are too many of them!" Duke expression shifted.
"We can't retreat!" Hawk gritted his teeth and said resolutely,
"We have to keep them contained in the Manhattan area! Most of the civilians here have been evacuated—this is the only place suitable as a battlefield!"
"But…" Duke glanced around at his comrades, all of whom wore determined expressions, and finally nodded.
"You're right. Kill them. Kill these damned aliens!"
Boom!!
Suddenly, another peal of thunder rumbled overhead.
Terrifying lightning gathered in the air, releasing waves of energy that stirred up a fierce wind. The massive shockwaves created visible ripples in the air.
A hammer, wrapped in crackling lightning, hurtled through the sky, piercing through more than a dozen Chitauri soldiers surrounding them. Blood and flesh splattered everywhere.
"This is…"
Hawk widened in disbelief, shocked that the dire threat facing the special forces had been neutralized so easily.
Once again, he felt the overwhelming power of superhumans.
At that moment, a figure landed in front of them, catching the flying hammer, now firmly in their grasp.
Beside this figure, another, even more familiar one descended from the sky.
"Captain America!"
"Cap!"
The expressions of the special forces members shifted slightly.
They hadn't forgotten that Captain America was also a member of the Avengers, and their previous encounter with Avengers members had cost them dearly.
"Relax."
Seeing their reaction, Rogers face darkened. "I'm not being controlled!"
The special forces earlier clash with Avengers members had been clearly seen by Rogers and his team on their way to the scene, thanks to surveillance footage relayed to their transport by S.H.I.E.L.D. network specialists.
As he spoke, Rogers turned his gaze to the endless stream of alien forces pouring into New York through the portal.
He glanced briefly at the fierce battle taking place near Stark Tower between Justice League and Avengers members, gripping his shield tightly.
"Now not the time for chatter," he said sternly.
"As you mentioned earlier, we need to keep the battle contained in Manhattan and figure out how to shut down that portal."
"Batman is already working on it!" Hawk snorted coldly.
After their previous clashes with Avengers members, he no longer had much respect for the seasoned soldier standing before him.
"I don't think you need to get involved. Batman is far more reliable than your team!" Hawk declared.
"Our immediate priority is just to control the battlefield!"
"Alright," Rogers replied with a wry smile.
Stark Tower Penthouse
Anton unfolded his glider wings, arriving at the penthouse to find Loki, holding the Scepter of Mind, leisurely pouring himself a glass of wine.
Loki raised his glass towards the alien army outside the window, as if celebrating the fulfillment of his grand ambitions.
Then he turned, eyeing Anton, who had transformed into Batman, and raised an eyebrow.
"Batman?"
Loki raised his glass again, this time as a gesture of respect. "A pleasure to meet you. I've heard of your reputation.
They say you're the leader of the Justice League, someone even Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, obeys. Truly an extraordinary man."
As he spoke, Loki scrutinized Anton closely.
"But you… you look like an ordinary human, without any superpowers. Apologies, but I don't sense even the slightest threat from you…"
Loki smiled, but his gaze turned icy. "Do you think you can take me on?"
He took a sip of his wine and spread his fingers, letting the glass fall to the ground.
Crash!
The glass shattered on impact.
At the same time, as if the sound of breaking glass was a signal, it ignited the battle like a spark lighting a fuse.
Loki raised the Scepter of Mind in his hand, and a beam of energy shot out toward Anton.
