Chapter 17: Chapter 17 Venom Appears

"Eddie, you…" Dora's voice trembled as she stared at the man in front of her, his face full of terror. Still shaken, she was shocked again. "You're okay?"

"Does it shock you that I'm okay?" Eddie crossed his arms, feeling his body, equally shaken but unable to resist rolling his eyes. "Are you hoping something would happen to me?"

"No." Dora's eyes lit up with excitement, her researcher's instincts kicking in as she exclaimed, "You're fine! You're actually fine! You've bonded with the symbiote and become the perfect host!"

"So, does that mean I can survive in space now?" Eddie was stunned.

"Of course," a deep voice echoed in his mind, "You are my perfect host."

"Who?" Eddie's eyes widened. "Who's talking?"

"Who's talking?" Dora asked, baffled. "No one said anything!"

"Impossible!" Eddie replied firmly. "I clearly heard someone speaking."

"Are you hearing things?" Dora furrowed her brow. "Does the symbiote have side effects? No, you need to get checked out right away!"

"What kind of checkup?" Eddie, thinking of their current situation, had no patience for it. Only once they were safe would he consider these things; otherwise, today might mark his death anniversary next year.

"Run! We need to go, now!" Eddie grabbed Dora and dashed away from the symbiote research center.

"Over there, the exit is that way!" Dora pointed in the direction.

The two of them sprinted.

"Stop!"

Just then, a group of security guards appeared at the corridor's entrance, armed and immediately aiming their guns at Eddie and Dora.

"Or we'll shoot!" the lead man barked.

Eddie and Dora ignored him, even picking up their pace. Only an idiot would stop!

"Fire!" the man commanded sharply.

Bang, bang, bang!

Special firearms shot out bursts of blue flame.

Bullets flew past, landing near Eddie and Dora's feet, sparking an unprecedented surge of adrenaline in them.

To Eddie's astonishment, one bullet seemed to be heading straight for him. He was certain he'd die right here, but at the last moment, his body strangely shifted a step forward, narrowly dodging the bullet.

This mysterious force had come out of nowhere, as if someone else were living inside his body.

Gulp.

Running with lingering fear, Eddie had an unsettling feeling.

But under such circumstances, he dared not stop to examine his body and continued to sprint with all his strength.

Dora struggled to keep up with Eddie's speed, practically being dragged along.

Soon.

A few more armed guards appeared ahead of them.

Caught between a rock and a hard place.

Eddie and Dora seemed to have no escape.

Dora's face turned to despair.

But Eddie's body moved of its own accord, sliding forward to kick down a few guards in front of him. Then, in a gravity-defying motion, he rose, shoving the remaining guards and sending them flying.

Bang! Bang!

Two guards slammed against the corridor walls, like paintings hung up, utterly immovable.

Knocking people down like hanging pictures!

The immense strength Eddie suddenly unleashed was astonishing.

Dora froze in shock.

Then she was whisked away as Eddie dragged her along.

"Chase them!"

The man in charge and his team quickly caught up.

He stared in horror at the guards who had slid to the ground after colliding with the walls.

As an experienced security captain, he could tell that the strength Eddie had casually displayed was beyond belief.

"How is that possible?"

He swallowed, seeming to realize something, his eyes lighting up.

"Catch him!"

He shouted, "There's a huge reward for capturing him from the boss!"

"Understood!"

The remaining men, far from foolish, felt the same excitement, eyes blazing as they watched Eddie and Dora as if they were running treasure chests.

Shuffling feet and rapid steps echoed as they pursued Eddie and Dora.

But along the way, Eddie's body acted on its own, displaying remarkable abilities, quickly taking down every guard blocking their path.

His body even seemed to morph bizarrely.

Turning into a mass of goo that shot forward, like a tendril extending, solidifying to wrap around an enemy's body, then tossing them aside.

The sound of bones breaking resounded, and it was clear these guards were finished.

Dora was utterly stunned.

She hadn't expected that a human-symbiote bond could grant such terrifying superpowers.

No wonder Carlton Drake was determined to push through with this research at any cost.

Could it be that Drake had planned this all along?

Lost in her thoughts, Dora was snapped back to reality by yet another shocking change in Eddie.

Whoosh!

As they reached the thick of the crowd, Eddie transformed into a hideous black creature.

Standing three meters tall like a small giant, he could touch the ceiling with ease, his presence exerting an overwhelming sense of oppression.

The creature had massive white eyes, resembling a demon from hell, with razor-sharp, serrated teeth covering its face.

"Heh heh!"

It let out a sly chuckle among the crowd and swallowed the head of an enemy whole.

The others collapsed in terror, barely able to hold their guns.

"Ahhhh—"

Dora screamed in horror.

Whoosh!

In an instant, Eddie reverted to his normal form, face full of shock.

"What was that?"

Though covered by the symbiote, Eddie retained his original consciousness, witnessing the scene that had just unfolded.

"What the hell did I just do?"

"Did I just… eat someone?"

On the verge of a breakdown, he glared at Dora, "What on earth is this symbiote?"

"I don't know! I have no idea!" Dora was equally on the edge of collapse.

"Don't run!"

More pursuers were closing in.

In the nick of time, Eddie forced himself to set aside the terrifying scene.

After all, these people deserved it; there was no time to dwell on it as he dragged Dora and continued fleeing.

Bang! Bang!

They quickly reached the exit.

At that moment, Carlton Drake was delivering an impassioned speech.

It was less a press conference and more of a personal performance.

Anton and Jameson were drowsy, bored by the barking of a defeated dog.

Suddenly.

A loud crash caught everyone's attention.

Reporters and the crowd turned toward the source of the sound.

It was an iron door behind Drake.

Sealed tightly, blocking everyone's view.

Yet now, the heavy iron door had a massive dent, as though struck by a powerful projectile.

"What's that?"

People gasped, "Is there a monster behind the door?"

Boom!!

Under the horrified gazes of the crowd, the heavy door burst open, flying outward.

Crash—

The iron door hit the ground.

Behind the empty doorway stood two figures.

A man and a woman.

Phil, standing among the crowd, was wide-eyed, dumbstruck.

The woman was cradled in the man's arms in a princess carry, her face obscured.

The man, with disheveled hair and dirt-streaked face, was only recognizable as a blond white man.

"Who is that?"

The crowd exclaimed, "He broke down the door—what kind of monster is he?"

"Stop!"

The guards behind the door arrived again, guns in hand.

The man didn't look back or even at the crowd; he simply stepped forward, leaping about twenty meters high.

With Dora's scream echoing, he disappeared into the nearby forest.

The guards pursued immediately.

Seeing this, Drake fell silent, then a look of excitement flashed in his eyes.

He exchanged a glance with his assistant.

The assistant stepped forward at the right time.

"Mr. Drake, do you have any explanation for what just happened?"

"Who is that man?"

"Is he one of your test subjects?"

"He just demonstrated superhuman abilities—was this the purpose of your illegal human experiments?"

"Mr. Drake, please answer our questions."

Questions fired off like a barrage of bullets, overwhelming anyone trying to dodge them.

Ignoring them, Drake waved his hand and left the podium.

The assistant approached the microphone.

"We apologize for the unexpected incident. We are unsure what just happened."

He paused, then added, "This press conference is now over. Once we have more information, we will inform the public."

"Don't leave!"

The crowd erupted.

Drake, however, ignored them and quickly returned to the research facility.

Even without thinking, he knew what had just happened.

Success!

The human-symbiote experiment had succeeded!

Meanwhile.

The moment Eddie appeared, Anton, watching the livestream from his car, nearly choked on his own spit.

"Damn!"

He cursed, "Eddie!!"
