Chapter 6: Into The Hive, The Fight, The Boom.
Ethan crouched in the shadow of the Kord Industries compound, his body tense. The replica Scarab bonded to his spine flared to life, its segmented armor crawling across his body like living metal. The transformation completed in seconds, leaving him encased in sleek, dark-green armor that glimmered under the moonlight.
Unlike Jaime's Scarab, which resembled a beetle, Ethan's had a leaner, more angular design, with antenna-like appendages protruding from his helmet. If Jaime was the beetle, Ethan's form resembled a predatory ant—sharp, efficient, and built for infiltration.
"Scarab, engage stealth protocols," Ethan whispered.
The armor shimmered, bending light around him until he was nearly invisible. He scaled the compound's outer wall with ease, his claws digging into the concrete.
The Torture Chamber
Ethan slipped into the facility, avoiding patrols and automated defenses. The Scarab's HUD overlaid a map of the building, guiding him to Jaime's location. As he approached, muffled voices and the hum of machinery grew louder.
He peered through a vent into the chamber where Jaime was being held. Jaime hung suspended in a cylindrical containment unit, energy restraints glowing around his wrists and ankles. His Scarab armor was partially deactivated, its surface flickering as beams of energy probed him.
A dozen computers surrounded the containment unit, their screens displaying streams of data as they analyzed the alien technology. Jaime groaned in pain, his body convulsing as the scanning process reached its climax.
Ethan's stomach twisted. They weren't just studying Jaime—they were tearing him apart piece by piece.
A figure stood near the main console, issuing orders. Ethan's heart sank as he recognized her—Maria's mother, Dr. Elena Kord.
"Prepare to transport the data to the primary server," she ordered. Her voice was cold, clinical, with no hint of remorse for the suffering she was causing.
Beside her was the hulking figure of her enforcer, clad in a reinforced exoskeleton. The armor's bulk was imposing, bristling with weaponry and servos that hissed with every movement.
"Is it complete?" the enforcer asked.
Dr. Kord nodded, satisfaction gleaming in her eyes. "The analysis has reached 100%. The Scarab's secrets are ours."
She turned on her heel, striding out of the chamber with her enforcer in tow.
Ethan activated his comms. "Maria, I've found Jaime. They've finished analyzing him and left in a hurry. Looks like they've got what they wanted."
Maria's voice crackled in his ear. "Understood. I'm moving into position. Get him out of there."
Ethan dropped from the vent, landing silently behind the containment unit. He examined the restraints holding Jaime, his Scarab scanning the energy fields.
"Hang on, Jaime. I've got you."
Jaime's eyes fluttered open, weak but filled with recognition. "Ethan?"
"Yeah, it's me," Ethan said, working quickly. "You look like hell."
Jaime chuckled weakly. "Feel worse than I look."
Ethan deactivated the restraints, and Jaime collapsed into his arms. "Can you stand?"
"Barely," Jaime muttered. His Scarab stirred, its faint glow returning as it began to repair itself. "But I'll manage."
Ethan hoisted Jaime over his shoulder and tapped his comms. "Maria, we're moving. Start your part of the plan."
Outside the compound, the Bug hovered silently in the darkness. Maria gripped the controls, her face grim.
"Showtime," she muttered.
She activated the Bug's targeting system, launching an array of energy blasts at the facility's perimeter. Alarms blared as explosions lit up the night sky. Automated turrets swiveled to fire on the intruder, but the Bug's cloaking and agility kept it just out of reach.
Inside the compound, guards scrambled to respond, leaving their posts to confront the perceived threat.
Ethan carried Jaime through the now-chaotic facility, moving with speed and precision. His Scarab enhanced his reflexes, allowing him to dodge patrols and evade detection.
"We need to move faster," Jaime said, his voice strained. "They'll figure out this is a distraction soon."
"Working on it," Ethan said.
As they approached an exit, a squad of guards blocked their path. Ethan set Jaime down gently and stepped forward.
"Stay here. I'll handle this."
The guards opened fire, but Ethan's armor absorbed the bullets with ease. He leaped into the fray, his enhanced strength and agility making short work of his opponents. His Scarab generated energy blades, which he used to disable their weapons without killing them.
Once the path was clear, Ethan helped Jaime to his feet.
"Let's go," he said.
After rescuing Jamie, Ethan and Maria regrouped in the heart of the Kord industries compound. The Bug hovered in the facility's central hangar, ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. The group breathed a momentary sigh of relief as they gathered around Jamie, who was leaning on Ethan for support.
"You okay," Maria asked her eyes scanning Jamie's battered armor.
"I'ill live," Jamie replied grimacing, "but we need to finish this, they can't keep using this tech for whatever twisted plans they have."
Ethan nodded "agreed, but we need to move fast, if they have extracted that data they will weaponize it."
Maria's face darkened " if my mother's involved, she already has."
Deep in the facility Doctor Elena Kord and her enforcer worked feverishly in a secure lab. The data extracted from Jamie's scarab had been fully integrated into the enforcer's exoskeleton. Using alien schematics and advanced engineering Elena had transformed the armor into a scarab inspired monstrousity.
The enforcer stepped into the newly upgraded suit. It latched onto his body, its insectoid plating fusing with his flesh. The armor bristled with lethal weaponry, energy cannons, blade-like appendages and thrusters for flight. It's glowing red eyes radiated with Malice.
"Go."Elena commanded, her voice cold. "Kill them all, Especially my daughter."
The enforcer turned is voice distorted by the scarabs influence.
"Consider it done."
Ethan,Jamie and Maria were finalizing their escape when the enforcer burst into the hangar, smashing through a reinforced concrete wall. Debris rained down as the monstrous scarab suit emerged, it's energy Canon charging with ominous hums.
"Get to the plane." Maria shouted, but the enforcer fired, forcing them to scatter. Ethan activated his armor transforming into his ant-like form. Jamie's scarab, still damaged but functional, formed a partial exoskeleton around him. The two friends stood side by side ready for the fight of their lives.
The enforcer charged, his movement blindingly fast. it tackled Ethan, slamming him into the ground. Jamie leaped into action firing a concentrated energy blast that barely scratched the enforcer's armour.
"You think you can fight me with this cheap imitation." The enforcer growled, his voice dripping with contempt.
The fight raged across the compound. Ethan and Jamie worked together to out-maneuver the enforcer, but his scarab enhanced strength and weaponry kept them on the defensive.
Ethan's energy blade clashed with the enforcers metallic claws,Sparks flying with each impact.
"Jamie,go high!" Ethan shouted, ducking under a swing.
Jamie launched into the air firing projectiles that exploded against the enforcer's back, the attack forced him to stagger, but he quickly recovered, firing a barriage of energy blast that forced Jamie to retreat.
Maria piloting the Bug provided aerial suppor, targeting the enforcer with precision strkes, the hangar was soon filled with explosions and smoke, but the enforcer shrugged off the damage, his armor adapting to the assault. The fight spilled out of the compound and into the nearby harbor.
Ethan and Jamie pursued the enforcer across the docks,
their armor flickering from sustained damage.
The enforcer plunged into the water, his thrusters propelling him like a torpedo. Ethan and Jamie followed, their scarabs adapting to the underwater environment.
The murky depth became a deadly battlefield, with the enforcer firing concussive blast that created shock waves, disorienting his pursuers.
Ethan used his scarab claws to latch onto the enforcers back, attempting to rip apart his armor. The enforcer roared in rage, spinning violently to shaking him off, Jamie darted, striking with an electrified blade that disrupted the enforcer's system.
Together they force the enforcer to surface.
The enforcer activated his thruster launching into the sky with Ethan and Jamie in pursuit.
The three combatants weaved through the night, trading blows and energy blast. Ethan armor was beginning to falter, cracks forming along each surface,Jamie wasn't faring much better, his scarab barely holding together.
"We can't keep this up" Jamie shouted
" then we end it now!" Ethan replied grimly.
As the enforcer prepared to unleash a devastating attack,Ethan and Jamie coordinated their final assault. Jamie distracted the enforcer with a flurry of projectiles while Ethan targeted a weak point in its armor.
