Dark Whispers

Chapter 7: Midnight Delivery

The night was deep and quiet, with raindrops gently tapping on the window, and a damp, suffocating air filled the room.

Ding dong—

The doorbell rang precisely at midnight.

Luke sat on the sofa, glancing at the time on his phone. His brow furrowed. Who would be delivering a package at this hour?

After a moment of hesitation, he stood up and walked towards the door.

Outside, there was no one in sight, just a black parcel quietly placed on the doorstep. Rainwater trickled down the edges of the box, and a label without a sender's name was stuck to it. It simply read three words: "For Luke."

A sense of unease crept over Luke, but he bent down and brought the package inside.

Thud—

He placed the box in the center of the living room. Hesitating for a moment, he picked up a fruit knife and carefully cut through the tape.

The box slowly opened, revealing thick foam padding, as if protecting something of extreme value.

Luke took a deep breath and pushed aside the foam.

In the next instant, his pupils dilated and his face turned pale—inside the box lay a severed human head!

And that head... was unmistakably his own!

"Ah—!!!"

He stumbled backward, gasping for air, drenched in cold sweat!

No, it's impossible… He was still alive… But the head was identical to his—same short hair, same scars, even the terrified expression on its face was exactly the same!

The eyes of the severed head slowly opened, locking onto him! Its mouth slightly parted, as if whispering something!

"Still... give it to me..."

Thud!

The bathroom light flickered on by itself!

Luke spun around in shock. In the bathroom mirror, he saw not his own reflection, but that of the decapitated version of himself!

The reflection of "him" slowly smiled a chilling smile, then...

Extended its hand—

Bang!

The door crashed open, and Jamie and Sandra rushed in!

Jamie held a piece of yellow paper covered in incantations, while Sandra quickly drew her gun, scanning the surroundings warily!

Luke collapsed on the floor, pointing at the box, his lips pale. "It... it's my head...!"

Jamie glanced at the box, her face suddenly changing.

The head still lay there, but its eyes were fixed on Jamie, and its mouth slowly curled into a smile.

"Jamie... you... too..."

A chill ran down Jamie's spine. Without hesitation, she took the incantation and pressed it forcefully onto the box!

Sizzle—

The paper burned instantly, and a terrible scream echoed from the box. The eyes of the head widened, as if it were struggling in extreme pain!

Just then, hurried footsteps sounded from outside the door.

"Jamie! Sandra! Hurry up and deal with it! I'm about to die from fear!"

Jack, panting heavily, stood at the doorway, gripping his service pistol. He was pressed against the door frame, pale as a ghost. "What... what the hell is this thing?!"

Sandra shot him a look, rolling her eyes. "Jack, you're a cop—can you stop being such a coward?"

Jack widened his eyes, pointing at the head in the box. "That's a live freaking ghost head! It spoke just now! Maybe the next delivery will be for me!"

Jamie didn't bother to respond, still focused on the box.

The screaming of the head gradually weakened. However, the "Luke" in the mirror remained, still wearing that sinister grin.

"You think this is over...?"

The reflection of "Luke" slowly raised its hand, pointing at Jamie, its mouth splitting into a grotesque smile, showing rows of sharp teeth.

"Next... it's your turn…"

Bang!!!

Sandra shot without hesitation, blasting the mirror with her gun!

The glass shattered, and the room fell into silence.

Jack peeked around nervously and sighed in relief. "Finally, it's over?"

Jamie, however, remained fixated on the shards of glass on the floor, her face dark. "No... it's not over."

Jack's smile froze. "Don't scare me like that…"

Jamie slowly crouched down and, from the glass fragments, saw a bizarre reflection—standing in the corner of the room was a figure dressed in black, silently watching them.

And that figure... had no head!

(To be continued...)
