DANMACHI: The Silence's Heir (OC x Freya)

Chapter 23: Chapter 23-Broken Taboos!

Chapter 23

GODDESS FREYA

"Dinoysus," she called out the very name she had been told a few

The gala of the Harvest familia was a special event that took place every year and all of the Gods and Goddesses were invited to attend the gala, and Freya had decided to grace them all with her presence as well.

Each God was allowed to bring one of their child with them, and as always Ottar had come here alongside her as the rest of the deities and their children looked on with envy and desire, as she walked to the side of Hall to converse with a rather devious God.

"Or should I call you Enyo?" and the said god perked up at that whisper as he turned towards her, straigtening up as the elf beside her stilled at those words.

She saw her trying to reach for a blade, but Freya simply looked into her eyes and smiled, her arcanum roaring at her beck and call as the said adventurer still while Dinoysus himself put himself in between herself and the said elf.

"There is no need for violence," he said with a smile as Freya nodded.

"Indeed," and the pressure was reduced as Dinoysus smiled.

"Perhaps we should discuss it all more privately," and she nodded agreeing with the suggestion, as all four of them retired to a rather private area on the balcony, and she used a bit of her charm to make sure that they would not be disturbed as Ottar and the Dinoysus's familia captain stood back and provided them with the privacy needed for this talk.

Dinoysus was a god of wine, and festivities. Even in the Tenkai he was a troublesome child, prone to outbursts and plots. It seemed as though the man had not let go of his habits even after coming down to the lower world.

The blonde rubbed his hand through his hair as he looked at her with an annoyed face.

"I knew once you began looking into it, you would figure it out," he remarked, and she smiled.

"Afterall, you have ways to make men talk," he taunted and her face twitched as she halted Ottar from crushing the insolent fool that very second, as the smile on her face vanished.

"Do not insult me again. You know very well that I will not hesitate to execute you here," she warned and he chuckled as he nodded.

"And do you think it would make any difference now?" he baled as he leaned forward.

"You have ruined all the fun, why couldn't you just stay out of all this like you had done so for years," he complaint, his frustration visible as his face contorted as all his plans became inravelled.

"I know why. It must be because of him," and her heart skipped a beat as Dinoysus looked into her eyes. Afterall a god could not lie to a god.

"That child. Orario's destined hero. You did always pine after him," and he laughed at those words, as she sat there anger bursting through her.

"You think ending me would earn you a favor with him. Oh, how pitiful for a Goddess of beauty like you. How pitiful," and suddenly the God infront of him stilled as blood began to drip down his face.

"Give me one good reason, that I do not end your miserable life right here and now?" she asked, and even with his life on the line the man did not stop as he smiled and pointed his finger to the side, and she followed his finger and her heart skipped a beat as she saw him—her fated half.

"Killing me will not get him to become yours," Dinoysus whispered, and the sourness of her mood vanished as she laid eyes on him. Inumaki, he looked ravishing in that black and white dress, the labels a dull leather that added to the mystery, as he walked into the Hall, and yet her mood soured as she saw that harlot accompanying him, and for a second, she wished that Hestia should have died that day.

She considered ending her miserable life so that she could get him, but she knew she could not. There was already enough bad blood between them; she did not wish to add to it.

"But I can offer you a way that will make him yours, one that is guaranteed to work," and Dinoysus's whispers, he believed them to be true. As a Goddess, she could judge it well.

A larger part of her told her to end his life right then and there. Evilus was something she did not wish to associate herself with. They were filth, and yet if it was true. If he could truly make him hers.

"How?" the words came out of her mouth, and she saw Dionysus smile as he wiped off the blood from his cheek.

"By taking the ultimate gamble..."

GODDESS HESTIA

In her worry about Bell and his war game, Hestia had fallen about the end party of the Harvest festival, and so when Inumaki-kun showed up, she was rather unprepared for the massive event. She had attended the event over the last few years but mostly to gouge on the free food, but with Inumaki-kun joining their familia, the money problems had vanished rather quickly.

Now, while not loaded, the Hestia family had a rather respectable amount of valis in their bank, and she no longer had to scamper on leftovers, even though she was still massively in debt to her friend Hephaestus as she refused to take Inumaki's help in that regard.

"They are all looking at me," she remarked as she neared Inumaki-kun who was dressed in a formal black and white dress. Indeed, unlike in previous years, her entry was marked with substantial murmurs and head turns as all the gathered Gods and Goddesses turned to face her.

"I didn't think you would show up, Hestia," she looked up, and her eyes immediately narrowed as she saw the Goddess in front of her.

"And why is that Loki?" she taunted as she neared Inumaki-kun, as Loki clicked her tongue.

"Don't you think you should be worrying about that war game of yours? I would hate for a prized member of our expedition to lose their weapons," and that was a jibe at her, and just as she was about to respond, another God stepped in.

"I doubt there is a reason to worry about that," she looked up and saw Hermes joining them, with his familia captain, the famous Perseus, beside him.

"Hermes," she greeted the fellow God, who smiled at her as they all gathered there.

"It is good to see you again, Hestia," and he was one of her fellow Gods that she liked; he was always kind to her even though she knew he had a penchant for doing crazy shit. But unlike the others he had always been helpful to her.

"And why do you say that, Hermes?" Loki challenged.

"You can call it a God's intuition," and wasn't that a God's most dangerous weapon.

His eyes then turned towards Inumaki-kun.

"Also, I must thank you for helping out my children in the dungeon before. I cannot imagine what could have happened had you not been there to take care of Evilus's executive," Inumaki-kun smiled as he shook Hermes's hand.

"Now, why don't we enjoy the party?" Hestia found herself getting lost in the festivities as she joined Hermes and Loki, who ate the food and generally messed up with one another.

Hestia, for the first time, found herself the center of attention with many Gods and Goddesses who had always shunned her before coming to greet her, trying to curry favor with her, and she knew why. They were not coming for her, but for the boy who was her familia's captain.

Thankfully, though Hermes and Loki's presence pushed many of them to stay away until it was time for the dance. Her first dance with Inumaki-kun, who led her through rather expertly, before suddenly Hermes intervened rather unnaturally.

"Why don't I take you away?" he asked, taking her hand and leading her around the Hall before they both resigned to the balcony alone.

"You have no idea what a huge favor I have done for you," Hermes remarked as he sipped wine while looking in at the Hall, making her frown with those words.

"What are you talking about?" she complained as he chuckled and raised a brow.

"You will know soon enough," and he was right. As she stood there, she saw it happen with her own eyes as a certain Goddess descended down the stairs, and the whole dance floor halted, all the Gods and Goddesses too mesmerized by her beauty and elegance as she walked down the stairs in that rather revealing yellow dress of her.

There were quite a few goddesses associated with beauty, but even then, none could match the elegance and beauty of Freya. Her mere glimpse captivated the Hall, and rather than greeting the other Gods and Goddesses, she saw her walk through the Hall toward one specific person.

And as she saw that, she felt a chill run down her spine, for that person was none other than her own familia captain, Inumaki-kun.

"That who.." and she was about to walk off when suddenly Hermes reached for her hand and stopped her.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," he warned her, and her eyes narrowed.

"What are you doing, Hermes?" she asked coldly, and the God of Travel raised her hand.

"Protecting you," and she grits her teeth as her eyes landed on the person behind Freya, the giant famous throughout Orario and the ace of her familia. Ottar, the only level 7 in Orario.

"It is a festival; let this go," and she gritted her teeth as she saw the wisdom in her words as she saw her ask Inumaki-kun for a dance. Inumaki Kun's eyes narrowed before he took her offered hand and wrapped his arm around her back as they began their little dance, much to her annoyance.

"I don't get why she is so obsessed with him," she whispered petulantly as Hermes chuckled.

"My dear Hestia, this goes much beyond an obsession," he remarked as he looked on at their little dance.

"What do you mean?" for despite asking around for it, she had not been able to reason out their histories.

"I heard that you were trying to search for the connection between them," he added, and she nodded.

"But I couldn't find out anything. Supposedly, she hates him, but I do not think that is true," she added, and Hermes nodded.

"I would say it is the opposite," Hermes answered.

"Freya could never hate him. Never. I would argue that he is perhaps the only person in Orario she does not hate," he added as he looked up into the sky.

"I will tell you what I know as a favor because of the favor Inumaki-kun did my children," he added, and she was interested in finding out the truth behind it.

"All of it began with his birth, actually. You must know who she was," he asked, and she nodded. She also knew things that she doubted even Hermes would know.

"Alfia," she named, and Hermes nodded.

"Freya had always been fond of the Hera familia's ace and somehow learned of her pregnancy. Alfia suffered from an ailment that made it rather difficult for her to conceive, but it is rumored that Freya herself blessed the said girl, which made his birth possible in the first place.

"Impossible," she gasped because using their godly powers down in Tenkai was a taboo.

"It is not. To this day, it is not known how, but it was her powers that made it possible for him to be born, and then for that effort, she demanded Alfia hand him over," and that she knew about.

"It all ended up leading to a war game that ended in Freya's loss. And with that, she was cursed by Hera to be confined to the capital," and she was surprised by this, for she did not know about the curse.

"You mean?" she confirmed, and Hermes nodded as she looked her in the eye.

"The city is like a prison to her. She cannot leave it, at least until a certain condition is fulfilled," and she frowned.

"And what is that?" she asked, looking towards the Goddess. When she saw him twirling in Inumaki-Kun's arms, her heart twisted, but when she saw that smile, that relaxed expression, on Freya's face, the anger faded away for some reason.

As a virgin Goddess, one immune to her charm, she could tell that this smile was genuine. She was not pretending. She was not doing this to play a game. But Freya was truly enjoying herself, and she found it all troublesome for some reason.

"I have an inkling, but I was not able to confirm anything," Hermes answered as he followed her gaze.

"Each of us came down to Tenkai for different reasons. Some came for entertainment, others to help the children of this world, and so forth. But Freya, she once said that she came down to Tenkai for one purpose alone," he began as he looked straight at Inumaki-kun, she finished her words.

"...Him."

Back in the underbelly of Orario, a spear-wielding adventurer, one named Dix Perdix, the captain of Ikelos familia, clicked his tongue as he heard the reports about the failure of the attack on the Goddess Hestia.

"You are telling me that Astraea familia members are back in the city?" he asked, and the attacker nodded.

"Yes. If it was not for them, the attack would have succeeded. They are also providing her protection now, making it difficult to attack her," and that was troublesome. Much troublesome.

His little alliance with Zanis had given him access to much manpower through the Soma familia, but it seemed as if he was going to have to cut his losses. They had already caught the Silent's eye, and if they pushed more, that bastard would come after them.

"It seems to me that we must abandon our little friend from Soma familia," he whispered as he rose up, his mind already made.

"Go underground..." but before he could issue further orders.

"Are you Dix Perdix," and he looked back and found himself face to face with a rather giant of a woman, one whose face he recognised.

"I am," he answered confidently surprised that he was being sought by this.

"Ishtar-sama wishes to meet you..." and with that, he perked up.

Ishtar, the Goddess of beauty. The ruler of the red light district of Orario wished to meet him.

"And why exactly does she wish to meet me?" he questioned as he lowered his glasses.

"She offers an alliance against tour common enemy..."

"...The Silent," and that was an offer that set his heart on fire.

"Lead the way then, Man Eater...."
