Chapter 12: Demonic Vices
My focus was on the sheets of paper with projects and notes scattered around in the greatest chaos I had ever seen in my life. This girl didn't have the slightest sense of organization, with sheets on the walls and ceiling stuck together as well as thrown on the floor. Some had simply been discarded in the shape of a ball or torn up and yet they were still there.
The ones that were in use were stained with all sorts of substances and smelled of different things. Her designs had some fundamentals but still had a lot of room for improvement with numerous basic problems in the way they worked.
"How much money do you have?" I didn't turn my attention away and, as if in a banal elevator conversation, I asked.
"Look, I know you're trained to think I always have something, but trust me, I don't have a penny. If I had anything I'd have paid it off by now." A half-truth, she has no money, but these crystals and pieces certainly have some value on the market... basically her fear is that I'll take her only source of income and hope and sell it for a few bucks. More than that, the same smell of nostalgia and childhood permeates the air.
This has been bothering me for some time now, let's try to solve this mystery.let's start with some classic stories. After all, life inspires art.
"Let's see, I guess. A little girl brought up by her father who was certainly a fantastic but unsuccessful inventor, but who ended up poor and unhappy and having to run up debts to support himself. When he died his little girl inherited the debts but is still trying to carry on her father's legacy by proving to the world that he was right. Right?"
I could see her eyes lowering, her nose sniffling and her tears about to flow as she lowered her beret, when out of nowhere, in a mixture of amused mockery, she raised her head to laugh at me and applauded.
"Of all the people so far, you're the most creative, if you want to become a playwright, you certainly have talent. You don't have to worry, my father is very much alive and although he's humble, he leads a very quiet life. I visit him sometimes and I love him very much."
"Of course you love him, I can tell you're daddy's little girl." She rolled her eyes as she went over my story. I wasn't going to accept defeat so easily.
"Your father is alive and encourages you from start to finish, but he's divorced from the mother who raised you, who was a hard-drinking and drug user prostitute who beat you every day, blaming you for her failed life. Growing up as a failure you..."
"Uh-huh, yeah, definitely that, for sure." She cut me off, still in good spirits.
"My parents are happily married and when I visit my mother always makes me cookies with tea and delicious cakes with lots of butter..." Shit, this girl is making my life so complicated, what's the dramatic story this time?
"Well then, a crime boss saw you once, saw that you were an innocent and extremely beautiful young girl, fell intensely in love but you rejected him because you wanted to focus on your work and now you are hiding because he's chasing you around trying to force you to marry him!"
That cocky smile of hers got on my nerves.Shit, I ended up reversing roles, she's the one having fun with me.
"Look, I'm not saying I'm not a tremendous hottie, but innocent is pushing it, not to mention that you've seen how I dress? I don't think people get very horny seeing me in oil and grease.Like would you get a hard-on for that?At least I doubt there was love involved." Yes, i would.Okay, now she's got me... my classic stories are over…
But seriously, I can't be the only one who sees that body under the clothes. She has good curves and is thin, apart from her cocky personality, which can be solved by covering her mouth with panties. She may believe that but I don't fucking believe it.
Everything can be resolved by tying her up and shutting her up.
"So how come you're in debt? What's the big deal?" You can hear the pop of the lollipop being bitten into and falling apart.
"You know how it is... inventions are expensive... studies are expensive...life is expensive…" There's something there.
"On closer inspection, you look a bit young to be working with this. Shouldn't you still be at college or something?" Her eyes were lifeless for a moment, shame taking over.
"College isn't much for me, the people there were a bit snobbish and stuff... the girls were very delicate, feminine and stuff and the men looked exactly like the girls.I probably would beat five of them at same time, barehanded reeling only one my punches. whereas they would be crying on the ground at the simple threat." Are academics that fragile? Or is she just too rough? But why is she still hiding something?
"I don't think I'm missing anything at the end of the day and it was more like a prison"There's something wrong with that.
"And then what?" The words seemed to refuse to come out, she seemed to be eating her own mouth.
"Well, I left there and tried to carry on working in the shed after talking to a former teacher. But there are some, how can I put it, intellectual differences in the process."
"Yes, I can see the differences." She nodded in agreement very quickly, seeing that I was immersed in the narrative and on her side.I still remembered that manager falling to the ground with my kick and apparently she also remembered her own little scene.
"So I started working on some projects of my own that are expensive, these little crystals are a real eye-sore to be honest, very good but the price is ridiculous. So I tried to get some loans from the bank."
"And since you don't have a degree and you're on the verge of being fired, you went after loan sharks."
"They turned me down with their usual elitist talk, a young woman with no academic reputation and no achievements who could barely support herself would only be a loss to them. They didn't even bother to listen to me and my magnificent and revolutionary ideas." Many things were answered, but she was supposed to have money, where the fuck was that?
"What about the money?" I asked impatiently, the girl had done some serious shit and I could see it from afar.
"So I had to look for unusual means, I even find it funny that some who were younger gave me the money very easily saying that if anything happen, I could pay for it in another way.The vast majority of them had a very easy and warm conversation, they even offered me some drinks with some special powder, they said I was going to have a wonderful night or some nonsense like that, but I ended up refusing because I was busy."
"You're not so innocent, you better not even try to deceive me, they clearly want to have sex and are the type that the entire gang do together. "She shrugged, it was worth it in the current situation and she didn't believe it would come to that.
"So you get the money from more than one loan shark."
"You know how it is... it wasn't enough, so first I tried to get money from several loan sharks at the same time. I took money from one loan shark to pay off the debt of another and so it went on. when it got difficult I gambled it all, if it worked out I'd be out of debt after all."
"But I ended up losing it." Her shamelessness was priceless—it made me want to punch her until she passed out. Who does something like that?
"I imagine the college tuition your parents paid for had a similar ending." She scratched her neck, eyes closed, laughing nervously.
"Is it that obvious? I'm no addict but it's a good bet when you can solve many problems at once."
"Or create others."She didn't leave college because she wanted to, but because she spent all her money on gambling.
"Have you actually visited your parents? They know about your debts and where you are?"Her face twitching was a great sign of hitting right on the point.
Fuck off!She is full of debt and had disappeared without giving any news to her parents and a bunch of mobsters are lined up wanting to eat her ass. What a wonderful combination!
Just an idiot like me would get involved with her!I'm going to need therapy after this.
