Chapter 5: Killer Talents in a Worst Case Scenario.
Damn.
...How much does she lift?
I thought looking her up and down with wide eyes. Doing so much as having her in sight was enough for me to notice her overwhelming presence, and I didn't mean it in a physical sense. Though she did have one as well.
And she doesn't lack a fitting body either, those scars and muscles are something else…
Her aura, if I had to choose a word to describe what I was feeling, was of complete and utter power. A power that promised that I would be ultimately and swiftly defeated if I were forced to have a direct confrontation against her.
Oblivious of my thoughts, once I was near enough, the tall white-haired girl turned to address me; an inquisitive gleam brimming within her pale-blue eyes.
"I am Sakura Ogami."
"Oberon V. Voyager, greetings."
I would be lying if I said there wasn't an extra bit of enthusiasm for that particular greeting.
How could I not? Sakura Ogami, the Super High School Level Martial Artist, was known for competing in martial arts tournaments all around the world. And besides, it was wonderful to meet her again after all these years.
And it seems that she too recognised me given by her expression. Though her expression did harden up after a few moments. "The Oberon V. Voyager?" She asked with a raised brow.
...
...
...
...
Fuck... of course Sakura wouldn't be happy. Why would I think otherwise? Such an idiotic and childish ideal. Kill it.
"...Yes." I said lowly meeting her sharp eyes.
She closed her eyes for a few seconds, contemplating something before opening them as she asked me a question. "Did you do it?"
Of course, she would ask me that. "Does it really matter?" I said shrugging. "Whether I did or didn't doesn't change the past. It doesn't change what happened." I tried to give the best smile I could. Yet for some reason, I was unable to match my usual cheeriness. Not even close.
It looked more depressed than happy. And by a long shot too.
"Perhaps, but that does make the ethics of your treatment even worse." She responded in her usual cold tone, meeting her eyes with mine.
"Eh." I said shrugging again and looking off to the rest of our fellow prisoners. "This is this and that was that. Can't change the past so why get so caught up in it." I said nonchalantly. "And besides-" I looked back at her giving a rather mocking smile. "It's not like anyone would give a damn anyways."
...
...
...
Sakura didn't respond for a bit before releasing a sigh of relief I didn't know she was holding as a soft smile came to her face. "Heh, you've never changed huh?"
"...What?" I asked quite confused and slightly incredulously. Why was she relieved?
"I'm glad that you didn't kill her. I was on the fence for a long time thinking about what I'd do once I met you again." Wow, thanks. "But I'm glad that my fears were all for nought."
Huh? I never said I didn't kill her. How would she ever get to that conclusion? O' lord what has become of this girl?
"Hey, Oberon."
Slightly confused by the sudden call out, I looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "Hm? What is it?" Really, I wondered what could she―
I couldn't help but widen my eyes as she started touching me all around my body, doing it so fast that even I lacked the reflexes to react properly.
As things stood, though, while I was sure that my face was still a mask of impassiveness… or at least I hope that it was; my inner thoughts certainly weren't as lucky.
W-What!? W-Why is she doing this? She's… she hasn't grown up to be some kind of pervert, r-right? At least I don't think she looks like that kind of―
! ! !
For a second occasion now, my mind did a 180-degree flip. Bashuflness made way to sharp concentration as a massive amount of killing intent crossed into my system.
Shit, did someone overhear our conversation? Wait... if they did I would have felt this killing intent sooner... Could it be? Did someone already figure out who I am?
On instinct, I suppressed whatever flusteredness I had left while I focused on searching for where it was coming from. Easier said than done, though. As quickly as it appeared, it was gone. Such a sudden change in the atmosphere naturally made me quite upset.
That killing intent… was, without a shadow of a doubt, directed in my general direction, but it didn't feel like it was meant for me... How odd. Though I could certainly attest to that from experience given how many wanted my dead in one way or another.
...
! ! !
Could it be directed at Sakura? If someone doubted her title, Sakura's appearance alone should reassure anyone that she wasn't meant to be taken lightly.
Hmm, perhaps that person is also aware of the dangerous play we've found ourselves in. It's possible that they've already thought of this as a worst-case scenario. And, naturally, Sakura would be the biggest threat here. Though this is just a theory.
And besides, to have suppressed such a large amount of murderous intent that quickly and effectively. Whoever this person is, they were a threat in and of themselves. Though I'm surprised the Sakura didn't make any motion to it. She did notice it, right?
Was she really that busy checking out my body?
...
...
That sounded wrong, didn't it?
"Fascinating." When Sakura was done with… whatever she was doing, she looked back at me with an approving look and a soft smile. I hate it. "I must say, your muscular quality and quantity surpasses by far that of even well-trained high school students, most professionals I've met couldn't boast a body half as healthy as yours." She gave me a pat on the back which nearly made my feet buckle. O' lord woman you're overestimating my strength.
Sakura's eyes suddenly widened as a realisation came to her. "Wait, why have you gotten so strong? No. Sorry. A better question is what happened to you for your body to develop like this." She gave me an apologetic look. I hate it. "Apologies, I wasn't thinking thinking properly. I was thinking about how fortunate it was to see that you've been working out and that you could have been a great workout partner."
She was going to say something else but I quickly cut her off. We didn't need to continue this farce of sympathy any longer. "Nah, it's fine." I gave her my famous shining smile. "I get it. As for your question as to how I achieved what many other professionals couldn't." I looked off to the side as I reminisced about many a day after the... Incident.
"Well, after you've been assaulted and nearly killed almost every day of your life, you'd eventually come to have a physique like mine." I gave a small laugh as I looked back to Sakura. Closing my eyes as I did so. "Well, I'm nowhere near as athletic as you nor any other of the physical-based SHSLs but that's beside the point."
Turning around I looked over my shoulder, my eyes still closed, as I gave a response to one of Sakura's questions. "Though I suppose one day we'll be able to spar. Although I do hope you'll go easy on me. While I may not look it I am quite the frail young man."
She simply nodded, with me doing the same in response. With nothing more said between us, our reunion in this cesspool of annoying tropes came to an end.
=======
Pale skin, dirty blonde hair, and blue eyes covered in white glasses that seemed to look at everyone around him with disdain. His posture also signalled an absolute belief of superiority, with his black suit screaming expensive.
Yep, I had a pretty solid idea of who this was.
Sigh.
"My name is Byakuya Togami." The tall blonde said.
...Wait
...Togami?
hehe
haha
Hahahahahahaha! Well, won't this be fun!
Though that was some half-assed introduction. But I guess that's expected from a rich boy. And I guess it really wasn't a surprise to see one of them here.
Byakuya Togami, the Super High School Level Heir and current heir to the Togami Corporation. To say they were big would be an insult to their standards. Their conglomerate owned several businesses around the world. With their long pacted alliances with commercial associates went just as far and wide. With their overall resources, it's no overstatement to say that their influence was such, that declaring them as leaders of the world was nothing but a fact.
It didn't end here either, as Togami's own merits went beyond the ones backed by his family. Not only he was the heir of the largest commercial empire in the world, but outside of it, he owned and managed multiple operations of his own, making his personal assets generously vast.
While to the average person, or on a quick glance for that matter, he could only look like a spoiled brat and you would be forgiven for thinking that, given that almost every Togami has the personality of one… it was undeniable that he lived through his own hardships to get to the position he was in today.
I would know. The Togami's were regular clients of Theirs. And besides, that little tournament, championship thing their little family does is always a joy to watch.
Putting those unnecessary thoughts aside for now, I wasted no time in following with my own introduction.
Fellow Ultimate or not, I knew that playing with his patience, while not dangerous for someone like me, would make things unnecessarily complicated in the long run. Well, the long run of this odd story.
"Oberon V. Voyager." I said simply giving the psychopathic heir my patented charming smile.
No sooner than I say that did he turn to walk away. As if I was as insignificant as an ant to him. Though As if something clicked in his head, he turned back to look at me. Unfortunately for him though, I knew where this was going to lead to. So I had already made my exit stage left.
Now you might be wondering how I was able to get away so quickly and well when you've been around people that despise your very existence and want you dead. You learn how to get in their blind spots to make a quick getaway. Whether that person activatly wants you dead or not.
Now, onto the last two people. Then I'd be finally done.
