Cyberpunk: The Magnet fruit

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Bring Back the Magnetic Fruit,

The Upper Limit is Invincible!

"Why are you back so soon?"

"You didn't bring anything good, did you?"

"A trip costs 2,000 euros. Don't let me down, kid!"

...

For a moment, countless thoughts flashed through David's mind.

In the stillness of his tiny rental apartment, he could even hear his own heartbeat. A mix of hope and fear churned in his chest. Taking a deep breath, David focused and carefully opened the game interface in his mind.

What appeared before his eyes was the familiar screen of Traveling Frog. His little frog buddy had returned from its trip and was sitting at its desk, reading a book. But what caught David's attention was an exclamation mark blinking in the [Travel Specialty Products] section.

Curious, he clicked on it.

In the previously empty [Special Products] grid, an icon resembling a fruit had appeared.

"This is…"

David's heart skipped a beat.

He immediately focused on the icon to check its details:

[Magnetic Fruit]

Specialty product from the world of "One Piece." A superhuman Devil Fruit that grants control over magnetism, electricity, and metals. Users can create magnetic fields and magnetize objects.

[PS]: The fruit's abilities will awaken based on the eater's strength, requiring further development for mastery.

[Note]: Some of the drawbacks have been eliminated by the system.

"It's real! It's Eustass Kid's Magnetic Fruit!" David exclaimed, his eyes wide with excitement.

As a die-hard fan of One Piece, he instantly recognized it. Eustass Kid—the ruthless captain of the Kid Pirates and one of the three supernovas alongside Luffy and Law—was infamous for his Magnetic Fruit powers. The scene of Kid using his awakened powers to manipulate a pile of scrap metal into a fearsome magnetic demon flashed through David's mind.

Magnetic Fruit.

In a cyberpunk world filled with technology and machinery, this power could be unstoppable.

[Would you like to extract the specialty item: Magnetic Fruit?]

"Yes!" David didn't hesitate for even a second.

A moment later, a 3D projection appeared before him, and a tangible Magnetic Fruit materialized in his hand. It was gray with swirling thunder-like patterns, wrapped in yellow vines resembling magnetic coils.

David stared at it in disbelief. Was this really happening? The Devil Fruit in his hand wasn't just a game item—it was his future.

Money.

Power.

Respect.

Everything he had ever wanted could start here.

So what if Devil Fruits were rumored to taste like the worst thing imaginable? Even if it tasted like garbage, he would still eat it. Survival was the ultimate priority.

With steely resolve, David took a bite.

"Wait a minute..." he paused mid-chew, his eyes widening in surprise. "It actually tastes good?!"

He chewed another piece, realizing that the rumored disgusting taste had been eliminated by the system. All his mental preparation for enduring "eating trash" was for nothing. Chuckling to himself, he quickly devoured the entire fruit.

Belch!

David let out a satisfied burp. Surprisingly, the fruit had filled him up completely. But before he could fully relax, a tingling sensation spread through his body.

It started as a slight buzz but quickly intensified, like a surge of electricity coursing through his veins. His senses sharpened—vision, hearing, touch—all heightened to new levels. He could feel it: his body was now a massive magnetic field.

David experimented, and with just a thought, his body began to levitate a few inches off the bed.

"This... If I master this power, I could actually fly!" he exclaimed, his mind racing with possibilities.

However, before he could celebrate further, his energy gave out.

Thud!

He fell back onto the bed. Clearly, controlling the Magnetic Fruit's powers wasn't something he could master instantly. And the energy consumption? It was massive.

Growl...

David's stomach rumbled loudly. The fruit might have been filling for a moment, but the energy it consumed left him famished.

"Well, looks like the system wasn't lying when it said only some drawbacks were eliminated," he muttered with a wry smile. "But it doesn't matter. Now I can protect myself."

David began to dream of the fruit's ultimate potential. If fully awakened, the Magnetic Fruit could rival or even surpass the powers of other Devil Fruits.

He grabbed a notebook and started scribbling ideas:

Electromagnetic Speed: Harnessing electromagnetic force could theoretically allow movement at the speed of light, similar to the Glint-Glint Fruit.

Invisibility: By distorting visible light through electromagnetic fields, he could become undetectable, akin to the Clear-Clear Fruit.

Force Fields: Creating electromagnetic barriers to block all physical attacks, like the powers of the Barrier-Barrier Fruit.

By the time he was done, he was imagining creating black holes and wormholes.

"Of course, these are just ideas for now," David said with a laugh, closing his notebook. "But hey, a guy can dream, right?"

His stomach growled again, louder this time. He needed food—fast.

David glanced at the vending machine near the door of his apartment. Like all vending machines in the city, it required a coin deposit to unlock its contents.

"These things use electromagnetic locks..."

Smirking, David walked up to the machine. With a light tap of his finger, he focused on generating a magnetic pulse.

Zzzzzt!

The machine buzzed, and the red "Insert Coins" text on its screen flickered before turning green: "Please take your item."

"Success!" David grinned, grabbing some snacks and devouring them on the spot.

Feeling full and a little more confident, David sat down to review the system interface again.

His frog companion's first trip had been a massive success, bringing back the Magnetic Fruit. But as he looked closer, he noticed something alarming: the cost of the second trip had jumped to 40,000 euros.

"Forty thousand?!" he shouted, nearly falling out of his chair. "The first trip was 2,000! This is robbery!"

Doing odd jobs would take years to earn that kind of money. He needed a faster way.

As David pondered his options, his eyes fell on something lying near the bed—a few small, square objects. Picking them up, he realized they were chips from a prosthetic body he'd stolen from a cyber-gang member long ago.

He had sold the prosthetic parts to a black-market clinic in a panic but had completely forgotten about these chips.

"These could sell for a good price," David muttered, pocketing them.

After a quick wash, he threw on his coat and headed out. Even small gains mattered right now.

As he walked through the city's neon-lit streets, David couldn't help but feel a spark of hope. His journey had just begun, and with the Magnetic Fruit's power in his arsenal, the possibilities were endless.
