Cyberpunk Edgerunner: CyberReaper

Chapter 8: Cyber Reaper: Chapter 8: Crossed Blades and Unseen Motives

The fires from the convoy cast an eerie glow on the desolate road as Diablo and Lucy faced one another, the tension between them palpable. The Edgerunners stood back, caught between the escalating conflict and their mission.

Diablo's POV

I studied her movements, every step even the way she's breathing, i see the inside of her body its possible only due to transparent Wolrd. Her eyes held a familiar determination—a reflection of something I'd seen before, in myself.

Diablo: Persistent yet afraid

I tightened my grip on my katana, breathing deeply.

Sun Breathing, Third Form: Raging Sun. my blade shimmering with a faint, Crimson glow as I prepared for the attack.

Lucy: You're not going to attack me.

Diablo: "That depends on whether you're here to fight or talk."

Her gaze never wavered.

Lucy: "You said answers come with a cost. I'm willing to pay it."

I frowned beneath my mask.

Diablo: "You say that now, but you don't know the questions you're asking."

Lucy's POV

I could feel the weight of his words. He wasn't just another merc or cyberpsycho. This one was different—too precise, too human in the way he moved.

Lucy: "Then make me understand. Why are you here? Why target Arasaka convoys and evade MaxTac?"

For a moment, his maroon eyes flickered with something almost…

Diablo: "Because this city needs people willing to destroy the chains, even if it means becoming the enemy."

His voice was calm, but it carried a weight that silenced the night around us.

---

The moment was broken by Rebecca, who growled in frustration.

Rebecca: "Enough with the riddles! If you're so high and mighty, why don't you pick a side already?"

She leveled her cannons at Diablo again.

Maine: "Rebecca, stand down!"

Rebecca: "No way, Maine! This guy keeps screwing us over, and you want to let him walk away?"

Diablo's gaze shifted to her, his stance unchanging.

Diablo: "Your anger clouds your aim. Stand down.

Rebecca snarled, her finger twitching on the trigger. But before she could fire, Diablo vanished.

---

I perform Sun Breathing Sixth Form: Solar Heat Haze. My blade shimmered with intense heat as I moved with blinding speed. In a single fluid motion, I disarmed her weapons. Her cannons fell to the ground with a deafening clang as she stumbled back, eyes wide.

Diablo: Don't be reckless this isn't a game.

I pat her head gently while saying that to her

The Edgerunners froze. They knew I could end this fight in an instant, but I didn't want to.

Maine stepped forward, his massive frame casting a long shadow.

Maine: "You've made your point, but you're messing with my crew. We have a job to do, and you're in the way."

Diablo met his gaze, unflinching.

Diablo: "Your job isn't worth the price you're about to pay. Arasaka won't stop hunting anyone involved in this heist."

Maine: "We know the risks."

Diablo: "No. You don't."

I gestured to the convoy wreckage.

Diablo: "That prototype tech isn't just dangerous—it's alive. An AI that can overwrite cyberware, take control of networks, and kill without lifting a finger. You take it, and you're painting targets on your backs."

Lucy stepped forward again.

Lucy: "If that's true, then why destroy it instead of keeping it out of their hands?"

Diablo: "Because there are worse fates than destruction, Lucy."

Her name slipped from my lips before I could stop it.

MaxTac's Arrival

Before anyone could respond, the sound of approaching engines filled the air. Bright lights pierced the darkness as MaxTac vehicles surrounded the scene.

Rebecca: "Shit! It's MaxTac!"

Kiwi's voice crackled over the comms.

Kiwi: "Get out of there. Now."

Maine: "Move! We'll regroup later."

The Edgerunners scattered, but Lucy hesitated, her gaze locked on Diablo.

Lucy: "Are you coming with us?"

Diablo shook his head.

Diablo: "I've got my own path to walk."

He turned, his Nano suit shimmering as it blended with the shadows.

Diablo vs. MaxTac

I exhaled deeply, perfoming the Sun Breathing, Ninth Form: Dragon Sun Halo Head Dance. My blade blazed with crimson glow , the radianting a searing heat that cutted through MaxTac drones in rapid succession.

Their agents closed in, but their bullets ricocheted off my armor as I weaved through their ranks with deadly precision.

MaxTac Commander: "Target is a high-level threat! Engage with full force!"

I could hear the desperation in their voices,

Knowing that they about to die.

Diablo: You should've stayed home so bye.

One final strike—a scorching, spiraling slash—sent the last wave of drones crashing to the ground.

---

As the last of MaxTac's forces fell, I sheathed my katana and vanished into the night. The AI chip pulsed faintly in my hand, its voice breaking the silence.

AI Chip: "Query: Why spare them?"

Diablo: "Because some fights aren't worth winning."

The rain continued to fall as I disappeared into the shadows, leaving only the wreckage behind.
