Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Ma’am, You Wouldn’t Want…
Lin Yue tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, patiently waiting.
It was 1:05 a.m. Looks like Mr. Hands' wife really loved this club.
As for how he managed to drop that bodyguard so easily earlier—Lin Yue might've found the answer.
[Body]: 10
[Reflexes]: 8
[Technical Ability]: 4
[Intelligence]: 10
[Cool]: 7
The Intelligence stat probably came from meeting V. The rest? Likely from that chaotic fight with Maine's crew.
He hadn't noticed then—too focused on screwing over Hands.
But now it made sense. These points seemed to exist outside his cyberware. Strength felt the most obvious.
Vik's full overhaul of his implants, coupled with the Body and Cool boosts, meant raw power.
No wonder he could hold a gun steady against Maine—it wasn't just the cyberware. Without that strength, Maine would've slammed him into a wall like a rag doll.
His endurance also explained why he didn't bleed out in Dogtown's wasteland.
But… what else could these stats do?
If this world follows the game's logic, attributes reflect physical capabilities, but without a skill tree, I'm stuck.
Cyberware-compatible skills could be game-changers, but unlocking them? No clue yet.
Lin Yue wasn't a smoker.
But the body he now inhabited clearly had a habit. Just for cover, he'd lit one.
Now? He was on his second cigarette.
Tap, tap, tap!
Someone knocked on the window, making him jump. He quickly crushed the cigarette in his palm, the sting making him wince.
"Uh, ma'am."
Lin Yue got out, helping a tipsy Emma into the backseat. She leaned back, rubbing her temple, eyes closed.
He started the car. As they pulled out of the alley, he noticed three cars tailing them—one even sped up to block his path.
Spotted?
"Don't mind them. Just drive, newbie! Out of the city!" Emma slurred.
Lin Yue's heart pounded. Looked like Hands' men. Sandwiched between three cars, he couldn't shake them.
Emma, noticing his frequent glances at the rearview mirror, muttered, "Damn champagne… Why do you look thinner all of a sudden?"
Can't this drunk woman just pass out? Lin Yue gritted his teeth, staying silent.
But Emma didn't seem to mind his quietness. She leaned forward between the seats, her breath—mixed with alcohol and perfume—making Lin Yue's heart race.
"Chérie, tu es belle." Emma whispered, rubbing her temples as she leaned back again.
Lin Yue exhaled sharply. His plan? Drive her to a secluded spot, get the autopilot passcode, and sneak into Dogtown with her.
But the bodyguard convoy complicated things.
"Roll down the window. Turn right."
Turn right? That leads to City Center, not Dogtown.
"Head to the beach," she added.
Lin Yue ignored her, sticking to the lead car's path. Any deviation would blow his cover and ruin his Dogtown entry plan.
"You're the dumbest driver I've ever seen."
Emma's eyes lit up—she was on a call.
"Tell your people to back the fuck off, Wade Bleecker!"
Hands' voice came through the car speakers, "Proceed to Dogtown. Ignore her."
"Then I'll drive," Emma snapped, grabbing the wheel, causing the car to swerve.
"Ma'am, you—"
"Make them back off now!" Emma demanded.
A tense silence followed.
Lin Yue floored it, overtaking the lead car and veering sharply onto a side road.
He triggered a malicious program from a fixer, hijacking the vehicle's controls. Unless a netrunner intervened, Emma's car was his.
The three tail cars screeched to a halt, honking as they watched Emma's car speed towards City Center. Eventually, Hands' men followed at a distance.
Hands must've told them to keep their distance.
"Wait! Who are you?"
Emma, sobering up, finally realized this wasn't her usual bodyguard.
"Hi~" Lin Yue greeted casually.
Emma lunged at him, but he pinned her hands effortlessly, maintaining speed.
Frustrated, she kicked his seat with her heels. "You're that guy?!"
Emma's buzz faded fast. The situation couldn't be clearer.
Lin Yue's eyes locked on the city streets. Familiar landmarks stood tall, but the roads stretched endlessly, making the city feel foreign.
At least my driving's solid.
He sped toward Arasaka's coastal docks. After ensuring no one followed, he slammed the brakes on a dark, deserted road by the sea.
Stepping out, he yanked off his tie—it was suffocating. His suit collar, already wrinkled from Emma's grip, looked worse.
Opening the door, he dragged Emma out. Her heels fell off as her bare feet touched the damp, cold pavement.
She winced, trying to activate her cyberware in defense.
Her punch made Lin Yue's head snap sideways. He slowly turned back, eyes cold and expressionless.
Emma froze. This merc's pissed.
She regretted not opting for more aggressive implants. Corpo execs feared cyberpsychosis, settling for aesthetic, high-end cyberware—but it was no match for a seasoned merc.
Lin Yue felt around her dress, finding a tiny palm-sized pistol. Emma gasped in pain, pleading softly, "I have money…"
"No, ma'am, I don't need money."
After confirming she had no other weapons, he lifted her effortlessly, smiling. "Know who I am?"
Emma shook her head.
"Your lovely husband sold me out in Dogtown. So, tell me—how should we settle this?"
Emma's eyes filled with despair. I'm screwed.
"It's you?! Hands mentioned… you… what do you want?"
Lin Yue shrugged. "Not hard to figure out, is it?"
Emma gulped. Damn it! Why did I always fantasize about dangerous scenarios? Now it's real!
"Let me go!" She squirmed, hoping Hands' men would catch up.
"I can, ma'am," Lin Yue replied calmly.
Relieved, yet uneasy, Emma tried to reach for the hidden knife strapped to her thigh for comfort.
Lin Yue noticed instantly, pinning her against the car.
The knife clattered to the ground as Emma gasped.
He whispered in her ear, "I don't hurt women. Family's off-limits. I've got that much integrity—"
"But… I need a small favor from you."
"After all, you wouldn't want Hands' business to suffer, would you…?"
