Bk2 - Ascension
Life in reality was average. I was one of those nerdy kids who knew too much, read too much, and researched too much. It was just how I did things. Besides the fact that I had an answer to most questions and knew most things, I wasn't a walk-in encyclopedia. I was me.
The nerd generic tag was one that usually got me annoyed back then but not something I minded. Nerds could be cool too. The old days comic action figures portrayed nerds and they were powerful too so I didn't mind being called one.
Then there were the games I played. Worlds that excited me to see, to investigate. An adventure. A sight to see. Most friends usually loved my research and keen sight for these MMORPGs. Still, they called me names that alluded to being a nerd or outrightly. Nothing got me angry anymore. Nothing. It was a hard feat. But I wasn't even actively trying. Like I shrugged off the name tag I shrugged off most things and cared little for any negativity. Being positive was a good trait.
Which was why seeing literal red in my sight was more confusing than anything. Even worse was the fact that my confusion was drowned by the rage boiling inside me. Maybe it was the blood that got into my eyes and all I could see was it. Maybe it was something else. A vein bursting in my forehead.
I didn't know I had even raised my free hand until I gripped something unseen with my palm tightly. It was so strong and hard that it felt like my claws would break whatever bone I had in my palms. A silent scream was locked in my pressed lips.
I couldn't even hear the demon screaming, the time returning, the animals now attacking me to stop my spell, I didn't see the shimmering invincible palm that held the demon within its hold as I squeezed and squeezed and squeezed.
I only saw the red, felt the boiling rage, and kept squeezing. The demon's screams were like a siren warning me that my task was not yet done. I didn't stop nor did I give the foul creatures scratching, smashing, and biting me.
The next moment there was a light, a bright one and my fist was rent apart. I felt a vein in my head burst this time. Felt something jolt through me so hard rattling and boiling my body so intensely I was sure I was having more than just a heart attack.
I hit the ground knee first, my internals on fire. My eyes roved the area, the demon was gone. 'How?'. The beasts were still here. Attacking me. The red was dimmed, and my sight was now blurry and hazy. I found the panther's body. A headless body. I saw something though. Something translucent rise from it and trot up to me. My eyes narrowed. 'It had deserved better'. I shook my thoughts. It was only a game.
'You killed those wolves.' I shook my head in refusal. 'They attacked children. This one was different, scared'. I looked up at it. It was before me. It nudged my forehead. 'You deserved better'.My attention went back to the still-attacking things around me. I couldn't hear the villagers though.
'Have to get rid...' I stopped my thoughts halfway as I tried using Arcane Conflagration. A jolt of pain lashed through my body and like a hammer to the head, I felt pain spike. The last sensation I felt was the searing heat around me, the last thing I heard was the death throes of the twisted things. Notifications tried to appear in my sight. I fell through the illusionary panther and hit the ground.
Darkness came.
...
...
...
**You have gained the reverence of Frierwood village**
**You have gained the gratitude and reverence of a leader**
**You have gained a leader under your banner**
**Ascension tasks completed**
**Ascension on hold**
I woke up with a gasp. My eyes and thoughts took a second or more to settle on what happened and what I was seeing. 'Tried to kill the demon and then pain'. I didn't know whether I succeeded but the lack of a notification said otherwise.
Darkness and white mists swirled around me. The throbbing pain was gone. "Where..." This didn't look like the village. I could feel something hard and sturdy beneath me. I rolled and pushed to my feet eyes finding myself on a circular plate. "Where am my?". The shout carried a cold tone. My anger was quite raw.
Turning around taking in the plate I was on I felt my anger give way to curiosity.
Looking past the plate there was nothing but smoke. Now I was just confused.
'Was this Limbo or whatever passed as the land of death and knockouts'.
"A minute silence for your deed has been completed your ?#?*#?&". A voice boomed with a force that almost tripped me.
"You have made me proud".
"Once more, your children showed the true colors of your face brother".
"?#?&#?&. One more word and you will leave this table".
'So they an see us somehow. Are we like chess pieces under scrutiny to even them?'. I thought trying to find the speaking voices.
"Silence. The child already suspects".
'Close it seems'.
"Your mind will take you far child. The Force says your sight is almost as close to that of The Mother's. Hone it well, for knowledge is power".
"You'd like to believe that eh sister".
The smoke blew into him even as the chattering and arguing continued. Then the scene faded and he found himself staring up into countless faces blocking a ceiling.
"He's awake. The Alkis live!". An older male rushed off shouting into the Village. I grabbed my head as I felt a little numbing sensation there.
"Ouch. What was that?".

**Continent - Sylvan Reach**
Unknown Alpha Tester POV
I found my capabilities went beyond just speaking through animals. I could do the same with people too. Even more, I found myself able to control and direct the will of anything around me. As long as it had a mind it was capable of falling into my control.
Morals stopped me from actually hurting humanoids but aggressive beasts didn't guilt trip me in any way. Unlike with people, I didn't have to wait for acceptance I could just brute force myself in. Of course, it had the consequences of brain death, paralysis, or stroke. Even worse the body choked and drowned from a mental lack of oxygen.
I didn't even know if this world worked with oxygen or something else.
Regardless it was the best thing I could do. The creatures who fell to my mind control became nothing but mindless controlled creatures. I had the towns folk out then down.
I didn't see anything else I had to do here. It was time to go. Meirir didn't like it but I could only assure her that with Inon by her side, I was close by.
The villagers gathered outside to see me go for some reason. I wasn't close to them like I was to Meire's family. Still, I smiled. The notification came back again and this time I didn't refuse.
**Proceed with Ascension**
A bright beam of light struck me and I saw only myriads of colors as I felt the ground vanish between me.
*
**Continent - Lunar Plains**
It was time to go. I could feel it. It was this sense of tug and pull that came in my chest. Something wanted me off to this place. The villagers kept bowing and smiling reverently at me. It was a bit sickening but I thought less of it as it was a game. If we were gods in this place then I would have to get used to this.
Knowing it was almost time to go I went around using my Divine Restoration as best as I could. I would have thought it was a waste of time if not for the smiles from people like Harata who finally gave me a clear-eyed look. With the hand pat, she gave me you'd think I was her grandchild and not an Alkis.
Hanna seemed frightened by her mother's actions but I waved it off.
When it was time to go Seris and gang stood before me. "You owe us".
"Huh". Confused I could only stare.
"We found you, got you through the woods, protected you from the wolves, and even helped you get the materials for that". She pointed at my staff. "Alkis pay up". She made a motion with her hand.
'This brat'. I chuckled mentally. " Indeed you did". Crouching to her eye level I placed a palm on her shoulder. "You lot have been the bravest cohort I have ever seen. The warrior five. And you are the best and wisest leader of all. Wiser that Hanna but that's between you and me". I winked. Seris giggled.
Looking at all of them I couldn't help but smile. They were all kids. In a world like this. A world where players had come and would make decisions that affected them. I knew at that moment what I wanted.
I would play this game and make sure this peace that Hildelith had given these people would stick. If all I could do was safeguard my own. Then I would.
'You lot will be safe. I assure you'. The promise was both for myself and them. Now the question was what to give them to make sure they were both safe and happy enough.
**Granting of Blessings requires a Claim to the Land**
**Would you like to Claim Frierwood Village**
'So that's what she meant eh?'. I chuckled then accepted.
**Frierwood village claimed**
I could suddenly feel a connection to the earth. Looking around I could tell where my territory ended and it was right at the forest edge. The forest the demon came from. I could feel that it was claimed too.
'Was that why she came here, to claim this place? Why ask then? She probably didn't understand anything either '. I chuckled at how an issue of lack of information created a boon for me.
Focusing back on the children I wondered if this blessings thing could work now.
**Unascended *?*#?*# have only ten available blessings**
A list of blessings appeared before me. All of it had something to do with the spells I had learned or something else. One by one I granted the five a minor blessing and then handed a major blessing to the leader, the woodworker who had assisted in planning the flooding control system, and a Middle-aged male in the village.
The kids were looking at themselves with excitement as each one noted the difference.
**Blessings work with faith and are as strong as one's belief**
'Well, that's all on them'.
I rose to my full height and walked to the edge of the forest. A part of me was worried and bothered about the creatures the demon had come with. If they were not the last then the village would be having issues going forward. With the blessings, the villagers would hopefully be able to protect themselves.
**Proceed With Ascension**
I gave them one last backward look before facing forward and accepting. A beam of light struck me. It was familiar. Myriads of light grasping me and ripping me off the surface of Vaustaris.
'The Demon ascended'. It was just wrong and cheating . 'She killed it so gruesomely and then ran like a coward'. I gritted my teeth in annoyance.
**Now Leaving Vaustaris**
**Now Leaving Mortal Realm's**
**Descending**
'It's called an ascension, but here I am descending'.
**Now Crossing FAYHEIM**
**Now Crossing NETHERHEIM**
I twitched at that word. Netherheim sounded like where a demon would go. I had an idea where to start looking. 'Am I seriously considering hunting a demon?'. I sighed at myself. Taking the time I looked around.
The myriad of light beam held me in place as it moved. 'With the notifications naming like four places, how many places were in this universe? Where was ascension even taking me to?'.
If Netherheim was for demons then where was I headed 'Maybe it's not even for demons but something else'.
Another notification came.
**Now Entering RACK OF LIFE**
'Huh'.
**You have arrived**
The lights vanished and I found my sight trying to adjust. The notifications didn't let up on me though.
**Ascension Complete**
**Rewards - True Form Unshackled, Artifacts - Unshackled, Template**
I felt a pressure lift from me. If before I felt heavy I was now lighter. I felt like a mountain had weighed me down before. Like my breath was strained. I felt free now.
**Akashic Records Unlocked**
My sight adjusted slowly and I found my gaze traveling around. Mists gathered below me up to my waist. Trees that looked like better days stood silently. It was the tall tablets of inscribed runes that gave me pause.
The sky here was gray and the clouds were non-existent. It was like an always blue sky but with this place being gray.
**The Primordial Tora sees you: Finally, he arrives**
**The Primordial Haero is pleased with you: Good work boy**
**The Primordial Freyr is amused at The Primordial Haero: Stop talking like mum**
**The Primordial Ozai is apathetic: He did as well as he should have. Still delay in ending the demon was sad**
**The Primordial Freyr grows amused: If you wish to take a dig at me I'm right where brother**
**The Primordial Freyja smiles at you: Such a lovely boy sister. Thank you child, your attempts were heartfelt. I am pleased with your honest desire to preserve life**
**The Primordial Ozai snorts in amusement: Even Freyja knows I'm right**
**The Primordial Freyr shakes his head: All holier than thous as usual brother. Pathetic**
**The Primordial Tora frowns Enough. We're not here for you sniveling tantrums against the other. The actions of the kids are theirs to handle or not. Child come, receive your path**
Lightning, a thick one the width of an Eldertree lanced down from the gray cloudless sky and struck me.
**Personal Perk - Akash Scholar**
**Akash Scholar - You are a master of Akashic lore and ancient magic, delving deep into the mysteries of the Akashic records to uncover lost knowledge and forgotten secrets. Your mastery of such magic alone will allow you to cast Akash of incredible complexity and power**
**The Primordial Tora frowns: that is not what I envisioned as yours**
**The Primordial Freyja giggles: Mind not. Come Child I have a gift for you**
Another bolt of lightning flashed down and I felt a groan escaping me right before it struck.
**Servant Granted** - Ethereal Nightshade Panther
The Nightshade Panther is a spectral beast that once roamed the woods of the mortal realms. Upon its death, its spirit was granted eternal guardianship to an Elder Magi. Now existing as a guardian spirit, the Nightshade Panther protects sacred grounds and the followers of the Elder Magi. It is a creature of pure shadow, with eyes that glow an eerie green and a form that shifts and swirls like mist**
I blinked at the words right before something crawled right out of my chest and formed on my shoulder. I double blinked. 'This is the panther. It's tiny'. The creature was no bigger than my palm. Scooping it up I frowned.
Was this the actual Panther from Vaustaris or something else similar?
**The Primordial Freyja: You will have to nurture him into a magnificent beast. But I assure you once he grows you won't regret it**
**The Primordial Ozai: I too have a gift for you. As a stalwart guardian of life and also one who has shown animosity toward evil I grant you this**
Another bolt of lightning came down. 'Can't gifts come in boxes'. Luckily the lightning this time didn't hurt and even more, it spread from me to the panther in my palm.
**Gifting any of you is frowned on. Luckily the other items you'll soon receive provide a loophole**
There was no description for this new gift either. I frowned but said nothing as the next Primordial spoke.
**The Primordial Haero is thoughtful: Ozai is right. Your fight for life for no other reason but good intentions is worthy of a gift, child**
'I swear if it's...' The loud crack and sizzle of light shut me up. The bolt flashed on me and then rushed through me to the panther.
**A loophole to exploit**
**The Primordial Freyr Since we're all giving gifts. Uhhhh. Fine here's something from me. Tora, if I may**
Another flash of lightning and I just stared as it struck me and rolled right through and into the panther. I groaned. 'Hopefully that was the last'.
**The Primordials stare down the Primordial Dragon**
**The Primordial Molliwag stared back: Fine fine. Unlike you wimps. I do not need to hide a gift**
There was no bolt of lightning. Just a notification that I had a parcel.
**The Primordial Tora sighs: You may go ahead now child. Be watchful of yourself and ma...
**The Mother has entered the meeting - Who are we gifting?**
**The Primordial Haero has left the chat]
**The Primordial Tora sighs in relief**
**The Primordial Freyr and Ozai have left the chat**
**The Primordial Freyja giggles and waves. The Primordial Freyja has left the chat**
**The Primordial Molliwag looks smug: Wimps. Hello mother**
**The Mother: Why are they leaving?**
**The Primordial Molliwag looks unsure**
I just stared at the notifications in amusement It seemed this, Mother figure had chased off the Primordials.
'I did get some stuff from them'. Although it wasn't personal I didn't mind. If the Panther was mine then hopefully its power would assist me. Of course, there was the other parcel from the Primordial Molliwag. Hopefully, it was good.
**The Mother notices you. The Mother has accessed your Records: Rack?**
**The Mother has set the chat to private**
'Uhm.' I was losing half the understanding of what was going on sometimes.
**Rack Of Life. Welcome to your namesake.*"
"Who are you?".
**I'm shocked it's not clear to you**
**The Mother has left the Chat**
The next moment there was an enormous scale of energy gathering around me. I shivered at the sheer scale of it. It was more than thousands of me channeling energy could make.
I shivered.
The energy formed a humanoid shape of gray mist. Long flowing mists formed her hair and facial features. It looked at me and then took a step forward. "So, what do you think of my universe?".
"Hildelith?"
"The one and only".
"Woah". I looked at t the energy that made her up and couldn't help but wonder if it was the same as the energy that powered my Akash. Even more, I couldn't help but notice that the mist that covered up to my waist was similar to the mist that she was.
"Is this your form or..."
"Kind of". The female shrugged
"What's all this?. You told us some things and I'm trying to piece a lot but I'm falling short of some pieces". I rubbed my head.
"You've not checked your records right. It's understandable". She looked around and then waved an arm. "This was the best I could do. My creativity wasn't good enough to make or know what could be better . Welcome to the Rack of Life. The Realm of Knowledge and Information ". She nodded to the tablets standing like colossal mountains.
"What now?". I hoped she'd throw me a bone.
Her head tilted and a soft motherly smile split her cheeks. "Oh Rack". She shook her head. "I can't tell you that". With a wink, she vanished and reformed to my left. "I've done the best I could for you. I see you received my gift". She smirked.
I frowned. What gift? She vanished again and this time she was to my right.
"Creation Online accepts power. But even that is not enough to rise Rack. Your ascension is not complete. While the Prologue is indeed over. But this story, your story, has only just begun".
I didn't like the sound of that.
"Oh, and I hope you like what I did with the gods' concept. I found it better than am old overused concept". She winked and then vanished. I turned to find her new position but there was none. She was gone.
Then a presence brushed through my mind and words filled thoughts in a voice that was not mine.
'Remember Rack.
I stood there silently for the next free minutes if minutes applied in this universe. When I was done with thinking and righting my mind I looked at the little black ball of ethereal fur on my palm.
"Let's see what this entire universe is about little one. Let's see what I am". I sighed. Turning I waded through the mist which I realized was thick and yet had no moisture or weight within it. Took a deep breath and exhaled. "This had better be good Hildelith. Akashic Records".
**Set a Name**
I frowned. " Eh. Rack, nope seems much". I looked around. " Racolith like the kids called me?" I wondered thinking of the brats. " Nope. Rackel. Yep Rackel. Best to leave those brats with that name". Smiling I decided.

I looked everything over and sighed. "A lot of explaining is to be had". The first word expanded.
**Akashic Rank** - Is an entity's placement in existence within the universe. You fall under the Elder Rank**
**Elder Magi - Elder Magis are the children of the Primordial Magi Tora Ironstone. This places them just beneath the Primordial entity they were born from in power scale. They possess all the power and authority next to their parent. They are Voxpin creatures inheriting their parent features and capabilities**
**Akashic Essence** - Essence are of various types. Generally, essence refers to the energy and life of the universe within a being. Akashic Essence is the essence of the Akashic force. This is measured in the total quantity or amount held within an entity.
"So if Akashic is the energy that powers my Akash then that means I don't draw from the environment but from within me". I didn't like that.
**Fledgeling** - Refers to the grade of essence limit held by an entity. A Fledgeling hold limit is a total of 500 essences.
**Realm of Influence** - This is an entity's territory. All areas of influence are marked as landmasses claimed by a being. Each landmass claimed grants a specific realm influence point. Each entity worshipping said being grants a single essence. Realm points multiply the capability of an entity when used. Realm Influence points are calculated as :
**Outpost - 0.5 points
Village - 1 point (Additional landmass, eg Farmlands, quarry, mine adds an extra point)
Town - 2 Points ( Additional landmass, eg Farmlands, quarry, mine adds an extra point)
City - 5 Points( Additional landmass, eg Farmlands, quarry, mine adds an extra point)
Metropolis - 15 Points (Additional landmass, eg Farmlands, quarry, mine adds an extra point)
Megalopolis - 30 Points
Kingdom - 60 Points
Empire - 100
Continent - 500
Planet - 1000
**Note - Points are stackable**
I didn't exactly understand what this entailed. 'If the Realm of Influence points affect the capabilities of an entity. Capabilities are like all an entity can do. My jaw dropped.
If a player had 10 points in a normal game attributes. The realm influence of say 2 would double that. The next would triple and ...shit'. I slapped my forehead.
"What have you done Hildelith?'.
**4th Ring /Mortal Realm/ Origin / Vaustaris - Frierwood Village (2points) (54 essence)**
I rubbed my face as I started calculating the essence coming from the villagers. Even more, why was it here and not in my essence part?
"Maybe I already used it". Considering how low my essence was it was clear that all my spells had been using it down in the mortal realms.
I focused on the next thing. Power and Wisdom.
**Power - This is the description of what an entity can do. As an Elder Magi your power affects your essence and your essence affects you directly. As a Nascent your power carries a point one. Power is increased by increasing the Essence limit and is affected by one's Realm of Influence.
"Levelling".
**Wisdom**- Is the rate of comprehension, understanding, and use of Akash and planning. It is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight and judiciously application of knowledge that leads to thoughtful, effective, and compassionate decisions.
'That's it'. There was nothing more unlike in power that took its time explaining. Sighing I turned to the next part of my records.
**Records of Akasha**
- This is a locked ancient tome that contains the foundational secrets of magic and knowledge. Its pages are filled with Torain symbols and Akash that can only be deciphered by those attuned to the Akashic.
- Effect**: Grants Rack access to powerful Akash and enhances his understanding of magic, increasing the potency and efficiency of his Akash. It also provides insights into the hidden lore and history of the Universe.
- Cool down**: Each page can only be turned after the understanding of the current Akash.
**Shard of Insight**
- A crystalline fragment that glows with a soft, eerie light. It pulses with Akashic energy and grants clarity of thought to its bearer.
- Effect**: Enhances cognitive abilities, allowing one to process information at incredible speeds. It aids in unraveling complex magical puzzles and grants foresight into potential insights
**Willow Cane **
- A staff crafted from the long trailing branches of a tree that creates a calming aura, enhancing concentration and meditation for those who sit beneath them.
**Effect:**
- Enhances concentration and mental clarity, amplifying cognitive abilities and heightening magical perception. Allows the Elder Magi to solve complex magical puzzles, decode ancient texts, foresee potential threats, and cast spells more efficiently with reduced energy consumption.
**Cooldown:**
- Negates the use of Akashic energy by an Elder Magi for better-streamlined power and effect.
"That's not right. I harvested my staff's materials myself. Those were Eldertree branch. And it's nerfing Elder Magis". I wasn't sure where this was going. It was best to see what else was selected and then try to cast a spell to see.
**Essence Orbs** - These are found in Slain enemies of all kinds. Each orb is of a different grade and holds the essence of a greater or smaller amount depending on its grade. They can be used to enhance powers, perform miracles, create divine artifacts, or power Holy Sites. The higher the grade of the orb, the more essence it contains, providing greater benefits.
**Essence Orb Grades**
1. **Fledgling Orb** - 10 units
2. **Novice Orb** - 200 units
3. **Apprentice Orb** - 1000 units
4. **Adept Orb** - 5,000 units
5. **Expert Orb** - 90,000 units
6. **Master Orb** - 500,000 units
7. **Grandmaster Orb** - Unit Capacity**: 1,000,000 units
8. **Legendary Orb** - 100,000,000 units
9. **Mythic Orb** - The highest grade orb with over 500,000,000 units
The arrangements of the orb grading were uncalculated. It was either the Creator didn't want anyone to guess the higher essence amount or just didn't care.
"Looks like my artifacts have their storage slots. Why not just place them in the inventory?". I didn't understand. Sighing I turned to my inventory and took out the essence orbs. They were all tiny and focusing on them showed they were not even up to fledgling orbs.
"I would say I see why first ranks are called Fledgelings but even that is a disrespect to the ranks". The orbs were so weak that I felt annoyed by them. One caught my eye though.
" Is that...a novice orb". I separated the essence orbs from the rest and smiled. This was better. With over 200 units I could now refill my essence if I was lacking.
"Wait. How am I meant to level up?".
Since it was unclear and I remembered the warning of using essence orbs when I was full I didn't dare test absorbing the one I had. The last item in my inventory was a card. A Gray card. It reminded me of the one Hildelith had me choose in the cottage room. Thinking about it now I couldn't believe I hadn't figured it was her.
**Template of the Homunculi**
**Sip Essence into the card to activate**
"Hmmh". Curious I did as instructed. It wasn't hard. Essence had been what I was controlling all that time in the mortal realms. Was what activated my Akash. Plus according to my Racial abilities it wasn't something that came hard to us Elder Magis.
The Template flared to life with a grayish-gold glow and then burst apart in an explosion of energy reminiscent of Hildelith's appearance and disappearance.
Hovering in the spot where the card previously floated was a fairy. The small kind that made my artifacts but with a slight difference.
'Its male'.
The thing took a good look around it then focused on me. A reserved smile split it's tiny face right as it's mouth parted and it spoke.
"Well Hello. I'm Xenos'tris'gahvin'nemon at your service Son of Tora". It bowed with the air of an Old British Butler.
