Creating Civilization In My Private Island

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Hunting The New Threat (part2)

The chiefs gather around the fire, the glow casting sharp shadows across their hardened faces. They sit in silence for a moment, each processing the weight of the decision before them. Rylis stands at the edge of the circle, watching as the conversation shifts to strategy.

"We'll do it at night," Chief Amara finally says, her voice low but firm. "That's when we're at our strongest. We know the dark better than any predator in this forest."

Chief Lorka nods, his arms crossed over his chest. "But we also know that this creature can sense its surroundings in the dark, as well. Rylis said it moved faster than anything he's ever seen. If it can see us before we see it..."

"We need to adapt," Amara interrupts. "We'll be patient, silent. We'll use our knowledge of the forest to trap it, draw it into the open. Once it's there, we strike hard and fast."

Tygari leans forward, his deep voice cutting through the night air. "Me and Barok will take the lead. Our strength is enough to hold it down. Farin, you and Lorka's second can wait to where the trap is."

Farin grunts in agreement, his body tense, ready for action. Rylis watches him closely, admiring his calm confidence but wondering if even Farin knows what they're truly up against.

The night air is thick with anticipation as the chiefs, their strongest hunters, and Rylis prepare for the hunt. Tygari's second, a hulking figure named Barok, stands beside his chief, his eyes scanning the darkness. Barok is nearly as large as Tygari, his muscles rippling beneath his fur as he tightens his grip on his spear. Lorka's second, Jynra, is smaller but quicker, her lithe frame tense and coiled like a predator ready to pounce. The two stand in silence.

As they gather near the cave where the creature was last seen, Amara takes a deep breath and addresses the group. "Remember, we need to work together. Tygari, you and Barok will draw it out."

Without another word, the group sets their plan into motion. The air is still, heavy with tension, as Tygari and Barok silently position themselves at the mouth of the cave, the dark entrance looming before them. Their breaths are slow and steady, their muscles coiled with readiness. Behind them, Amara, Rylis, Farin, and Jynra fan out in the shadows, hidden among the trees, waiting for their moment.

Amara gestures toward Rylis, her voice a whisper. "You know what to do. Stay close but out of sight. We wait until it's fully in the open."

Rylis nods, his grip tightening on his spear. His heart pounds in his chest, but he forces himself to focus. This is what they've trained for. He feels the weight of the moment but knows he cannot falter.

Tygari gives a signal to Barok, and the two step into the cave's entrance, their forms swallowed by the dark. Inside, the air is thick with the stench of the creature—an acrid, earthy smell that clings to the walls. The low, guttural sounds of its breathing echo from deep within. Tygari motions for Barok to move left, and they split up, their steps careful, their senses heightened.

The creature stirs. There's a rustling sound, then a sharp metallic clicking, like mandibles grinding together. Tygari signals Barok—now. Barok slams the butt of his spear into the stone floor, creating a sharp noise that reverberates through the cave.

A screech pierces the air, and in an instant, the creature bursts from the shadows, its massive, armored body charging toward the entrance. Tygari and Barok barely dodge to the sides as the beast barrels out of the cave, its speed terrifying, its mandibles snapping dangerously close to their heads.

The creature's form explodes from the darkness, its segmented legs churning up the dirt as it charges toward the entrance. Tygari and Barok leap to opposite sides of the cave, barely avoiding the massive mandibles that snap at the air where they had stood just moments before.

Tygari grips his hammer-like weapon tightly, the heavy iron head gleaming faintly in the moonlight as the creature barrels toward the open. With a deep growl, he surges forward. "Barok, now!" he barks.

Barok follows Tygari's lead, positioning himself on the opposite side of the creature, his spear poised. Tygari swings his hammer with a mighty arc, the force of it slamming into the creature's armored head with a resounding clang. The impact is so fierce it echoes through the night, sending a shockwave that reverberates down the creature's body. It screeches in pain, stumbling as it tries to regain its balance.

"Go! Now!" Tygari roars, his voice cutting through the chaos.

The creature screeches in fury, its metallic mandibles snapping violently as it shakes off the disorientation from Tygari's hammer blow. Its eyes gleam with anger, locking onto Tygari and Barok. Without hesitation, it lunges forward, its massive form crashing through the trees, legs pounding the earth in pursuit.

"Run!" Tygari shouts, already bolting toward the trap. Barok is right behind him, his heavy footsteps thudding against the forest floor as they weave through the thick underbrush, the beast gaining on them with terrifying speed.

The ground shakes as the ant-guard charges after them, its sharp, clawed legs digging into the earth with each stride. Branches snap, and leaves whip through the air as the two hunters race toward the pit they've carefully prepared. Tygari risks a glance back, seeing the monstrous creature closing in, its mandibles snapping inches from Barok's heels.

"Keep going!" Tygari growls, his muscles straining as he pushes forward. They're almost there.

Ahead, the ground dips slightly, marking the edge of the trap. It's a deep pit, lined with sharp wooden spikes, hidden under a thin layer of leaves and branches. They've worked tirelessly to ensure the creature would fall straight into it, a perfect snare.

"Jump!" Tygari yells as they reach the edge.

He and Barok leap over the pit, landing on the other side just as the creature barrels forward, its enormous body unable to stop its momentum. With a thunderous crash, it plummets into the trap, dirt and debris flying into the air as its armored body slams into the spikes below.
