Chapter 84: An Encounter with a Real Summoned Heroic Spirit

“Well then, this is the gift from our Mage’s Tower to Your Majesty, along with a new patent system approved unanimously by the Tower itself. According to the original imperial decree, which states, ‘Mages shall not interfere in politics, but have the right to establish laws exclusive to mages,’ His Majesty shouldn’t object. As for the specifics regarding long-distance communication technology and patents, Ska will discuss those with you. I’ll go back to filming now.”

With that, Edward prepared to cut the long-distance communication line.

But just then, the Emperor, unable to contain his curiosity, spoke up: “Baron Durin, could you allow me to watch your filming process? Consider it as satisfying a bit of royal curiosity.”

“Uh… well…”

Edward didn’t see any harm in letting someone watch, but he hesitated, imagining that he might accidentally broadcast the Headless Horseman.

Seeing this scene, before the nobles were ready to denounce his attitude of not taking His Majesty the Emperor seriously, the old Emperor took the lead and said: “Are you perhaps hoping for a reward? Then, Baron Durin, what kind of reward would you prefer? Perhaps a royal marriage?”

“What?”

Edward, hoping for something more enticing, was stunned by the suggestion of a wife. “No, no! I’ll show you, but please, don’t do that to me!”

Marriages among nobles were common, and royal marriages for knights who had earned honors were practically tradition, adding fresh and powerful bloodlines to the royal family.

The idea thrilled most rulers.

To see a mage like Edward earn such an honor left many nobles envious, though they were quickly angered by Edward’s horrified reaction.

In the end, the Emperor just smiled as Edward slowly adjusted the feed to show a lavish hall, preparing to resume the filming process.

Meanwhile, Ska returned quietly to his seat.

Unlike before, every noble’s gaze toward him had changed from ridicule to a mixture of amazement, speculation, and jealousy.

For those in the know, Ska appeared to be an ordinary mid-level mage, yet he had collaborated with the infamous Baron Durin to create a groundbreaking invention.

Some nobles admired him; others envied him bitterly, believing he was merely lucky to have partnered with Edward.

They forgot that, while they were idling away their lives at the Mage’s Tower, Ska had dedicated his youth to studying magical alchemy under his brother’s guidance.

Their differences lay not in talent but in the effort each had invested.

Edward resumed filming, unperturbed by the invisible audience observing him, as he wasn’t concerned about anyone stealing his movie technology—in fact, he would happily collect more patent fees from them if they tried.

Soon, the actors took their places for a critical scene: the summoning of a Heroic Spirit.

Inside Einzbern Castle

“That simple ceremony will do?” Irisviel asked in surprise, watching from the side, finding the simplicity unexpected.

“Though it can’t be taken lightly, summoning a servant doesn’t require an elaborate ritual,” Kiritsugu explained, while carefully checking that the summoning circle drawn with mercury had no distortions. “The Holy Grail is responsible for bringing the heroic spirit into the world. We, as Masters, only need to anchor the spirit in this world and supply the minimal mana needed to maintain its materialization.”

“I see…”

Understanding dawned on Irisviel as she watched Kiritsugu place a legendary relic—a scabbard said to be from a sacred sword—onto the altar.

“There, it’s perfect.”

As if sensing Kiritsugu’s intent to summon, the Holy Grail responded.

His expression tightened, and the magic crest on his hand, inherited through the Emiya line, surged with mana as he began his incantation:

“I hereby declare, hear my command! My fate shall be intertwined with your sword!”

“By this oath, I swear. I seek all the good of this world. I seek the eradication of all evil!”

“Thou art trapped by three binding words, seven heavens clad in restraint! Come forth, Guardian of the Scales!”

Thunder and lightning seemed to crack open a door in time and space.

As mana gathered from the atmosphere into a corporeal form, the Knight King from an ancient past materialized!

A golden-haired girl stood on the now-glowing summoning circle and declared, “Are you my Master?!”

With her clear voice resonating, the scene drew to a close.

With the Heroic Spirit summoning scene complete, Edward prepared to let the crew take a break, intending to clean up the ritual circle’s markings alone.

Just then, a surprising phenomenon occurred.

The summoning circle—originally a mere prop, recreated from memory and meant to serve no real purpose—began to glow faintly, emitting an astonishing surge of mana!

The illusion for the summoned character was created by Edward through a transportation spell, so the ritual circle itself should have done nothing.

Yet, to everyone’s amazement, including the nobles watching remotely, a faint figure began to emerge from the circle!

“This…”

The lead actors, Chase and the silver-haired woman, were positioned closest to the circle as the main cast.

They stood there, stunned by the eerie sight unfolding before them, and then—

“— —!”

A gust of wind, like ghostly laughter, suddenly swept through.

The Headless Horseman, sensing something terribly wrong, drew his sword and rushed towards the hall.

Seeing the shadowy figure materializing in the mist, Edward, who had been confident the summoning ritual couldn’t work, gulped and muttered, “Damn, this is insane! Don’t tell me I accidentally summoned a real Heroic Spirit just for a movie scene?!”
