Coroner: A Detective Conan Fanfiction

Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Under Lin Xinyi's relentless questioning, Ishikawa's psychological defenses completely collapsed.

This so-called "detective" wasn't just deducing the truth—he was systematically presenting solid evidence.

And in the face of these ironclad facts, any attempt at denial was utterly futile.

Yet, Ishikawa was still unwilling to accept defeat.

He had been just one step away from escaping suspicion—how could he fall short now?

"No, no! I'm innocent!"

"If you don't believe me, check the mall's surveillance footage!"

As if grasping at a final lifeline, Ishikawa suddenly thought of something:

"The surveillance footage doesn't show me entering the mall with Aoki!"

"If you claim I killed Uchida and threw him off the rooftop, then explain this—"

"How did I transport the body to the department store rooftop without ever being seen on camera?"

Ishikawa hysterically demanded an answer.

This was the deception he had meticulously planned—his last trump card.

He had gone through so much trouble to set up this elaborate trick. If they wanted to catch him, shouldn't they at least solve this puzzle first?

That was what Ishikawa had believed.

But faced with his desperate questioning, Lin Xinyi merely chuckled in disdain.

"Hah… resorting to petty tricks and expecting an explanation?"

"You've read too many detective novels."

"In reality, the more complex the method of murder, the more traces it leaves behind."

Years of experience had taught Lin Xinyi that the hardest cases to solve were often the simplest ones—random stabbings by unknown assailants, where the perpetrator immediately fled the scene.

If there was no surveillance footage, these cases could give investigators nightmares.

As for those self-proclaimed geniuses who put excessive effort into fabricating alibis, refusing to flee after committing murder, and even pretending to be uninvolved at the crime scene—

Nine out of ten ended up in prison.

The remaining one was sentenced to death.

And in Lin Xinyi's eyes, Ishikawa was the dumbest of them all.

"You only thought about fooling the eyes of investigators."

"But you completely forgot about the eyes of science."

"You want me to explain your murder trick?"

"Why would I even need to?"

Lin Xinyi scoffed and continued:

"The victim's death has already been confirmed as a homicide."

"By measuring body temperature, we've determined the exact time of death."

"The victim's fingernails contain your skin fragments, and your body has scratch marks from the struggle."

"More importantly—can you provide an alibi for the victim's actual time of death?"

The cause of death was clear. The time of death was clear. The presence of the perpetrator's DNA was clear.

Ishikawa had only fabricated an alibi for the staged "suicide," not for the real time of the murder.

A complete chain of evidence had been established.

They didn't need to figure out his murder method—these facts alone were enough to convict him.

"H-how could this be…?"

"My entire plan was completely useless…"

Ishikawa fell into total despair.

He had watched a thousand episodes of Detective Leftmonji to come up with this elaborate scheme—

And yet, they didn't even bother to follow the process or unravel his trick before catching him?

This isn't detective logic!

But truthfully, even though Lin Xinyi saw him as a fool, Ishikawa had been quite shrewd in his planning.

Japan had an extremely low number of forensic pathologists. Families generally opposed autopsies due to cultural beliefs, resulting in an autopsy rate of less than 12% for unnatural deaths.

In other words, with some professional knowledge and effort, a murderer could stage a suicide scene and have a 90% chance of avoiding further investigation.

And that was in the real world.

In this universe, where the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department was inexplicably nerfed and forensic examiners were practically nonexistent, the success rate of faking a suicide was even higher.

For someone like Ishikawa, who not only staged a suicide but also forged an alibi, deceiving the authorities should have been easy—

As long as he didn't have the terrible luck of running into a legendary detective.

But this time, his luck was abysmal.

Instead of being caught by the renowned detective Kudo Shinichi, it was a strange man obsessing over the corpse who delivered the fatal blow.

Ishikawa couldn't accept this outcome.

"No! No! I'm not the killer!"

"Detective Kudo Shinichi himself confirmed Uchida's death was a suicide!"

"Heisei's Holmes said it—so it must be true!"

He screamed in desperation, as if invoking Kudo Shinichi's name could somehow overturn his fate.

"Hey, hey—"

"Don't drag me into this just because you're cornered."

Kudo Shinichi, who had been quietly spectating, felt his head throbbing.

What did he mean by "Kudo Shinichi confirmed Uchida's death was a suicide"?

That was a lie to deceive you!

How could I not see through such a simple trick?!

Now, thanks to Ishikawa's loud outburst, the onlookers finally took notice.

"Wait… Kudo Shinichi is here?!"

The famous detective, who had been on the sidelines for a while, was finally discovered.

But this time, the gazes on him weren't filled with admiration.

Instead, they were full of shock.

"So… he didn't see through the truth?"

"Even a famous detective can lose to a criminal?"

Hearing the murmurs, Kudo Shinichi covered his face in frustration.

My reputation is ruined! My reputation is ruined!

He was annoyed, yet helpless.

After all, he had completely lost this round.

Following his usual method, he had started from the crime scene, meticulously analyzing clues, using intelligence and imagination to unravel the murderer's deception.

But Lin Xinyi had ignored all that.

Instead, he had simply examined the corpse and arrived at the truth.

In the face of such a direct approach, all of Ishikawa's carefully crafted misdirections became nothing more than a joke.

"Sigh…" Kudo Shinichi let out a small sigh.

But deep inside, his desire to challenge Lin Xinyi only grew stronger.

Meanwhile, the other "loser" in this scenario—Ishikawa—finally calmed down.

By now, he understood he couldn't escape his fate.

But he wasn't ready to give up entirely.

After a brief moment of contemplation, he looked up again—

The murderous expression on his face was gone, replaced by an anguished, remorseful look.

His eyes welled up with tears as he choked out:

"Yes, I did it."

"I killed Uchida. I was afraid of getting caught, so I staged the scene to look like a suicide."

Ishikawa finally admitted to the crime.

Not only that, but he suddenly fell to his knees, clutching his face, sobbing loudly:

"It's all my fault! I—I shouldn't have bullied Uchida…"

"The police and the school found out about our bullying, and we were about to be expelled."

"The only way to stay was to get Uchida's forgiveness."

"So the three of us thought we'd just scare him, force him to sign a letter of forgiveness."

"I only wanted to teach him a lesson, but… but…"

"I lost control. I hit him too hard. I— I killed him…"

His voice trembled.

His tears flowed—genuine and plentiful.

"What a bastard…"

"What a waste of acting talent."

Lin Xinyi nearly laughed out loud.

He saw through Ishikawa's ploy immediately—

If he couldn't escape the charge, he'd at least make sure it was reduced.

But Lin Xinyi cut through his performance coldly.

"Ishikawa, ask yourself—"

"When you attacked Uchida, did you truly not realize you were killing him?"
