Conqueror’s Desire

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Closer the Distance, the Louder the Heart

The sea breeze blew gently, carrying the salty scent of the ocean. The campfire on the beach had begun to die down, creating an even more intimate atmosphere.

MC sat leaning against a large rock, while Nami remained beside him. Her cheeks were still slightly flushed from their earlier conversation, but she made no effort to move away.

The silence between them wasn't awkward—it was comfortable.

Nami pulled her knees to her chest, gazing at the fading fire. "Hey… where do you think we should go next?" she asked softly.

MC turned to her. "I don't know. You know this world far better than I do."

Nami smiled slightly. "Then… how about staying with me?"

MC blinked in surprise. He looked at Nami, who appeared softer and more vulnerable than usual.

"Are you serious?" he asked.

Nami nodded slightly. "I've gotten used to sailing alone, but… ever since you came along, it doesn't feel so lonely anymore."

A warmth spread through MC's chest. He never expected someone like Nami to say something like that to him.

Suddenly, the ocean breeze blew stronger, pressing Nami's thin tank top against her body.

MC quickly averted his gaze, but Nami caught his reaction and smirked playfully. "Hey, were you sneaking a peek just now?"

MC chuckled, trying to play it cool. "I was just watching the waves behind you."

Nami raised an eyebrow. "The waves? Liar. Your eyes weren't looking at the sea at all."

She leaned in closer, closing the distance between them until only a few centimeters remained.

MC could feel her warm breath against his skin.

"I wouldn't mind if you wanted a closer look," Nami teased.

MC swallowed hard. This was definitely a trap.

Nami chuckled softly, then pulled back slightly. "You're too easy to mess with, idiot."

MC exhaled in relief, but at the same time, he felt something unfamiliar stirring within him.

Before, he had always seen women as trouble—but with Nami, it felt different.

Without thinking, he murmured, "You're dangerous, Nami."

Nami turned, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? Dangerous how?"

MC gave a small smile, then ran a hand over his own cheek. "Because for the first time… I'm afraid of falling for someone."

Nami's eyes widened slightly. A brief silence passed before she smiled faintly and whispered, "That's not such a bad thing, is it?"

MC didn't answer. He simply gazed at Nami, and she didn't look away either.

The night breeze carried emotions they could no longer ignore.

That night, something between them changed forever.
