Chapter 11: Chapter 1 Ashes of the Enemy

Chapter 1: Ashes of the Enemy

As dawn breaks, the aftermath of the Zerynthian raid is evident. The village of Hi no Kuni stands scarred but intact, thanks to Yuuto's leadership and powers. The villagers rally to rebuild, their spirits unbroken. Amid the ruins, Yuuto surveys the battlefield, reflecting on the cost of their survival.

Among the captured Zerynthian warriors is a young soldier named Kael, who surprises Yuuto by speaking a few words of his native Japanese. Intrigued, Yuuto questions him and learns that Kael had heard strange tales of gods descending from the heavens—a fire deity, in particular—matching Yuuto's description.

Despite initial distrust from the villagers, Yuuto decides to spare Kael and the other prisoners, offering them the chance to integrate into Hi no Kuni. Kael accepts, swearing loyalty to Yuuto, while others reluctantly follow. This controversial decision sows seeds of unease among the villagers, who fear betrayal.

In the weeks that follow, Kael proves his worth by teaching the villagers new techniques in hunting and crafting. His insights help strengthen Hi no Kuni's defenses, earning him a place within the tribe. Meanwhile, Yuuto's focus shifts toward forging alliances with neighboring tribes, knowing the Zerynthians will return.

The chapter ends with a mysterious emissary arriving at the outskirts of Hi no Kuni, bringing news of a powerful warlord in the northern mountains. This warlord, impressed by tales of the fire deity, seeks an audience with Yuuto.
