Chapter 24: Chapter 24 Who Doesn’t Trust You?
Gu Zhihan broke out in a cold sweat and quickly held back the eager girl, “No, you can’t, cows are specifically for milking.”
Even if they could eat it, they didn’t have the money to buy it, okay?
“Alright,” Mengmeng’s eyes filled with a hint of disappointment, but soon she was distracted by something else, “Husband, husband, let’s go buy fish instead!”
Mengmeng pulled Gu Zhihan with her to the riverbank, pointing at the fisherman’s bamboo basket brimming with carp.
“This…” Gu Zhihan was about to speak when the nearby fisherman on a bamboo raft had already drifted over, grinning at Mengmeng, “Little girl, these fish are 50 yuan each and that includes cooking.”
“Fifty?” Upon hearing the price, Mengmeng’s clear eyes instantly widened in surprise, clearly not expecting it to be so expensive. She fumbled in her pocket, but in the end, she only managed to pull out a coin.
“Little girl, are you buying or not?” the fisherman asked again.
Mengmeng looked down at the shining one-yuan coin in her hand; that amount of money probably couldn’t even buy a fish tail…
“Not anymore,” Mengmeng quietly stuffed her coin back into her pocket.
“Mengmeng, Gu Zhihan, come line up, it’s time for lunch!”
Just then, Teacher Tao’s voice could be heard not far away.
“Husband, let’s go,” Mengmeng said, taking the opportunity to lead Gu Zhihan away from the riverbank.
As she walked, she kept looking back at the fish basket, unable to let go.
If she had the money, she would have definitely eaten it.
“Do you really want to eat fish that much?” Gu Zhihan looked down at the little girl who was half a head shorter than himself.
“Yes,” Mengmeng nodded earnestly. Carp was her favorite, but the thought of the price made her pout, “But it’s too expensive, I can’t afford it.”
Her parents’ salary was only three to five hundred yuan a month; spending fifty yuan on a fish was just too extravagant!
“If you don’t have money, then don’t even think about eating,” Gu Zhihan said coldly as usual, but his eyes swept casually behind him, memorizing the appearance of the fisherman they had just met.
“Hmph!” Mengmeng couldn’t help but huff loudly.
The kindergarten had already ordered lunch at the farm stay. By the time Mengmeng and Gu Zhihan arrived, the bamboo house was already filled with many children and their parents sitting there waiting for their food, and some were ordering individually from the menu.
Only Mengmeng was still looking in the direction of the river, seemingly pondering over the fish she couldn’t afford just now.
Gu Zhihan’s dark eyes glanced at her before he stood up from his spot and said to her, “I’m going to the bathroom; you sit here and don’t run around, do you hear me?”
Gu Zhihan, the little guy, spoke like a mini-adult, instructing the little girl from a lofty position.
“I know,” Mengmeng nodded. Seeing that he seemed a bit concerned, she blinked and pretended to stand up to accompany him, “If you really don’t trust me, then I’ll go with you to the bathroom?”
“Who doesn’t trust you!” Gu Zhihan snorted, pushing her back into her seat, “Sit tight.”
He didn’t need her following and getting in the way!
No sooner had he finished speaking than he walked out with his arms crossed.
If Mengmeng had followed him at that moment, she would have discovered that Gu Zhihan was not going towards the bathroom, but towards the riverside they had visited earlier…
When he returned, the meals ordered by the kindergarten had already started arriving, and the bowl in front of him was piled high with a variety of dishes, looking like a small mountain from afar.
And the person “building the mountain” was still busily adding more to his bowl.
