EP5. Adventure City (1)
EP5. Adventure City
Sean actually tossed and turned quite a bit last night and didn’t get a good night’s sleep.
Because it was the first time since I was really young to sleep in the same room as Levi.
Fortunately, there were two beds, so the misfortune of sleeping in the same bed did not happen.
Shawn thought. When he was camping out on his way to Laes, he was not at all ashamed to fall asleep watching the night sky with Levy, but when the night sky turned to the ceiling, it felt completely different.
Is it because you realize that there are only two of you in a small space? Sean couldn’t answer the question.
When Sean got up from bed tired, Levy wondered if it was because of the sudden change of bed, or maybe it was because of the same reason that she looked pretty tired as well. Of course, Sean wasn’t smart enough to ask that.
Sean and Levy got up and went to the first floor to have breakfast. As much as money was left over thanks to the driver, I ordered and ate it to my heart’s content.
I felt like I had a really good meal for the first time in a long time because I wasn’t full on the way back.
I just wanted to rest a little longer at the inn, but I had something to do today, so Sean and Levy pulled their heavy bodies out.
The place the two of them headed to was the Silent Wolf Clan, the first place they came to when they came to Laes yesterday. Those who stood guard at the entrance probably had familiarized themselves with Shawn and Levy’s faces yesterday, and allowed them to enter without saying anything.
When I went inside, I saw that there were several members of the clan inside, even though it was still quite early in the morning. Probably mercenaries belonging to the Silent Wolf. Then, do all these people eat, sleep, and live here? Well, that’s something I don’t know for sure.
At that moment, someone sitting at a table called Sean and Levy.
“Just in time!”
It was Gania. She had been waiting to guide the two of them, as Hector had said yesterday. When Gania saw that the children had arrived, she got up from her seat and went near the two of them.
“Hello. Gania.”
“Hello.”
At the polite greeting of the two, Gania smiled while patting the shoulders of the two.
Ugh, your hands are quite spicy. But she couldn’t say anything. It’s not like she hit her with bad intentions. Gania asked the two of them.
“Did you look around the city yesterday?”
Sean and Levy nodded. At those words, Gania let out a little drool, but she said it clearly, as if it didn’t matter.
“Well, today I will properly introduce you. Should I call it a guide, so to speak?”
Gania said so and she went in between the two of them and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. Then, Sean and Levy were dragged along by Gania, who immediately went outside.
Isn’t this woman too good at acting? Gania just casually said whether she knew what those two were thinking or not.
“I’d love to show you around the city right away, but there’s someone who wants to see you.”
“…The one you want to see?”
I came to Laes for the first time since I was born, and of course, there were no people I knew.
“Didn’t the captain tell you yesterday? The master of the city wants to see you because of your prowess in battle.”
The owner of the city. Come to think of it, he seemed to remember hearing those words from Hector. His name must have been Dios, and he had told the guards that he would introduce us to him.
But it seems that Dios is the owner of the city. He felt a little nervous at the thought that he was going to a bigger tycoon than he thought. Calm down Shawn. He’s the owner of the city, after all, he’s doing something similar to the village chief, right? Is not it?
He is actually himself, but it might be more difficult for Levy, who is very shy. But just because he was nervous, he couldn’t refuse a man who seemed to be the master of the city. And he would face various people as he went on adventures, but it was already difficult to do that.
Sean looked at Levy and nodded her head, and Levy nodded slowly as well. So the three headed to the mansion of Baron Dios, the owner of the city.
***
The mansion of Baron Dios was, in a word, luxurious.
Actually, it was natural to think that way. This was the first time Shawn and Levy had seen a nobleman’s house.
Another thing that surprised Levy was how many people there were in the mansion. There are so many people in the house where people live. Even though Levy knew in his head that these people were only for the baron and were his servants, it was very difficult to accept the truth.
The baron’s butler treated three of his guests with respect and said to them.
“The baron will come as soon as preparations are complete, let me show you to the drawing room.”
Since it’s a reception room, the chief started and ended the reception by serving a cup of tea at home.
The drawing room was definitely luxurious. After waiting for a while, the door opened and someone came in. Judging by the way the butler greeted him, he must have been Dios, the owner of the city.
Dios’s impression was completely different from what I thought. If he was an ordinary aristocrat, especially if he was called the master of the city, he would surely be greedy and arrogant, and it was natural for him to look down on commoners.
There was no impression of looking down on the two of them in his eyes, and rather, the warm smile made him look like a kind-hearted middle-aged man.
“Hello. Shaun and Levi, I heard a lot about you yesterday from Hector. I can tell you that he played a very big part in defeating Orki Magna.”
As Sean and Levy didn’t react much and just stared at him, Gania first showed the two of them.
“Thank you for inviting me like this. Baron Dios.”
“Oh, Miss Gania. Okay. Thank you for guiding us like this.”
They realized the greeting method, albeit roughly, and the two clumsily followed Gania’s words.
“Thank you for inviting me. Baron.”
“Thank you. Baron.”
“It’s okay. I certainly do not expect such strict etiquette from you guys.”
Saying that, Dios naturally sat down in the chair across from him. When he sat down, the butler poured tea for them as if he had been waiting.
Oh, I could feel that the color and scent were qualitatively different from the cheap tea the village chief drank. Sean took a sip of the tea. Well, it’s not as tasty as I thought. Levi took a sip as if it wasn’t her taste at all, and frowned at her.
It was obviously quite rude, but Dios said nothing. What he said was sincere, not empty. He gave up long ago on ruling over mercenaries and expecting too much from ordinary people.
Especially Hector, he didn’t see himself as anything more than a money giver, let alone an aristocrat. Dios glanced at the two so as not to be rude like an aristocrat.
A boy who can be said to be quite likable and still innocent, and a girl who is literally normal.
Well, it wasn’t that important. I didn’t call them for their looks. Dios told them.
“As I said before, I called it this because I wanted to say thank you for your efforts in battle.”
“Thank you. Still, if it weren’t for the mercenaries, we wouldn’t have been able to win.”
At the boy’s words, Dios nodded and said.
“I heard yesterday that he said he wanted to be an adventurer.”
“Yes. That’s right. That’s why I came here to Laes.”
Dios knew it was time to get down to business.
“Actually, I have something to say about that.”
“What can I say?”
“I don’t know if you know, but recently the number of monsters appearing in Raes is finally decreasing.”
That story was something I knew. It was a story that people who came to the village from Laes occasionally brought up. Shawn and Levy nodded at Dios’ words.
They both nodded as if they knew that, and Dios continued.
“And I came to a conclusion recently. There are no monsters in Laes anymore.”
“・・・・Yes?”
“The only remaining monster discovered after Orki Magna is one Mario. Of course, we are still searching, but in the past month, there is no trace of anything other than Orchi Magna and its monsters.”
With that said, Sean and Levy realized that this nobleman was not just exaggerating or joking, he was talking very seriously.
I came to Laes, the city of adventure, to hunt monsters, but now there are no monsters? From the first button of the plan the two made, it seemed to go wrong.
As the faces of the two darkened, Dios didn’t miss the moment and said, aiming for an opening.
“Of course, you can give as many adventurer qualifications as you want, but it is virtually impossible to continue adventurer activities here. So, can I make a suggestion?”
“····Proposal, huh?”
“What would it be like to become a mercenary? I already finished talking to Hector yesterday. If you wish, you will be able to enter the Silent Wolf immediately.”
It wasn’t just Sean and Levy that were surprised by that statement. Gania, who had been silently listening to them, was also surprised. Of course, I know that the skills of the two are beyond doubt, but in order to enter the Silent Wolf authentically, their qualifications must be tested.
But being able to enter right away if you agree, that made Hector, who insists on principles, realize how important both of them are.
But that kind of feeling couldn’t be important to Shawn and Levy. The two are confused. I came here to be an adventurer, but suddenly I am a mercenary? It was a very embarrassing proposal.
Dios kept trying to seize the opportunity.
“Of course it’s embarrassing, but after all, the work of an adventurer or a mercenary isn’t that different. Of course, mercenaries do a little more variety of work, and there is a high possibility of earning more money.”
Of course, they were a bit taken aback by the sudden information and suggestions, but their hearts had already been hardened a long time ago. What was important to the two was not a lot of work or a lot of money. The reason the two left the village was to hunt monsters.
Shaun looked at Levy. Of course, the two of them thought the same, but it had to be Levy to answer that. The subject of this adventure was her determination.
I wonder if Levy noticed Sean’s intentions, too. She met Sean’s eyes and looked at Dios and said in a firm tone without wavering.
“Thank you very much, but I will decline the offer. We have reasons to be adventurers.”
No, Dios let out a small pained sound. I was sure it would be possible, but their attitude was stubborn. I want to hold on to it more, but if I overdo it here and now, my heart will completely leave.
It’s okay. If you spend a little time in this city, you will understand his words fully. Dios calmed down for a moment and spoke calmly.
“I see what you mean. So let’s end today’s story here. And if you visit the association and meet the branch manager, you will be able to become an adventurer. Hector and I have a guarantee, so he will surely agree.”
At that, Sean and Levi thanked Dios.
“Thank you for today. Baron.”
“Thank you. Baron.”
“And if I have a small request, please consider the proposal I just made. And if you change your mind at any time, come back. You can go see Hector.”
“Yes. I will remember it.”
After Dios finished talking, he spoke to Gania.
“Guide me well to the association.”
“Yes. Baron.”
Dios sat still for a while in the living room left after Sean, Levy, and Gania left.
The butler cautiously asked Dios.
“Master. . . . Is it okay if I just send it?”
Dios didn’t say anything at the butler’s words and only gestured. At the command to go outside, the butler quietly left the drawing room.
The butler’s question just now could have been quite rude, but the generous Dios didn’t care. All his attention was on the two of them.
A swordsman with good skills and a magician who can’t even tell how good his skills are.
It wasn’t a good thing for the two of them to be adventurers.
A city where the monsters will finally disappear and peace will come.
The owner of Laes was lost in thought for a while and couldn’t move.
