CEO's Runaway Mate and Her Cubs

Chapter 566: Talking business

Luther had just finished a light breakfast when he received a call from the LY Corp. He had woken up late since he didn't have much to do. His finances were stabilising, the plan proceeding, and he could finally start the final part: taking away all his brother gained during the years Luther spent in prison.

He just needed that final idea about how to make a spectacle out of it. He planned to stay hidden until the very end and reveal the truth about who was antagonising them only when it would be too late to fight.

At that point, he would take away the company from his brother. And he would probably sell it to Lara at a ridiculous price. He didn't want it, in the end.

He could enjoy destroying it very much, but he felt bitter at the thought of running the company that had ruined his life. It was something new; he didn't expect to feel that way while in prison.

«Hello?» he said, expecting to hear from Lara. Even though, she could call him from her personal number.

«Hello, Mr Clayton. This is Secretary Jack. I'm calling on behalf of CEO Woods. He would like to meet with you... Ehm, we were expecting to hear from a secretary, not from you directly...»

«I don't have a secretary,» Luther pointed out. «And this is my private number.»

«Well, sorry... I can let you talk with Mr Woods directly then.»

«It's fine. Just set a date.»

«When are you free to meet? And what location would you prefer?»

«I'll visit LY Corp in the afternoon,» Luther decided. His business instinct told him to hurry up. At least to hear what was the matter.

If it was something uninteresting, he could always decline. But if it was useful... He had to hear it sooner so that he could adjust the rest.

«Oh, this afternoon... CEO Woods is busy. What about tomorrow morning? The afternoons are a little...»

«He can find a few minutes to tell me what's the matter. We're not going to negotiate today, either way. Warn him I'll be there when I finish some other business.»

That said, Luther ended the call. Pretending to be busy was useless with Nate, but he couldn't resist. That man had sent his secretary to call him; couldn't he do it by himself?

That was so disrespectful from his side. But, at least, he didn't send Lara. That would have been even worse, angering Luther to the point of ruining a good deal.

With that thought, Luther packed his things in an old briefcase and left for lunch. He would also visit the shops he used to like in search of a good business suit. He wanted to look dashing while finalising his revenge.

If Nate Woods offered to be part of it, who was Luther to say no? He would be an idiot to refuse help from the LY Corp. He just hoped Nate was ready for the backlash. Bad marketing is still marketing, Luther thought. For him, who had become a nobody, it could bring no damage to be known as a cruel and vengeful man.

To a stable business like the LY Corp, not so much. If anything went wrong, they could have a crisis. It would have been a pity to stop when they were expanding.

Luther toured the centre but didn't buy anything. He just took mental notes about the new trends. He admitted he needed a hairstylist to deal with his hair after twenty years of cutting it in front of a mirror. But, other than that, he could doll up pretty well.

He was going to show Melanie his change, then. To see if she changed her mind about him... After delivering Robert's portrait, there was such a small chance. He had closed every door of her heart, like that. She would remember her dead husband forever with that painting.

But he couldn't help. After being found out by Lara, he felt free to finish something that his old friend couldn't do. Maybe, Robert was actually cursing him from the other side.

«You deserve it, old man,» he scoffed. «You left her alone. Don't blame me for what I do here!»

But wolves mate for life. That's what Lara said: a mate is for an entire life, not even death can do them apart.

Luther walked to the headquarters of Nate's company and crossed the door with certainty.

«Hello, mister. Do you have an appointment?» the girl at the entrance asked.

She analysed him from head to toe, but she seemed to see more than his looks could give away. She was suspicious of him but dared not stop him.

Luther furrowed his brows... Could they feel that he was related to Lara and the twins? That would have been too much! How precise could wolves be at identifying family?

Gracelyn would use it to her advantage if only she knew. Or, most likely, she had already tried getting in like that. Luther couldn't imagine her not trying.

«I need to talk with Mr Woods,» Luther said.

«Do you have an appointment?» the girl said.

«I need to see him. He's expecting me,» the man said, knowing very well how Grace would act.

In fact, he was pleased to see the girl smiling politely and trying to send him away.

«You can leave us your contacts. CEO Woods is much busy, but we're sure he'll find some time for you. We will contact you with a date.»

Luther chuckled, while the girl widened her eyes in surprise. That man sure was strange.

«You weren't warned, were you? You should call Secretary Jack to ask him. Be quick, please. My time is expensive.»

Everyone's time was, but that of a man who just got out of prison cost way more than any of those youngsters could imagine. He was in a hurry to get his revenge; so that he could live his life in peace after.
